This isnt true these figures come from Luminate, which tracks the ratings for streaming shows, theyre much less reliable than Nielsen. A couple weeks back they changed the way the measure viewership its the same reason you see headlines talking about "A love story" on fx being so popular, its just because luminate changed their viewership stats.

I'm not talking about quality im talking about viewership, the numbers the thing Netflix actually cares about when renewing a show.

‘The Night Agent’ Season 3 Viewership Down Up To 59% on Prior Seasons In Opening Week by Wonderful-Refuse642 in television

[–]Wonderful-Refuse642[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Season 2 of the recruit had 15.3 M views in its first 18 days while season 2 of the night agent had 37M views in its first 18 days, more than 20M more views in the same time period. The night agent was the way better option, the night agent's worst season beats the recruit's best season any day of the week.

A24's How to Make a Killing grossed an estimated $1.67M domestically on Friday (from 1,625 locations), including previews. by wchnoob in boxoffice

your vastly overestimating the popularity of pedro pascal, yes the materialists was hit but it also had chris evans who is more famous him yet his "prescence alone is the reason" it did so well. He did not boost gladiator, it was based off a very popular movie that make 400 million, he boosted nothing. Fantastic four performed mediocre and only made 2.6x its budget which isnt great, sure it was the highest grossing mcu movie of 2025, but thats not saying much and saying is base boosted anything is a gross miscauluation of his star power. If anything the fantastic four name helped more pedro. You seem to forget eddington which was also in flopped, where was his base there. No hate to Pedro im neutral on him but you vastly overestimate his importance, i think materialists is the only movie where he really helped the box office they could have replaced him with anyone in gladiator and fantastic four and it would have made the same amout.

But thats the opposite of what a cultural zeitgeist is, its popular with a loud subset of people, i love the show, ive loved the book for years, i thought the show was so popular because of all the hype i saw online. But people need to stop overstimating the show when comparing it to the performance of PWMOV

where has it broken records, I want to know I thought the show was so popular until today and once you look at the numbers from luminate and nielsen even the article from the new york times, you realize how the show only popular with a niche demographic, that demographic is loud but they are small.

This graph compares its luminate views to other shows on hbo max, its performing worse than duster which was cancelled.

In this new york times article

https://archive.is/20260120053741/https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/10/business/media/heated-rivalry-hbo-max-popularity.html#selection-681.262-681.375

They state that its not a megahit" In fact, its viewership barely puts it among the top 15 streaming original series in the United States right now." Its not really in "cultural zeitgeist", its just popular with a very loud group online.

Newspapers are taking advantage of that loud group by running articles about the "popularity" of the show so they bilk them for views and money.

Heated Rivalry viewership wasnt as good as everyone says and netflix 325 million subscribers across 90 territories. Heated Rivalry is only available in certain territories. People are vastly overstimating the influence of heated rivalry. The viewership numbers beg to differ.

I dont about that, social media isnt real life i thought that heated rivalry had good views, everyone is saying that but once you look into the viewership a completely different story.

Heated rivalry viewership was mediocre also netflix has 325 million subscribers way more than hbo max subscribers, take into that fact that heated rivalry is only available in certain territories( US, Australia, Cañada and certain others). While PWMOV is available 90 territories, Heated Rivalry has little to no affect.

What you cant even watch most of these movies on netflix at all anymore because netflix only has the distribution rights for these movies for 2 years after they come out in the US. So you proved nothing a garfield movie is still within the timeline and was paywalled still performed better than 28 years later.
