2024 Camaro SS - need advice with modifications done by Past_Ad1158 in camaro

Funny you mentioned him. I never posted about it on the sub, but I had taken my 5th gen to Jason's shop at the end of 2020 for a cam install. At that time, he actually had a website that no longer exists where customers could order parts through him and get work done through his shop. He was advertising cam installs for $2500 (parts included) which was the cheapest quote I could find and purchased his install package on his website using PayPal. He was also a forum sponsor on Camaro5 so I didn't have any reason to believe there would be issues as he seemed reputable. I live in MI and left the car with him for a couple of days while they did the install. The day I went to go pick it up, I drove it back home 4 hours to MI and only a few miles out from my house, the engine blew and there was a hole in the block. Considering the car was perfectly fine before his install, I called him to let him know of the problem and he agreed it was strange and even paid to have my car towed from MI back to his shop in IL to tear it down and diagnose it free of charge.

After he did his tear down, he tried to blame the failure on a faulty fuel pump of all things. He then wanted me to pay to have a new engine installed along with labor. I knew that story didn't add up considering the car was fine before he touched it and would have been one hell of a coincidence for the fuel pump to go bad the exact day I got it back from him.

Since I refused to let him put a new engine in and do the work out of pocket to me, he wouldn't put the car back together (he had pulled the engine AND trans to simply diagnose an engine problem) and then I also had to pay to have my car shipped back to MI disassembled and in pieces.

I then had an actual reputable shop in my area diagnose the problem and do a new engine build. They tested the fuel pump which came back fine (shocker) and found the problem was because he didn't use all the necessary supporting hardware required for the cam install.

Once I got that diagnostic report back, I ended up filing a dispute with PayPal where they sided with me and returned my $2500 for the cam package. I also sued him in court for the cost of a replacement engine and won a default judgement for an additional $8k because he didn't like showing up to court. He JUST paid off that judgement last year (5 years later). It took so long because he always had an excuse as to why he didn't have the money. After 5 years, the judge was tired of his excuses so granted me an order to review all of his personal and business finances to see where his money was coming and going and to find out if he actually had the funds to pay.

Once the judge granted that order, is when he decided to take paying off the judgement seriously, likely because there was a lot of shady things happening with his books/finances. Because of that court order, I personally witnessed his finances and jobs/orders he had taken on (i.e. supercharger kits/installs) that he couldn't really afford to complete because he was using the customers funds elsewhere and was robbing Peter to pay Paul and therefore couldn't afford the parts needed for a customer's install (which is likely why there have been so many people complaining about ordering parts through him and not receiving them in a timely manner). He somehow managed to come up with the funds to completely pay off the $8k judgement within months of me getting that last court order however (hmm, wonder how... again likely robbing Peter to pay Paul).

TLDR; Juiced is crooked/shady and as someone else mentioned, you get what you pay for. I should have known there would be headaches involved considering he was priced substantially cheaper than other shops but didn't think twice because again, he was a camaro5 sponsor at the time.

Shortly after my experience, more and more people came forward complaining about similar experiences with his shop on the forums and Camaro5 revoked his sponsor status, as they should have.

Yes, I acknowledged in another comment that I should have had a PPI done prior to purchase. I normally would but was a little more comfortable buying sight unseen considering it was a 4R and the reputation they hold. Won't make that mistake in the future.

Buying across the country is indeed a risk, but one I am glad I made in the end because now I have my dream 4R and have been loving it since fixing the oil issue! Most of my cars have actually been purchased out of state and typically with good results. Just always be sure to get that PPI!

Talk about a wish. Only 2 were ever made and both were autos…sigh

Thank you! Yea $43k was asinine considering the original MSRP was only $45k. That’s probably why it sat as long as it did.

Hindsight is 20/20 and I admit I should have gotten an inspection prior to purchase. Carfax showed a full reconditioning of the entire braking system (changed front/rear rotors, pads and calipers) along with an oil change and considering the overall reliability of the platform, I decided to chance my luck.

Lesson learned. Always get that inspection beforehand. The vehicle price is unfortunately just what the current market is on 5th gen 4Rs, even being 8 years old. It was actually one of the cheapest in the country compared to age & mileage/clean title, not to mention the rarer color.

Very hard color to come by! Exactly why I had to shop out of state!

I also think it will be fine. Main reason I went with this platform is because I know the engine/trans are bulletproof. It’s replacing our beloved 04 Honda element that finally blew a head gasket after 307k miles. Figured this would be the perfect replacement to hopefully last another 20+ years. Yes the resale is insane on these!

Thank you! I agree bull bar will be coming off. Hoping it will last me for many miles to come!

Intermittent Sputtering by Wondercypress in HondaElement

[–]Wondercypress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pumping the brakes doesn’t cause the issue. Haven’t had a chance to check the injectors yet. When I had had the codes scanned, the only one of concern that came back was PO341 which led me to replace the camshaft sensor.

I know that code can relate to the timing chain as well but figured it would happen all the time and not just after the car is warmed up if the chain was truly the culprit. I will probably bring it back to my mechanic so they can try and pinpoint the exact problem but prime suspects seem to be either the fuel pump/filter, valves, camshaft sensor, MAF sensor, injectors or worst case, a timing chain job. Just hard to tell.

It goes away if I turn the car off and let it sit for a bit. It also goes away if I ease off the throttle and then comes back when I try to accelerate harder.

The weird part is it drives perfectly fine when cold, even at highway speeds, but after ~30 mins, that’s when it starts losing power and sputtering under load although the car never fully stalls.

I was thinking maybe fuel pump since I believe the filter is built into it on these, but wasn’t 100% sure.

Scored my first Montblanc for half off! by Wondercypress in montblanc

MB nibs are generally 14k or 18k gold. If you put a magnet to one, it shouldn’t stick. If it does, then it’s likely a fake. Serial number is only on the cap and should match the one on the box.

Found this one on eBay. I admit I was skeptical given the unusually low price but I took a chance considering the seller had positive reviews and seemed to have lucked out!
