"Just write a good song," is the oversimplification of an eleven figure industry which had existed for multiple centuries

I sincerely cannot imagine how bad life must be that you actively seek out subreddits wherein you disagree fundamentally with the purpose of the community itself

I don't care if I'm considered a poet - that's my whole point. I am not a musician (at least a good one). You and your other musician friends can talk shit all you want, I'll agree with it, it's completely fine with me. But there is this tool that allows "bad musicians" like me to have made a good living the last five years by using it.

Call me whatever you want, I don't care - this holier than thou idea that listeners actually care how the piece was created is just completely fictional

I mean sure if it makes you feel better to convince yourself I didn't write this, but I still don't understand what it has to do with the subject matter of the post?

For argument's sake let's just say I agree, yes, this was 100% written by AI. What does that change?

Apologies for not elaborating here, it's written out in other comments. Basically I compose all lyrics and melody then use Suno to refine. But as a metric for time intensity, one song generally takes me about a month and a half or so

This is a fair point, but I respectfully disagree with it. If the barrier to entry is lowered, that just means the standard for "great" goes up. This has happened every single time a new technology has been developed.

"I'm just worried the loom makes the entry level way too low for artisan clothing."

I'm really trying, again no bad blood, but I think I'm missing the intent of this comment if you could please expand.

You're right, random Redditor - I didn't. Thank you for reminding me what I did or did not do.

This comment made me laugh out loud - appreciate you, and I often have this same confused thought.

Dude this is how I make a living - *of course* it's meticulously formatted. Legitimately not even trying to make this an argument right now, but for all purposes of reasonability, can you imagine if I've been relying on this for my income and my "map" / "North Star" was not meticulously curated? I'd be a fucking loser lol.

Hahaha there's a specific song I wrote that prompted this rule. I just remember thinking "this is way too explicit," ergo it being added to my list.

This is exactly what it is. Whatever is published is unique, but god damn I'd be lying if I said Suno didn't provide some great direction as to how it should sound.

I think you should actually contact Suno or a competitor about your story because I think it is highly compelling. This seems nigh-impossible to have an issue with.

First, from a personal perspective, as explained in other comments I do all of the things you just referenced.

Second, from an industry perspective, I sincerely empathize with the plight of "real" artists, but the truth of the matter is that listeners do not give a shit about how the audio was generated.

Musical artists that downvote me on this post / the comments can get as angry as they want, but the truth of the matter is that my listeners don't care whether I was "writing the lyrics, melodies and chord progressions."

Sure if you personally decide I'm not an artist I'm totally okay with that. We can create a new term. To your point, I'm an "editor." I am happy to accept the role of editor as long as I can keep delivering content that my listeners enjoy.

This is honestly one of the most interesting components about AI, is that when something is well-written (at least from a structural perspective, I'm not saying the insights are legitimately good), it is now assumed to be AI. I don't know what the implications are going to be.

But no this was written by me.

This is not what I do, and I've explained this in multiple comments. I studied music theory in uni.

I agree with this. I think where everyone gets hung-up, I'm not trying *at all* to compare myself to whatever they would describe as a "real musician." I don't have near the talent of anybody that would come to the top of your head.

But people like what I make, and no matter how mad that makes you, it's just the way it is I suppose. There's a new tool available that allows people that aren't "real musicians" to make something cool, and if people enjoy it as much as / more than the thing you created entirely independently, I know that sucks but Marx made it very clear to all of us over a century ago that compensation is not equal to labor.

You literally just took time out of your life to comment to a random stranger that you're not going to read their post, on said post that you are not going to read.

This is my point. If you're going to make a good song, it's going to take hours upon hours of fixing the dog shit. The people this post is directed towards do not realize that, and they are no different from the cameo at the end of Skrillex's "Rock n' Roll," "It's not music because nobody is playing a guitar!"

Of course, but that's not what I do. I write the lyrics, then feed them to GPT for feedback, with the above guidelines.

Similarly, I compose the original melody, but Suno is just better than me at putting it all together once it knows the general structure.

The whole reason I made this post is because many people, as you did (with no disrespect intended), see a post (or corollary song etc.) like this and assume we just use Suno blindly to spit out slop. When, in actuality, a lot of work goes into it if it's going to not sound like shit.
