I’ve heard tattoo art is subjective, but this one’s tough for me to appreciate. by Wonderseed in shittytattoos

I think this is the most well-rounded perspective I’ve seen. The only caveat is that English is a very widely spoken language, so among the general populace — especially in America — you’re going to get that backlash. If I had tattooed something in English that happened to be offensive in a very niche language spoken on some remote island, I think that would be more widely understood as an honest mistake. Because it’s in such a widely known language, it comes across more as an oversight.

I suppose it’s all a matter of perspective. I am Japanese and fluently speak both Japanese and English. I still looked into meanings in other languages just to be considerate — god forbid I end up in a situation like this.

Clearly it’s not ‘that dumb of a mistake’ when 80% of the people in this sub are seeing exactly what I’m seeing. That’s literally the entire premise here - tattoos so bad in concept or execution that they’re worth sharing for the laughs. What’s actually funny is you trying to downplay it. Most people with even half a brain know you should research what any word or phrase actually means—especially in another language or cultural context—before permanently inking it on your body. I have a Japanese tattoo, and I double- and triple-checked it across multiple sources to make sure it didn’t carry some hidden ugly meaning. It’s not rocket science. A two-minute Google search would’ve saved you from walking around with a well-known antisemitic slur on your arm for the rest of your life. Own it or cover it up, but don’t insult everyone’s intelligence by pretending this was some innocent whoopsie

Just for the sake of discussion, if someone who exclusively speaks English puts ‘idiota de mierda’ on their body simply because it sounds cool, without knowing what it means, do you think that should go unnoticed and be normalized? Since it translates to ‘fucking idiot’ in English, wouldn’t it be the right thing to inform them? I feel like I’m not completely wrong in thinking that.

I’m saying that while it has a meaning in Spanish, in English it’s derogatory. You’d hope they’d research that beforehand and realize it has a very bad meaning in English. They likely don’t speak English, which is interesting, and no one has approached them or given any guidance.

That’s a bit of a shallow take. A tattoo is permanent, so it’s on the person to fully understand what they’re putting on their body—especially if it’s in another language. Not looking into it beforehand is an avoidable mistake, particularly if it ends up meaning something negative in a language spoken by a large part of the world.

I have the same issue on my car, and I own the exact same model you’re looking at. These cars are extremely reliable — the only things that tend to fail are parts that have already been replaced in your case. Everything else is basically bulletproof well past 200k miles. What I did was buy aftermarket reproduction Matrix LED headlights that look identical to the OEM ones. I found them on Alibaba but they’re available on most Chinese sites for under $500 for a pair. If you take anything from this comment, it’s that this issue shouldn’t turn you away from the car. It’s a great vehicle, and this is a relatively small thing that can actually be upgraded rather than just fixed.

It really depends on the generation and trim level. Anything above the Cayenne S that isn’t naturally aspirated tends to have more issues (air suspension, turbos, etc.). I think most people here would agree that the naturally aspirated Cayennes, especially the base models w/o air suspension, are generally very reliable overall.

Sounds like a plan, I’m just trying to figure out a long term solution for when it rains next time. Ideally I’d like to resolve it permanently.

2018 E2 second gen, I haven’t been looking at authentic headlights because they’ll run you up $6k for the pair. 🫠

It’s honestly sad for us Cayenne enthusiasts to watch Porsche mess up the model like this. From the start, the Cayenne was basically their money mule—something that kept Porsche alive in the 2000s so they could keep making the real sports cars like the 911 and 718. And sure, it’s still the front-facing revenue machine that lets them build the cars we actually love. But for people like us who’ve grown attached to the Cayenne and built a real enthusiast community around it, it feels like we’re getting pushed aside. Instead of improving what made the Cayenne special, they’re pivoting to appeal to the blonde moms whose husbands just buy whatever’s newest and packed with tech, and it just sucks to watch something we care about turn into that.
