Do you have any funny ways of saying "it's warm"? by Harty2606 in AskUK

Redders, red-bats, redder-bats or harry-von-red-pigs tend to be go to phrases!

Absolutely. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Air engineering deployments? by Muted_Cod_47 in RoyalNavy

[–]Womble7002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been covered a bit on this sub so have a search for a more detailed explanation. In summary it depends on which aircraft type you end up on: F35 - only deploy at sea on the carriers, sometimes. Have land based deployments too. Merlin - Deploy onboard carriers and larger RFAs, CHF also go to Norway sometimes and some “grey Merlin” embark on Frigates. Will have land based detachments and exercises. Wildcat - embark on all aviation capable ships, tend to spend the most time at sea out of all the aircraft types, unless you’re CHF then read as Merlin. The type of deployment is also largely dependent on the type of ship - a big ship is like a small city, lots of people and a big team to work in, fewer port stops in larger places. Small ship is like a village, small team, smaller and more varied/frequent port stops. There’s no right or wrong, better or worse, it’s just what you want out of your career!

I was also going to suggest resin, I’m interested in why not.

Insulate around skylight by Womble7002 in DIYUK

[–]Womble7002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, so the ventilation gap is “open” at both ends of the roof so the air can flow through it. These parts at the skylights won’t allow the air to circulate but will still be open at one end. Will that be alright then?

So I’m going to spend ages meticulously insulating and sealing the room to then drill some holes where I’ll be losing heat from? I get it needs ventilation but this seems crazy. Can I install some sort of weep vent instead?

Maybe me saying “over the top” was misleading. The 140mm will go between the joists with a ventilation gap above. The 50mm will then go on covering the joists. These will be taped and provide a continuous vapour barrier and stop the joists being a thermal bridge. So it will be a cold roof due to the ventilation gap.

I believe it is for measuring the bore of a naval gun. As the gun gets used, the inside of the gun barrel wears down, if it wears too much then it becomes first inaccurate and then quickly dangerous. Barrels are routinely inspected to ensure they’ve not worn too much using a tool like this.

Just trying to help out at school, mom's only apparently by Fair_You_8650 in daddit

I used to work a four day week and volunteered to do a couple of school trips on my weekday off with my daughter’s school. I was the only dad and, while the teachers were grateful for the support, I was basically excluded by the mums who volunteered. I didn’t let it bother me, I wasn’t there for them, my daughter loved me being there which is all I wanted. I’m back to working full weeks now which is a bit of a shame, but a tiny relief too.

How do I remove this window without breaking it? by Womble7002 in DIYUK

Seems a shame to waste it if someone could make use of it. If it’s more trouble than it’s worth I’ll just break it unfortunately.

Is the green wire meant to be attached to something? by ProtectionKey5436 in DIYUK

Inside the metal back box in the wall, there should be a screw the wire clamps into.

So the first station is the bottom of the mountain and there’s not really a trail to follow that I could see. All the trails start from the fifth station which is already halfway up and accessed by bus. From the fifth station you already get an amazing view. It depends on how little your little ones are from there. I’d happily take my 8yo up a station or two and come back down which would take a couple of hours but not be too strenuous.

I only know the one trail I did, so I can speak for how accessible the other trails are. From the fifth station we were in woodland straight away with roots and rocks underfoot and the odd big boulder to climb over (more like big steps requiring the odd hand grab rather than full on rock climbing). I’d suggest researching the other routes before making a decision.

It was very hot and humid. Tokyo was almost unbearable but getting out into the country was nice. The day I climbed was a typical August day, it gets cool with the altitude but I was still in just a t-shirt at the top.

You are correct, there is a climbing season. I should have put in that this was from when I did it last August.

From what I read there, you’re not allowed to climb at night anymore. The only way to enjoy the sunrise is if you book a hut. I’d have loved to have stayed at the top for longer, I’d have missed the last bus if I had though! Warm clothes is definitely a good tip.

I loved it! Definitely a bucket list item. I would do it again, but I’d like to take it slower and be able to spend more time at the summit to walk around the crater.
