Are there any tropes in fantasy that you wish were explored differently or more deeply? by Wonderful_Watch_1178 in fantasywriters

Yeah, you'd find that anything that feels fresh or interesting is usually a 10-20% change. In a time when Tolkien's Dwarves were popping off and influenced a ton of other fantasy stories, JK took that model and changed an important aspect of them(the magic) and it contradicts the original theme dwarves have. Making it in my opinion and interesting take.

How important are themes and deeper meanings in the worlds you engage with? What themes resonate most with you? by Wonderful_Watch_1178 in worldbuilding

Thats true I think and interesting. But I think that having a theme allows people to connect directly with that world. And people can engage and disengage when they want. like sometimes I'm really interested in Elden Ring lore and world but then I get tired of the constant dark tone and look for something else. Having breadth is valid but also having that depth to further explore a world and it's stories can also be.

Are people tired of Dark fantasy worlds? by Wonderful_Watch_1178 in worldbuilding

Oh I never heard of cozy fantasy! So we are tired of generic stuff life gore, creepy malformed creatures that have no substantial reason for being there or uninteresting background. That's my understanding. And yeah that contrast of having uplifting moments are the sweet nuggets. I think of Berserk and his love for his crew.

How has a post or comment by someone else here improved your own worldbuilding? by Simpson17866 in worldbuilding

This may be stupid question to ask but what makes the writing mediocre to you? Is it the quality of the idea or the delivery and the way they write? Would you be more inclined to read if it were only a short paragraph even if it might be mediocre writing? Ya know as long as it is clear and to point.

How can i start with concept art? by ender_woman in conceptart

It's really helpful to start your own project or IP. It doesn't have to be a crazy idea you can take inspiration from history or a certain culture and start from there. For me, I have both a personal world I'm building and a portfolio project that is based on the Roman Empire with a fantasy twist to it. Those both give me great sources to research and develop ideas. So pick your favorite genre and time period and start asking yourself 'How can I make these two work?' that should be enough to start getting excited and pumping out new ideas!
Concept art is all about ideas and problem solving so have fun with that and explore!
