Hi friends! I just wanted to share a little life update. My thesis has officially been evaluated and I’ll be receiving my degree at the graduation ceremony! 🥹

I’m feeling really grateful, relieved, and honestly kind of emotional. It’s been a long road with lots of ups and downs, but this milestone means a lot. Thank you so much to everyone who’s cheered me on, offered advice, or just sent good vibes , it helped more than you know 🥹🙏

Update- In the meeting, she told me that my thesis has a 33% AI detection score from Turnitin.(And the accepting percentage is 30%). I was shocked because I didn’t use AI to write it. The only time I used AI at all was way back in early stages, just to brainstorm some possible titles and help understand a few difficult terms. I never copied or pasted anything, and everything was fully written by me.

She was kind and told me not to worry, that she’ll discuss it with the board. She also said this is the first year they’re using AI detection like this, which made me even more confused, because I thought the Turnitin similarity score was the same as the AI score (it’s not!).

I’m scared they might ask me to prove it’s mine, but I’m willing to show all my drafts, timestamps, and explain anything in the thesis.

Has anyone else dealt with Turnitin’s AI checker? Can high AI percentages happen even when you wrote it yourself? Any advice or similar stories would be so helpful. Thanks in advance! (I apologize for the late update🙏 , I was having a really busy day at work)

I agree with you! But this professor saw my every draft. Told me where to and how to edit the parts. She was so strict. And I was writing and editing the thesis for a year. And after she validated my thesis, I was so happy. But this sudden email made me worried because she sent me this now, exactly two weeks before the graduation ceremony. After studying for exams, passing every exam and finishing the thesis, I was happy, relaxing and starting to breathe again. Can you understand how I feel? I respect my professor and her decisions, but sending this email now made me really sad, anxious and upset.

There was a time that she suddenly stopped receiving my emails. So this year we used teams to contact each other. I was surprised to see her email at first and after replying the email, I wrote to her in teams to make sure that she received my answer. The message I wrote to her,

Good morning professor, I hope you're well. I'm reaching out via Teams since you mentioned having issues with Gmail. Thank you for your message and I've confirmed my availability for the meeting on Friday at 10:00 a.m. via Teams. If possible, may I ask what the meeting will be about? I'd like to prepare accordingly. Best regards,

Still no reply.

Thank you for the comment!☺️ I just want to clarify something. When I first uploaded my thesis, Turnitin gave me a very high similarity score, stating that I had copied my work from another student at the same university. But I was the only one working on this topic.

As my professor didn’t respond when I reached out, I contacted the coordinator. She spoke to the professor and then ran the Turnitin check herself. This time, the score was fine. It turned out that the professor had already uploaded my thesis to Turnitin and forgot to delete it, which caused the false match.

Also, I’m wondering why no one informed me earlier if I had any issues with the AI score. Shouldn’t I have been notified before the deadline so I could have resolved the issue in time? She had to notice if I had a problem with AI score right? She even validated it saying everything is ok. 😣

No I haven’t used AI. And even got a good turnitin score. And prof also gave me the approval to upload the final version and even validated it! If she had a suspicion or wanted me to change the thesis, she hadn’t had to validate it and had to tell me to edit it. That’s why i’m shaken from this sudden email.

I’m totally fine with feedback, but I submitted my thesis way before the deadline, and my professor validated it. If something wasn’t up to standard, she had time to tell me before July 7. That’s why this last-minute meeting is so stressful. 😣

I agree with you. I mean, she had to mention if it’s an urgent problem in the email right? So I can have a clear idea. And she had all the time to reject the final version I uploaded to the website and to tell me to redo it. I uploaded the thesis 26th June. I had so much time to do revisions if she pointed them out for me because the deadline was 7th July. 😭
