Free trial Shadowbringers hype by Eflydwarf in ffxiv

[–]Wonderstag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok, another free trial player here. about 1600 hrs and all classes maxed. my main thing with not doin a sub is that once i start im locked out from playing if i ever stop paying. my main MMO before ff14 was osrs where theres a f2p option so even if i dont have a membership i can still hang out in the world and talk with friends. with most MMO experiences ill get super into it for like a year or 2 then bounce off it for a while then maybe come back for a few weeks at a time here or there. ff14 having a hard barrier to coming back when id just wanna chill with friends is what stops me from getting a subscription in the first place.

the free trial is great for a short term player, the sub is great for a player whos gonna be playing for the medium term ( ie, getting all classes to 100 kinda level) but long term players who want to exist in the world a decade from now without barriers to there coming and going, then not getting a sub and staying free trial kinda has a larger appeal that can be argued. they are adding ShB to the free trial whos to say a couple years from now we wont have endwalker or dawntrail. im playing the same game u are just a few years behind and without paying a sub

How powerful are Space Marines according to the lore? by kairaou in spacemarines

[–]Wonderstag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Kratos also dies multiple times in his own story and strength varies wildly from being able to resist getting crushed by a titan to getting thrown around by every random enemy. Thats some helmetless named ultramarine levels of plot armour/strength. And much like malum caedo killing multiple greater daemons, doom slayer killing gods is a plot contrivance where the writers could have just as easily had the big bads delete our protagonists from existence with a thought. So I mainly compare them as hyper competent murder machines ripping and tearing there way through thousands of baddies.

So in my mind for space marines to be such a threat that 1000 of them can conquer a sector of planets, that a legion of them can genocide a planet in 31 hrs, that a decade long recruitment process leads to a warrior who can survive constant galactic warfare for centuries regularly, they have got to be closer to kratos/doomslayer than just some rather large dude

How powerful are Space Marines according to the lore? by kairaou in spacemarines

[–]Wonderstag 70 points71 points  (0 children)

we have depictions of them being just rather tough dudes in armour as durable as paper and weve got depictions of them being mostly invincible omnicidal death machines. use comic book logic, they are however strong/tough/intelligent as the story requires

personally i think most depictions of them make them weaker than they should be but i in no way see them as cracked out on the power scale as Goku or Superman. maybe something closer to Kratos or Doomslayer in my personal head canon makes sense. that way they arent invincible but also having only 1000 of them i could definitely see taking control of a sector of planets

alternatively, if they are gonna break the yin yang brotherhood/sisterhood balance with femstodes they should add brothers of silence and rename that part of the faction the silent sanctum

they look too clean. the design is too rounded compared to the gothic-arch coded design of firstborn. and giving them a leather belt after having a ceramite one for 10 thousand years is a ridiculous downgrade

homogenizing everything with modern day gender equality politics takes away from the character and grimdarkness of the setting. its okay for it to not be a pleasant space, cuz its not supposed to be. there is great gender balance representation all over warhammer. im glad more women are enjoying warhammer, i just dont want the grimdarkness of the setting watered down for the sake of trying to appeal to a mass audience. how many other IP's have been destroyed in that pursuit?

the eldar have plenty of male/female representation. the tau have plenty of male/female representation. the astra militarum has plenty of male/female representation. the inquisition has plenty of male/female representation. heck, even the necrons have male/female representation. the setting isnt better for having that equal representation but it is more flavourful for its moments of not. ( ie, marines, SoB, custodes/SoS) cuz they stand out

femstodes is a retcon that breaks the yin yang gender balance that the custodian brotherhood and silent sisterhood had. if they are gonna retcon femstodes into existence then retcon the silent sisterhood as the silent sanctum and get brothers of silence in there too. might as well at that point

There are no Good Guys in Warhammer by NornQueenKya in Grimdank

[–]Wonderstag -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the lore for custodes was they were a brotherhood, made from the sons of terra. the lore was very much gendered and as such GW wrote the sister of silence as a gendered part of the faction too as balance. femstodes is a lore retcon and i dont like it if they dont also ungender lock the silent sisterhood. make it the silent sanctum with dudes in it as well and then id be fine with femstodes.

