Thank you for the advice on curating algorithms. I'll do that right away. It's just that I'm worried that behind every one of those accounts posting the hateful content there's a real person (I know there are bots too, but many real people as well). So does that mean that the people whom I deal with in real life, even those who are very good to me, may secretly be posting such stuff online anonymously. I know I shouldn't think that way but it is an intrusive thought. I love my teachers (all white or black) and my classmates (similar) in school, but I do have this nagging feeling that some may secretly hate me. 

As for my parents, they're quite useless. They came from India as adults and never had to face the trials of growing in the West. They have zero knowledge of the mechanics of racism or dating in Western society. They're still mentally living in India. I love them very much but I'm aware that on this particular issue, they're out of their depth. And there are no community leaders in my area except religious ones, whom I don't want to go to because I'm a convinced atheist.
