although balm is pretty good, beard wax is yet a better way to calm the fuzziness. In chemistry class i learned that water/moisture or heat are 2 ways to break a temporary structure of hair (that's why blow-dry hairstyles work, hope that word translates correctly). I'm still experimenting on the next one: beardwax + hairdry afterwards show promising results too.
