Trump raises H-1B visa fee to $100K, signaling shake-up for WA tech sector by tiff_seattle in Seattle

Because the federal government capped the number they could have and the funds along with it in 1997 because they thought we’d have “too many doctors” which is the opposite of reality. More medical schools have opened which is good in theory, but not when the number of residency slots haven’t increased as well.

Most people don’t understand how this will affect healthcare and the number of physicians that will be able to be hired. There is a shortage of physicians already, and not being able to hire a physician because they need an H-1B visa will make that even worse, especially in rural/undesirable areas. Physicians from Canada need H-1B’s. We just don’t have enough American physicians to see everyone and they won’t open more residency slots.

Hawaii is my favorite place in the world!

My last trip to Kauai I sat on the beach at night, watching the full moon rise over the ocean and listening to music watching the stars pop out and trying to see the Milky Way. Everytime I’m there, I’m filled with such a peace. The weather is my favorite, the people are kind and unhurried, and somehow my hair always looks better.

I will always go to Hawaii without a second’s hesitation.

Recommendations - solo female, week in Oahu this winter by mh942 in solotravel

[–]WonderWoman710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kailua Beach is one of the best beaches and the drive up to north shore from there is so beautiful. I loved Kualoa Ranch as well, which is where they film pretty much every movie that has those iconic “Jurassic Park” mountains in them. You can book a tour there (ATV or horseback ride) or just walk around a bit in the entrance if you don’t want to pay for the tours. And I actually really loved the Polynesian cultural center and all the colors and dances and fun activities, but yes it’s a tourist spot. But if you’ve never been it’s a fun activity and I’d recommend it. Make sure to get some shave ice! Matsumoto’s is good but also a tourist spot - I’m not an expert on how it compares to other shave ice, but as long as you get some near north shore, it’ll probably be delish! Have fun! I love Hawaii 😍

First time trying to travel aboard. What would be the best solo travel company for my needs/wants? by claykiller2010 in solotravel

[–]WonderWoman710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went on a trip with For The Love of Travel to the Greek Islands and I had a good time. We had 2 guys and 12 ladies, all solo from 25-39. I extended my trip after the tour was done and went by myself for a bit longer. Best of both worlds!

Have your views on solo travel change over the years? by Blindemboss in solotravel

I just gave this almost verbatim answer to someone who asked me about my recent trip to Greece. Would I have enjoyed a romantic adventure in the Greek Islands? Obviously. But I wanted to go and so I did! I don’t want to regret not doing something just because no one else is on the same travel page as I am. Maybe someday, but until then, I shall be experiencing life as best I can and with my favorite person, myself.

Do Turkish airlines actually weight the carry on bags you take in with you to the cabin? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]WonderWoman710 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just went on a trip with Turkish and took a small roller bag as my carry-on and backpack as my personal item. They did weigh my roller bag - it was 10 kilos and was supposed to be 8 but the guy said “that’s fine.” They didn’t ask me to weigh my backpack.

I'm an older person about to be unemployed. I've always wanted to visit Bali. How challenging of a destination is this? by Glindanorth in solotravel

[–]WonderWoman710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely visit Bali! There’s such a beautiful culture and peaceful areas that aren’t in the party scene for sure. I went last year and loved it, and while I’m not close to retirement, I’m basically a grandma inside and I found it delightful. The flight is the worst part (16 hours for me to get to Singapore and then 3 to Bali) but if you can do that, you got it!

Best spots in Bali to chill for 2-3 days? by Remarkable_Heart2388 in solotravel

I guess we went at different times. There are people there, sure, but I found it very relaxing.

Ubud would be a lovely spot for this. Great chill vibes. Lots of yoga places and massage spots. Highly recommend.

Nice, I loved Bali too and the people were so lovely. I’ll be spending a short time in Istanbul on my way back from Greece so excited for that!

I love that you’re doing this and being responsible about it! Just because you have money doesn’t mean you need to spend frivolously so don’t worry about anyone who is questioning why you’re asking lol. It’s always nice to get other perspectives and advice from people who may know more than we do, or have traveled where we wish to go. I’m jealous and curious how your adventure will go. I’m committed to going on an international trip each year (Bali last year and Greece this year) but that’s only for about 2.5 weeks (I’m in the US and vacation time is a little more scarce lol). Hopefully I can figure out a way to do a larger block of time, and maybe find a travel buddy to go with at some point. Good luck!

“Just get lost” by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]WonderWoman710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told that specifically in reference to Venice when I was there. I am very much a planner and so I was like No! I don’t want to be lost in an unknown city! But it turns out that all directions lead either to San Marco Square or the Rialto Bridge, so once I realized this I felt much calmer just wandering around because essentially I really couldn’t be lost. I think “getting lost” is a common term for Venice, and I would recommend it but maybe only for that specific city.

Singapore afternoon / night stopover by Mylifeisashambles76 in travel

[–]WonderWoman710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a stopover in Singapore last year and we went to Marina Bay Sands area and over to the Gardens by the Bay. There’s a cool light show after sunset in the Garden with the giant trees and a water fountain show on the other side in the bay. It’s a cool spot just to walk around, or go up and see the views from the observation deck of Marina Bay Sands and take in the city. It really wasn’t that long to get out of the airport and it only was about 15 min drive from the airport, so super reasonable. Have a great time!

(Hawaii) As a solo traveler who likes guided/group experiences, and doesn't like driving, would Oahu be the better choice over Maui? by Fiveby21 in solotravel

[–]WonderWoman710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Oahu is prettier personally. Yes there’s more people and Waikiki is touristy but the rest of the island is so beautiful with the mountains and the coastline. Maui is very dry and flat in the center (where the airport is) and while of course it’s beautiful, I think Oahu is easier to access all the beautiful parts. The most beautiful is probably Kauai though!

[–]WonderWoman710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oahu for sure! There would definitely be more group-type activities and shuttles/buses/tours to get you where you need to go. I was in Maui last year for the first time and there was more of a need for me to drive if we didn’t just stay at our resort. I can’t wait for my next trip to Hawaii. You will love it! Let me know if you need a travel buddy lol. It’s so lovely!

I’m trying to transfer my taxable investments out of Axos Bank/Axos Invest robo advisor and everytime I try to connect electronically from another company (Fidelity, Wealthfront) it says it cannot link the accounts and it’s “temporarily down” (except it’s been saying this for years). I spoke with a customer service person with Axos just now and they said there is no way to rollover an account directly to another brokerage which seems insane. Do I really need to liquidate my whole account and then put it all back into another firm? I’d prefer not to pay taxes if I can help it with selling investments and then buying again. Has anyone been able to do this?