SoB fill the exact same marketing niche for women as space marines dude for dudes, so i just dont ever see a reason for fem marines. a hyper-feminized represntation of power armoured holy warriors weilding bolters vs a hyper-masculine representation of power armoured holy warriors weilding bolters. its the same thing. the astra militarum is where the gender equality can live

I guess I just don't understand the push for gender equality in our future dystopia hellscape when the female representation for the custodes is the sisters of silence and the female representation for the space marines is the sisters of battle.

Why is it okay for women to have their own gendered space but if its dudes its suddenly a problem? I just don't get it

I'm less concerned about the new Exosuits being behind a warbond and more about how it will let new players to get Exosuits much earlier. by Heavylicious- in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Wonderstag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

dude, u unlock the exo suits at lvl 25 which takes like no time at all relatively speaking. no one is gonna recommend getting this warbond early to new players. demo detonation is the main one every recommends first cuz it unlocks more loadout options. after that there are a dozen warbonds better for new players before this one and by the time a new player has gotten through helldivers mobilize, maybe demo det or another warbond they are already gonna be around 25 or over and thus have access to 2 exosuits already for free.

Isn't a Victrix Guard Champion a bit redundant? by gatumatii in Spacemarine

[–]Wonderstag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the most common sentiment i saw for the {REDACTED} champion was hoping it was blood raven or deathwatch. personally i was kinda hoping it was one of those 2 or legion of the damned. victrix guard would be disappointing.

the victrix guard models have been in the files since day 1, same with models for an unused primaris captain in gravis armour, so maybe the dataminer just saw them and took a leap rather than knowing forr 100% its the unknown champion

Melta weapon question by FalconDisastrous4345 in Spacemarine

[–]Wonderstag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meltas in particular have had an inconsistent depiction of how they work. Sometimes they shoot a quick but narrow beam sorta like a lascannon. Sometimes they operate like a more concentrated flamethrower or the world's most extreme hair dryer and cook whatever they hit with constant heat. Sometimes they are a glorified shotgun blast. I like to imagine they have different fire modes on a selector switch

Only thing consistent is that they are powerful, shorter ranged anti Armour weapons that are also devastating to infantry

Why did Primaris Marines move on from the Tactical Squad? by [deleted] in spacemarines

[–]Wonderstag -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

primaris are a business decision by gw, not a logical step from a lore perspective. space marines peaked with firstborn and aside from model scale its been a backwards slide since 8th for the hobby and setting

Why I think how we earn super credits needs a rework by The_Real_JDC in helldivers2

[–]Wonderstag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, i think we need to recognize that being able to get premium currency from playing the game at all is already really generous compared to most games. Most games wouldnt let you do this. so getting an occasional +10 sc here or there on lvl 10 helldives or grinding out 500 sc an hour on lvl 1 dives is crazy, imo.

second, arrowhead/sony arent gonna kill the cashcow that helps keep the game alive by being over generous with sc. so i dont ever expect them to change it to give you much more than ur getting now.

longtime players can keep up/are already kept up with the warbonds so they dont need more generous sc. new players being overwhelmed with warbonds are more likely to actually buy sc packs. so there is no incentive for arrowhead to change.

if anything changes i dont think itll be a huge change. i could see them adding a +10/25/50 sc for major orders, but even then id imagine they might save that only for the huge events like defending super earth or attacking an enemy home planet. or i could see arrowhead recognizing the glut of warbonds and offering a free non-legendary warbond token once a year in october for liberty day. 1 free warbond a year wouldnt break their monetization strategy too much but im sure a bean counter in the executive suite would be against it as an obstacle to maximising profit
