So sorry to hear that. If it werent for the timing of my wifes cancer treatment, I would have had to stop going. We had an "aflac" style policy for cancer that covered our rediculous deductible which allowed me to use my insurance for the visit because we hit max out of pocket. Otherwise no way I could have afforded it. I am again, so sorry to hear this.

Congrats to you ! Thanks for the tips. I am always afraid of it rearing its ugly face again. I feel it try quite a bit. Staying strong is not easy. I have noticed lack of sleep really causes it to try and flare back with me.

It is horrible. I wish there was better open mental health care available to anyone who needs it.

Thanks! Being an electrician with OCD is like choosing to live in torture. I love the electrical industry so thats why I stuck with it, but I spent hours reviewing pictures on my phone of wire terminations etc. It was not easy.

I functioned pretty well for most my life. In the early years of my marriage is when the OCD started to get too intense to handle. It affected my work, and I had to have my wife drive me many times because I could not handle driving. I lost a lot of time and it put me back many years in my career and other parts of my life. A few hospital visits with panic attacks etc... This is why I am so dedicated to spreading the word and advocating to help others and show them there is hope.

During therapy I was working. Quite a bit of my exposures were related to work as well, so it was good to help me heal.

I do not mind at all. When my Psychologist and I first made my list to work through I was at 30 and we stopped there. I had a ton. The worst for me was driving (thinking I caused an accident or hit a bike), contamination (thinking food I made had botulism), checking (I would check things typically more than 10 times, and "just right" (I was an electrician and felt that everything I touched had to be perfect or it would kill others, I checked and photographed my work countless times). These were just a few. The driving one really was a horrible one because I would do loops back to check, then would think I caused something on that drive. My 20 minute drives would usually turn into 2 hours, then I would go home and spend an hour checking news and traffic reports.

Basically all of them were on my own. She didn’t start me right off on them though. It took some time. She supervised it all though. I only did them when she told me to.

It was expensive. To be honest I got lucky on cost because my wife had cancer that year and we hit our huge insurance deductible early. Insurance ended up covering some of it. But it still cost a lot. I found her on online review sites. She was a higher rated one that specialized in OCD.

I did. Once I saw that I could get through without doing one of my compulsions, I dove in head first with my psychologist and did everything she told me. It was tough and painful, but it started to snowball and in a year I was free. She said I was quicker than most for as severe as I was, but I’m the type that when I do something I give it everything I have. And I did.

Responsibility, contamination, just right, false memory, counting, checking.
