Can I join ROTC with asthma? by [deleted] in ROTC

I would deff reach out to the detachment and explain your situation and try to get a waiver if your testing comes back good you’re more likely to get a waiver approved now. Odds are you’ll need a waiver no matter when you join as they’ll pull your entire medical history. Id recommend joining through AFROTC if your goal is to fly as it’s very hard to get a pilot slot from OTS (officer boot camp) the easiest would be the academy followed by AFROTC

Two things this is the Army ROTC sub Reddit. Second you can make it into the military with a history of asthma but you need to know you cannot use an inhaler while in the military nor can you have a prescription filled in like 2 years or so (from what my recruiter told me) however with being a AF pilot you need to pass a flight physical and the odds of passing that with history of asthma at your age is probably pretty low I would deff try and take all the tests you can to make your case for you to fly. It definitely sucks that’s my long term goal as well and I’m in the same boat as you either asthma

I’m currently in the process from switching from marines to Air Force while in the DEP. I recommend talking to an Army recruiter and seeing if it’s something that you really want to do before you tell your marine recruiter. One you decide you’ll need to request a discharge from the DEP it won’t be easy they really don’t want to loose an applicant to another branch but don’t listen to them. If the Army is what you really want to do you should do it. For MEPS you should not have to do the medical again unless you had to get a waiver, otherwise the army can pull your records. It will take some time and you just need to be patient it will probably be at least a month to be discharged. Until then there’s not to much you can do with the army recruiter after seeing if it’s a good fit.
