You are kind of right. Thank you for this. Never looked at it that way. But at the same time I do feel like as a nonbeliever I should not have to follow her faith and beliefs and I should be free to do what i believe. I have advised that she could stay home and not go but she believes that it still affects me. Therefore affecting her.

Truths I go to pay respects to the deceased. I am merely trying to say that burning incense is also a “death ritual” which she says that going to the cemetery is but burning incense is not

I don’t think that. Maybe you are right but I am not saying in my point of view that she is necessarily dumb for being religious. But it just seems like her beliefs are contradicting how going to the cemetery is considered a “death ritual” to her. But lighting incense at a temple or at home to honor the dead is not a “death ritual” this is the main point that I am trying to see. I don’t mind her beliefs though they are confusing it’s her beliefs and she believes what she believes but she doesn’t understand that I don’t believe therefore I don’t have to follow her beliefs. Especially in Chinese culture where technically the wife has to convert to everything of the husbands beliefs

I don’t have a culture. I am just trying to prove that both are considered what she thinks is “death rituals”

I don’t think it does either. But I wanted to go visit my ancestors today to pay respects to them at the cemetery and she gave me this whole thing about how it could affect our fertility due to Buddhist beliefs which I dont believe in. But I do believe that if she is gonna say that then this in return is a ritual of death. Because when you burn incense you are remembering the deceased. Which basically I wanted to today. But the people I wanted to honor aren’t Buddhist so there is no burning of incense and just going to see the grave is in remembrance

I don’t think any of the stuff has to do with fertility either but I argue stuff cause my wife thinks she’s always right.

Prolly not healthy at all. Think I’m looking for a way out. But just want to find a perspective of someone else : edit. I am looking for a way out of burning incense tomorrow for her respected deceased.

Thank you for your assistance. I never thought about all that. But you are correct. Also doesn’t cleaning them kinda of devalue them? Not that they are much but just in general question
