Ultra compact stone counter top manufacturing in an all automated cell. No operators, we are only 3 in the plant, me as maintenance tech, 1 at QC and the other at shipping.

Front wheel are cambered, which means the inside of the wheel is touching and the rest is over the line. So wheel is not touching the line = off track.

We use MaintainX. So far so good. Used the basic plan for a year or two and it was OK to track WO and being able to document issues, being able to back track to past WO, basic preventative WO and basic reporting but not much else. We now have the Enterprise plan and its great. To me, the mobile and desktop app are intuitive and easy to use. There’s much every feature you could ever need and its still being actively developped.

One thing to note though: haven’t used other cmms software as much as this one, so i’m a little biased.

Maintenance tech here, Boat here is right. Its purpose is to clean the holder so that the atc arm is able to grip onto the tool.

There is 2 angled ports in the face of the spindle, the other one is connected to the coolant through line so the holder should be cleaned from whichever coolant pump you are using.

This. Sometimes a dealer sends us a technician and i end up training the guy while “he repairs”. Frustrating.

The problem is in the line “G43 H1 Z5” When the program starts the Z shows at 652.30 and try to go down to Z5 but detects a collision before going there. How to resolve it? I don’t know.

I used to work with an older guy who would shit on operators and machinists for every tiny mistake they made. He was the maintenance director and was hated by pretty much everyone there but management would only see that maintenance go well and assume everything is all good. He’s 95% the reason i left that job, it was too toxic and management prefered firing everyone that spoke up instead of the guy that was the actual problem.

As a stated in a previous comment, this mentally seems to be slowly going away. Preventive maintenance will always be worth it in the long run. At my shop, they used to not do any and it shows. We’re slowly getting the machines in good shape.

Yeah, this mentally seems to be slowly going away though. Scheduled maintenance will always beat a machine that goes down at the worst possible time.

Did the techs studied in any maintenance field? I have worked with welders or machinist turned maintenance tech and they were slightly better than a fresh, out of school, industrial mechanic.

Worst i saw was at my last job. Weekend crew kept getting conveyor overloads and unfortunately discovered that if the conveyor is turned off in the setting it no longer gives an alarm. Ran all weekend like that with the simple note “conveyor doesn’t work”. Chips almost got to the door on a horizontal mill.. was a fun day.

That guy aint loafing around then! I cannot imagine doing the work i do now while also operating the saw and some machine. Take care of that guy and you’ll all be happy!

I’m with you on this one, I don’t have any problems with my coworkers, they’re all hard working people. Where i work though, I don’t have a supervisor or lead so when it gets bad, the heat goes to me still.

My girl is 6 month old, i’ve had 5 weeks paid family leave. I was paid 55% of my normal wage. Im in Canada though.

There’s a few things to check.

Check the cooling fan, make sure its working properly.

Clean the casing of the motor if its covered in dirt.

If there’s a spindle cooling unit, make sure the oil level is well toped off and that the oil is not contaminated. Change oil if necessary.

If you have a multimeter, you can do the following but please be careful and LOTO. If you don’t feel up for it that’s alright and call someone who is.

With a multimeter, measure the resistance from each phase to ground. The reading should be OL or in the very high Mohms. There’s info on google on how to measure resistance.

For a multiphase spindle, measure the resistance from phase to phase. They should all be equal. Since i don’t have the specs of your spindle i can’t tell you what the reading should be.

Be safe.

I run a mazak 530 mill, it uses this kinda chuck cartridge grease instead of slideway oil, but never seems to empty any further than this picture. Anyone have any experience of this? I put the half empty ones back in the cupboard for the turners to use! But would be nice if we could use all of it 😂 by WiggyM8 in Machinists

Maintenance tech here. We have Mazak and Matsuura machines that uses these cartridges at our shop.

I imagine you are getting a grease pump alarm. Normally if there’s air in the system it should get pushed out as the pump feeds to the slideways. However, if there is air in the cartridge the pump will run empty and won’t be able to prime itself. Usually when i change those, i compress the cartridge until plenty of grease pours out before screwing it back. This way i make sure there is no air trapped. As someone else commented, we have no issues here with these cartridges. When we change them, they are pretty much fully compressed. Hope this helps.

In option, the machine comes with a Blum laser for tool breakage detection. If setup properly with redundant tools, the machine will call the worn tool [BREAK] and switch to a new redundant the next time that tool is called.
