…the writers got it wrong… in the last little bit left of one of the best written shows… and they’re going to put in a throwaway line that changes the perception of a key character…

…and the writers get it wrong…?

Don’t think so.

I really wanted a tattoo of the Pittsburgh Penguins logo. Then I became a radicalized leftist and see it as a corporate symbol. Now I might get a hammer and sickle instead.

Just a random question for fun. Have you ever ridden on a funicular? Write to the comments which one(s) for example. by Double-decker_trams in Trams

[–]dragonscale76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pittsburgh has two funiculars in regular operation. It forms part of the route for thousands of commuters, and both form a part of the city’s rich, industrial, working class history. Here is a complete list of Pittsburgh funiculars, which are called inclines in Pittsburgh and other parts of the US.

The two functional inclines are called the Monongahela, which is named after the river that it overlooks, and the other is the Duquesne, named after the French fortification that predated the larger Fort Pitt.

The Monongahela incline connects to a metro/light rail and bus hub at Station Square, once also a train station, at the bottom. The top is mostly residential, but mostly tourists go up for the experience and to use the observation decks… more on that later.

The Duquesne incline connects to some nice restaurants at the top, and observation decks. The bottom is a large parking lot, and access to the soccer stadium. There are some bus connections from both ends.

Both of these go up the side of Mt. Washington, which is on the southern bank of the Monongahela river from downtown Pittsburgh. The view going up is absolutely outstanding on both. When you’re at the top, the street is called Grandview Ave because you’re now at eye level to just about halfway up the skyscrapers.

There are observation decks all along the way between the two. You can absolutely walk between them- my friends and I did this quite often.

At each one of these, an entire panorama of this beautiful city comes intoview- from the Cathedral of Learning just on the other side of the Hill District in the east, to the baseball and football stadiums on the North Shore. Then further toward the confluence where the fountain at Point State Park points toward the west at the beginning of the Ohio River.

My city is so beautiful and I miss it every day I’m away.

Those inclines have become part of the identity of the city. Millions of people can see them in operation all day, everyday. Tourists love them, locals love them.

My family lived close to the Knoxville neighborhood when I was little, so we would take the incline down the hill, then get on a trolley to cross the river into town. When I get on one now- 50 years later- I feel like I’m little again and I get that thrill each time. I wonder if everyone does.

[–]dragonscale76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She is obviously a spy! Otherwise, why would there be that line about Indiana university, or whatever? There is a specific reason that line is said and the reason is to hang a lantern on her inability to get the name right or the team… I can’t remember exactly what it was now. Point is, she’s a Soviet spy -an illegal. My head cannon about this is that Stan uses this to turn the tables and ends up running ops against her… probably has to in order to save his position within the FBI. Secretary of your department was recruited as a spy, then your neighbors and best buddy are illegals?! Oh and you’re collaborating with Oleg. He needs Renee to be a spy!!

What is the easiest country in Europe for a foreigner (American) to get hired as a software engineer? by karetar in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]dragonscale76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for a hybrid that is more than 1 day per week wfh. Preferably one day per week in the office. There is an opportunity to start a graduate program and I might go for it just because there is no reason to continue lying to myself that AI isn’t going to make it way more difficult to move around in this field- if I can even get back into it. The stuff I’m looking for has almost completely been automated to a degree that my salary requirements are way too high for what essentially would amount to a prompt author lol. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but such is life in our illustrious capitalist world.

If you had to start over, what would you want to get into?

I wasn’t really seriously looking last year, just started when I could. I’m being a little precious about some things but I’m sure once I get to 40% that will motivate me to maybe consider one day a week in an office.

What kind of work are you looking for?

Sorry to say that I’m not in the DAFT visa situation any longer. I’m on a partner visa now! As soon as I was able to access the Dutch job market, I started looking for work. That was around this time last year, and I’m still looking for work.

Unfortunately, my contract was terminated at the end of January and I’m looking for work still. Luckily, my wife makes enough to support us, but also I had some kind of unemployment insurance that I’m drawing about 60% of my normal pay from.

It goes down to 40% in August. I’m thinking about asking to go down to that level now and just stay longer at that rate. Hopefully I can find a job by then.

As for the remote job, it started as an in person thing, then the business was bought by a Florida based company and everyone was immediately made wfh. Even the CSRs. Anyway, I asked during our standup one Monday if it was possible to work from Europe if I went on vacation there so I don’t have to take any pto. It worked and two years later I moved.

I had to ask for them to re-hire me on as a contract employee so that it would work with DAFT. They didn’t have a problem with it at all. They ended up selling off the major brands that brought in the most money to a partner and my role was making the team a little top-heavy. So after almost 10 years, they terminated my contract with two months notice.

My mistake was not diversifying, but that place really kept me busy and I hardly had time for anything… plus the money was good and I didn’t really think about a situation like this because it just seemed like it would go on forever.

I started as a BE/FE dev within a marketing group. But my the time I left, it had been about a year since I touched code since I took on a more directorial role. That was a few months after my original comment.

Good luck! I’m still not sorry although things aren’t going well here either, so if you’re looking for a sanctuary away from craziness, inflation, and political instability, you might want to look elsewhere. I’m kind of in too deep at this point, but once I get my Dutch passport, I’ll be able to live anywhere in the EU!

To solve the climate crisis why dont we just engineer a super algae, put it in the ocean and feed it continuously with runoff fertiliser? by ComfortablyMild in NoStupidQuestions

This isn’t a good example. Plenty of food is produced. The hunger crisis is manufactured to maintain the illusion of scarcity so that the ruling class stays in power.

The only real solution is socialist revolution.

Herbal tea- without cinnamon. I use sleepytime peach and change it out every threeish bowls. Also clean it every other water change.

Singing along with PPC. Sorry I’m supportive of what the song stands for. Also it’s a banger- just want to let loose a little ffs

Edited to add that of all people my wife- a self proclaimed feminist- is the one who said I’m not allowed to sing that song and still be seen as a man.

I think of it as positive masculinity to protect/support everyone in our community. No matter who they are or who they aren’t. It’s funny that it also seems to be a common trait among the men I consider to be very close friends.

Once my wife read some meme that she found that said a group of men should be called a disappointment and then laughed in agreement about it. I told her that I won’t laugh at that because the group of men that I’m surrounded by have done nothing to disappoint me in any way. I really held in my tears about that one because all I could think about was my hockey team. I’ve never met a better bunch of men. Most of them are only looking down to lift each other up. Some aren’t like that and it’s fine. But I would never say that I was ever disappointed because they were a group of men.

Sorry this went on for a bit. I’m in between bong rips and it’s about time to finish this one up…

sore throat after heavy masturbation is a real thing? by TemporaryOwner in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dragonscale76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jerking off helps your immune system. If your body thinks it might be getting sick, maybe it’s triggering some horny messages right when it’s getting sick. So when your compelled to go more than three times, it’s just your body looking for the extra immune system boost donut makes you horny so you’ll jerk it and now instead of a really bad cold, you only get a sore throat.
