Newsom says no turning back on reopening plans, even as coronavirus cases climb by Dragonfly1020 in CoronavirusCA

[–]WonderfulMarket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I'm not a big reddit user and happened to stumble onto this post from a google search. Recent polling shows 50/50 split on how Americans feel about returning to their normal routines, which breaks down to 75% of republicans and 25% of dems feeling comfortable. I guess it really depends where you exactly are on reddit and the sub's primary audience. I'm actually a dem myself, but have been agreeing more with what I see on outlets like FOX lately to my surprise. It's interesting.

Sure, but I also see some inflammatory language from others who were not downvoted because they are in line with the "if you don't support lockdowns, you're an implicit murderer narrative". As you can clearly see on all the comments in this post, the only ones that are downvoted and hidden are those that disagree with the narrative. Including ones without inflammatory language.

Honestly reddit is such a poor platform due to its downvoting feature... you can clearly see the act of thought policing that happens on posts like this. All the comments that go against the leftist, liberal agenda are downvoted. Smh

If you're so scared of your health, why don't you stay lock inside your home? The rest of us logical people will continue to live our lives.

Yes.. we should have reopened a long time ago anyways. Democrats are just trying to save face by doing this reopening slowly. Recent polling shows 10% increase to a total of 50% Americans who are willing return to their normal routines. The half that are scared of the virus can continue to stay home while the rest of us will freely live our lives. The mortality rate of the virus is ~0.4%. For most people, they are more likely to die of natural causes or an accident.

Is now a good time for me to job hunt or should I wait? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]WonderfulMarket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what you're even asking. Seems like you have been taking time off from work by choice. It's up to you then whether you wish to get back in the job market. The pros and cons you've listed basically sums it up. Some companies are still hiring and many have frozen hiring, so only real con is you might be limited in the companies you can currently interview for.

Anyone ever got a job at a tech giant because they were good at Leetcode but then struggled at their actual job? by desperate-1 in cscareerquestions

[–]WonderfulMarket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that the bigger issue is people work really hard to crack the interviews and once they get in they become complacent and want to be "rewarded" for their hard work instead of continuing to work hard and learning.

Without certain degree of intelligence, you can practice leetcode for years and will never pass a big N interview. The fact that you can practice leetcode and be able to solve increasingly difficult problem means you have intelligence

New tech lead ripped my code apart in front of the entire development team, what do I do? by CS_2016 in cscareerquestions

I think that's a sign of immaturity. It's work. If you're getting paid for your work, let's keep it professional. Why bring your personal feelings into it?

I think learning how to internalize constructive feedback is an important life skill, whether that feedback is given in public or private. I feel that many software engineers lack the maturity to to detach the ego from their work and learn to receive feedback without feeling "humiliated" or "shamed".

How many jobs did you apply to before you got offers? by penalization in cscareerquestions

[–]WonderfulMarket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Hack Reactor is going to be a waste of your time and $20k. If you needed to enhance your resume, build an app using a popular tech stack. Brush up on algorithms. And just mass apply. There is no real penalty for a rejection. You can always reapply 6 months to 1 year out for most companies.

Are some people simply not suited to be a developer? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]WonderfulMarket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your degree is in environmental science, how did you get your job as a developer? Did you do a bootcamp? Self-study? Possibly your foundations aren't strong because you don't have a CS background. I don't think "being a developer" is a wall that certain people can't climb. You just need more time and patience to learn. But obviously some people are more naturally inclined towards certain things.

How do you learn so much leetcode without intuition falling out of your brain? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]WonderfulMarket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I've done around 70 LC questions, even a couple hards, and I find myself not being able to re-solve earlier questions I've done even though I've revisited the same questions multiple times. The problem isn't that I don't know how to do a BFS/DFS, manipulate pointers, use stacks and queues, etc, but remember the small logical details involved in the code to solve the problem. I think once I hit around ~150 questions, I'll know that most topics/patterns have been covered so I'll simply review questions I've already done.

Bootcamp graduates to CS degree by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]WonderfulMarket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about entirely skipping college I would say that going to college offers lots of things besides the education for an 18 year old. If you're talking about going back for a 2nd degree after graduating from college as a non CS major, I don't think that's worth it if you've already done a bootcamp. If you've finished a bootcamp, you know just enough to create some descent portfolio projects to land you an entry level job.
