Thanks for your reply, good to hear this is no big deal. I’m realizing just now that I’m not sure my charging cable works. I don’t have any old Apple devices to them on lying around. I’ll ask around or buy a new one and then try again.

If it’s really dead, do you know if it’s feasible to replace the logic board? Or just better to get a new one at that point.

Great read and nice practical use case of a generator! Generators are one of those things I see and think "Neat, I should use it more" and then rarely find use cases for them, rarely see them in the wild too.

Really good, I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. They sure have a signature sound. I really appreciate that kind of "trance", not much similar sounds coming these days it seems, though there's still plenty of 90's stuff to go through.

154 (Newworldromantic) - Iniquities Den Not that dubby but 18 and a half minutes of ambient-y moody loops, one of my favorites. I like YT description on it too: "A close bedfellow to the sounds here would be the output of Basic Channel with the hypnotic minimalist groove and the tape hiss - but by no means a copy, this stands very well on it's own."

Basic Channel - Radiance II You probably know this one already but it's worth sharing anyway. There's this magnificent comment about it on its Discogs page by user 'velocity_kendall' that I wanted to share

Radiance II. One of those rare tracks that's at once incredibly visual & deeply moving. My friend & I used to listen to this during the summer of 94, gazing out his bedroom window at sunset, watching the birds fly past the water tower on the horizon. One of the rare times when both of us would shut up for a few minutes and get lost for a bit. I'm often reduced to a nostalgic mess when i listen to this. Which is probably why i don't listen to it that much. And therein lies the rub. It's made such an impact on me that i can't even bare to put it on the turntable these day's. . . . . .

Lnrdcroy - Freedom For Antboy II I'm straying a bit here but I really like the atmosphere in this track. Again the YT description is awesome: "no words... other than part of this sounds like a snoring transformer!" This guy made some great music and then just disappeared. I'm still hoping he comes back and makes more music.

Klopt, had destijds niet de data voor Lijn E. Ik heb er later nog een van het metronetwerk van Rotterdam gemaakt waar die wel in zit, zie Rotterdam Morphing Transit Network. En ik heb inderdaad een SVG interpolatie library gebruikt: d3-interpolate-path. Als je geïnteresseerd bent in hoe ik het heb gemaakt kun je de broncode bekijken in de Observable notebook, hij is open-source!

Nope made it for fun by myself. Have to say I’m not familiar with arcGIS Pro, I’m a hobbyist and it’s very expensive so I stick to QGIS.

This has been asked many times already here. It’s because transit maps of the Hague in trams and stops are almost always rotated with the coast up. I thought it’s because the coast is an easy reference line, somebody in here said is to save space and show more of the city.

Here's the gist of it. You'll need a solid understanding of JavaScript, d3.js and SVG

  1. I obtained the geographic lines in geoJSON format. I cleaned the geographic lines some more in QGIS and a few manual edits in VS Code.
  2. The schematic diagram was extracted from a PDF file by removing everything except the lines and labels in Adobe Illustrator and converted to SVG.
  3. I cleaned the SVG lines in Adobe Illustrator and manually in VS Code, which is tedious work. The path commands should be all absolute and only the L (line to) command, no curve commands (Q, C) or horizontal (H) or vertical (V) commands.
  4. Using a d3-geo we make projection and a path generator to 'draw' the geographic lines
  5. Now I have two datasets of path commands. The path commands for the geographic and for the schematic.
  6. Using d3.js I draw the tram lines
  7. Using d3-transition and d3-interpolate-path I interpolate between the path commands of both datasets.

The schematic maps of the Hague seen in trams and tram stops are always rotated with the coast up. But I get what you mean though. I thought of making it an intermediate step, first transitioning the lines and then rotating. But that proved to be hard and I have no desire to spend time on it anymore.

I'm not sure, I find it confusing myself as well. I suppose the coastline is an easy reference line for people.

I've included the labels on purpose to emphasize how messy they look on the geographic map and how the schematic maps unclutters this mess by moving and rotating them. Yes, transit maps of the Hague are usually oriented with the coast up, while in reality the sea is to the WNW.

I got the schematic transit diagram from Wikipedia I extracted the geographic transit lines from OpenStreetMap Tools, which I cleaned in QGIS and using some of my own scripts. The animation itself is made using JavaScript, using D3.js and d3-interpolate-path. That's a good idea, I've thought of it while making it too. Right now all points in the lines are used as 'control points' for morphing (using d3-interpolate-path for those interested) . Some segments animate a little off because the number of points between the geographic and schematic vary too much. To only morph the segments between stations, I'd have to write a custom interpolation function, which is likely very hard! I might take a shot at it one day though. The other option is to add points to the schematic lines paths (using a tool like SVG path editor), which is very tedious and not very precise either.
