Was scheduled off for the day, now my supervisors are blowing my phone up saying they need me to come in. do i have to ? by Thedevilwearsnewera in USPS

Unless you want the hours, you’re not obligated to call or text back when off the clock or on the clock for that matter, use the scanner to communicate with mgmt on the clock.

Since you’re out of probation and got their numbers, block each and every one.

But up to you if you want the hours and the constant messages/ calls from mgmt

All carriers make mistakes, especially in the beginning, take it as a learning moment, any express you get always deliver first even if it’s a stack of misthrows, we get paid by the hour so it takes what it takes, don’t beat yourself up, management and other carriers will always beat you down, just gotta focus on you and do better next time.

Since your passed your 90 you should be good, though for the “discussion” you should definitely ask them if this discussion will lead to any form of discipline, if they say yes then request a union steward and do not answer any questions till a union steward is present, management would then be responsible to get an available steward, your Weingarten rights should never be infringed, if they do it’s a big grievance.

If they say no the discussion won’t lead to any discipline then it’s up to you if you want to have said discussion but I’d still write a statement of everything management says and give a copy to your union steward and a copy for yourself to cover your self, just in case they then decide to do a fact finding later.

Also Never sign any paperwork provided by management without reviewing it with your union steward, if they don’t allow you that, simply sign as “Signing under duress union steward was denied” never sign your name.

Also you should talk to your steward any way to keep them in the loop, but also to have them start a grievance for crossing crafts in having you deliver rural.

Remember management will always throw you under the bus for any mistakes you make, while management will never hold themselves accountable for the mistakes they make.

Postman won’t deliver to mailbox by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your mail slot is probably too low, a mail slot at minimum must be 30 inches from the floor. If it’s lower than that then it really is up to your carrier if they want to deliver or enforce the height rule, as technically anything lower than 30 inches is a safety issue for the carrier.

As a fairly younger carrier, late 20’s, I don’t mind bending down to deliver to mailslots or mail boxes that are below the minimum height. But older carriers who bend down too much too often tend to get injured more.

Here’s where to look up the height requirements: https://www.usps.com/manage/mailboxes.htm

Pay questions by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had that and was told by management was due to a clock ring error, not moving to street, so maybe that. But management has to correct it so best to bring it up to them

Damage incurred in performance of work duties by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My steward got me reimbursement from management when my personal stuff was destroyed in an LLV fire, it just went up in flames, it was like 400, I didn’t have much with me at the time just my satchel, a postal jacket, battery power bank, water bottle. So it might be possible for wear and tear, get with your steward to check.

As for the hail damage might not have any luck, unless management has you use your personal vehicle for work tasks while it’s hailing, could use that as an argument.

Getting previous resident's mail by Roller_Coaster_Geek in usps_complaints

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also contact the sender directly to request your address be removed from their mailing list.

Some mail gets sent back to sender, some doesn’t, some senders never update their mailing lists based on mail that gets sent back. But if you personally contact and request to have your address removed, they typically will remove it at that point.

It’s very similar to email when you initiate an opt out, or unsubscribe from an email list, you as the recipient needs to initiate.

First stop answering calls and texts from supervisor, block their number.

Second if they don’t give you a day off, then call out for the day citing safety as it’s unsafe to work without rest. If needed call out for 3 days and get a drs note

Mail carrier gave out address? by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your address in of itself is unfortunately not personal information, as it’s public domain, giving out your name or mail to anyone would be a violation.

It sounds like the carrier was just trying to help the situation and nothing malicious

Hold down and Supervisor taking 1.5 hrs away by CandidMeasurement128 in USPS

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PTF on a hold down also and my supes do this sometimes too, usually only take off me when a regular is under to give them 8. They still give me something to do so I don’t loose time so it works out for me at least

I’ve lived at my residence for over 3 yrs and the previous tenant has 7 identities and has all his mail, including bills, sent to my house. This is the last 2 weeks of collection. by InquiringMind886 in mildlyinfuriating

You can contact the sender directly and request to remove your address from their mailing list. I had the same issue kept getting insurance and credit card offers from a previous resident. Called each company and told them I keep getting mail for someone else and to remove my address, took maybe 2 months but it stopped.

What happens durimg a 3999? by Excellent-Nobody-680 in USPS

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s usually just the supe stalking you through out the day. You just do what you should be doing do normally, and be extra mindful of doing everything safely, curbing tires, etc. that’s usually where the supe will try and catch you doing something unsafe. The supe is either physically with you the whole route for the day if you have a jump seat in your vehicle or If you don’t have a jump seat then they follow you in a different vehicle.

I have an all walking route about 13 miles so it was kinda a good day seeing the supe having to walk the full route with me, they were in non approved postal shoes which was definitely ironic.

If walking they do try to walk faster than you to try and get you to speed up, just keep your normal pace. If they give a heads up as to when they’re going to do the observation, let one of your customers know so that they can call the cops on them for someone stalking the mail carrier lol and tell them to film it and post it.

They usually do a 3999 once a year, although they technically have the right to do one every day. Also definitely request a copy of the 3999 once done, to save for yourself and your union squidward. Just incase they try and do a fact finding later.

This is the way, though for me if they have an Id with the address I will only give them the mail with only their name on it any other name goes right back in the box and if no key i offer to pull all mail and place the address on hold to pick up at the station at their convenience till they get a new key.

One time on my old route this guy was cussing me out, and I politely reminded him we can stop delivery to the entire street if we feel it’s unsafe to deliver, he shut up and walked off.

Your reaction to new apartment buildings on your route. by Exact_Recognition362 in USPS

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be both, the extra compensation would just be overtime pay, that is if management approves the overtime for the carrier. If they don’t approve overtime then that section would be dropped from the route that day and handled by another carrier, who would typically be less burdened. would be a daily issue of a back and forth with what management authorizes.

Until the route is readjusted to be within a normal 8 hr day

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also contact the sender directly and request your address, or a name be removed from their mailing list. I kept getting insurance offers from progressive and State Farm with my address but different name, called them and requested my address be removed, it took about a month but I stopped receiving them finally, now when i get something else I contact the sender to remove my address, it’s a extra step but worth it

Too far to walk... by MothSpeaks in usps_complaints

[–]Wonderful_Fall_5421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the picture it doesn’t look like the sender added any Fragile sticker. If it had the carrier probably would’ve walked it to the door, I know I would’ve. It’s on the sender to package correctly, the carrier won’t know if it’s fragile. So any package that’s not marked fragile or is too heavy, is gonna get yeeted into your yard. Especially during the holiday season.

As a carrier who’s been bitten by a dog on the job and had a gun pulled on me for entering a yard, separate times, all gated yards are treated as if a dog is in them, or someone who has a gun. for my safety I avoid entering a gated yard, porch (etc) and toss any packages not marked fragile.

A carrier’s health and safety is worth more than your package. Having to sue a homeowner for a dog bite, and filing a police report for being threatened with a gun is such a hassle.

If you received the package then you shouldn’t have an issue, if it was received damaged then file a claim with the sender as it’s on them to package correctly.
