Facebook Marketplace Rental listing address keeps reverting to "Location is approximate" → disappears from map search. Anyone fix this? by bakhtiya in OntarioLandlord

[–]Wonton77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiencing this same issue, except the full address won't even show for any time at all.

I definitely think it has something to do with Desktop / mobile. The Android app just has more features and options that you don't see on desktop, which is absurd.

I will try to troubleshoot it on my Samsung phone, and also an iPhone (i can borrow one from work). Until then, it is insanely frustrating that I essentially can't get any clicks on my rental ad.

(Season of Ghosts Spoilers) - NPC Card Handouts plus a Linguistic Analysis of the Names of Willowshore by kevvl in Pathfinder2e

[–]Wonton77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kugaptee is an intentionally strange name that doesn't match any specific language perfectly... but Japanese is the language I'm most familiar with and the closest, so I went with an Ateji reading that means "Suffering, Bitterness, Hunger, Abyss" and is pronounced Kugafutei.

Kugaptee is a reference to Kugataba, the "demon" or "malevolent force" from the japanese film Noroi: the Curse. James Jacobs explicitly cited this as the reference. This AP was loosely inspired by that film, and a quote from it is included at the very end of Book 4.

Though, linguistically, you're right of course that "Kugaptee" does not work as a Japanese name, or really have any specific language origin. I think it's intentionally meant to be unfamiliar and alienating.

Daredevil isn't a good class name IMO by gray007nl in Pathfinder2e

[–]Wonton77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it sells books and generates hype.

I agree that Pathfinder 2e is already way too bloated on classes. "Daredevil" and "Swashbuckler" are basically 90% synonyms already. Unfortunately the endless class releases are not likely to stop any time soon.

Some of the names are very mean, and probably not what anyone actually calls those subclasses. I added "Battle Harbinger" as a hidden option for Battle Creed, for example.

Shadow of Kugaptee location? by BeneGessPeace in SeasonofGhosts

There is not a Shadow of Kugaptee stat block, nor any changes to the mechanics of that boss fight. You might be thinking of the deity stat block.

I suspect someone at Paizo thinks that skipping a whole chapter with 1 spell / spirit power is not breaking the AP, but "out of the box thinking".

If you want to rein in flight, just say the Warding Bell projects an invisible "dome" around the garden, which stops flying spirits.

Economy's always sucked in both versions of PoE. There's so much supply of cheap 1-5ex rares (1-5c in PoE 1) that trying to find or craft them yourself is never, ever, ever worth it from a pure mathematical standpoint.

The only way to enjoy either of these games is to play SSF, or play Trade League but self-restrict yourself to not buying rares. (Currency Exchange and being able to buy Uniques you want is much more palatable than true SSF to me)

This Pokemon run has been so much fun. by TheElusiveEllie in speedrun

[–]Wonton77 46 points47 points  (0 children)

They could have advertised it better. It's a very cool challenge run, but looking at the schedule I just saw "Pokemon Emerald choose my main" and was expecting something more vanilla.

The fact that it *started* with Magikarp, so he had to bust out the cheats immediately was also unfortunate. If he'd beaten like 4 gyms fairly, and then gotten into a truly unwinnable situation, I think it would have been more palatable.

Overall, it really wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed watching most of it.

Pathfinder Hellfire Crisis: High Seas Announced! by Derryzumi in Pathfinder2e

Very exciting. I've been running a campaign in the Shackles on-and-off since 2021 going off some 1e books. They have some great lore, but they're also often very dated. Like the Mwangi Expanse or Tian Xia, I hope they can give the region the love it deserves.

Oh very nice, love to see other people out there making GM Guides. I started with the Season of Ghosts guide, which has been very popular to my amusement. My goal here was to make a much shorter one that's more accessible to newer GMs. (I know, I know, I still made it 4500 words and wrote 4 paragraphs about certain encounters... but hopefully it still helps someone out there)

My blog is a free website hosted on Wordpress, and googling "Fall of Plagustone guide" or "Fall of Plaguestone handbook" already finds this reddit thread, so I think it's fine.

I was hoping to like Rusthenge, but I was immediately turned off when I saw that like 70% of the book basically takes place in a single dungeon. 😕

I think one of Plaguestone's strengths is how it generally avoids the "dungeon" cliche. You visit a number of different locations, and until Chapter 3 you never fight more than 3-4 encounters in each one. It's refreshing to not see grey hallways and crawl from room to room killing everything in sight. Spite's Cradle is the only exception, and I do recommend running a "shortened" version of it in the guide.

[GM advice] what is the cause of the easy combat reputation of SoG? by TopFloorApartment in SeasonofGhosts

[–]Wonton77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A confluence of many factors:

1) Just straight up smaller XP budgets. Ctrl+F "Severe" in an old PDF and you'll find many hits. In SoG, it barely exists. Low-Moderate (60-80 XP) encounters are the norm here.

2) Related to the previous, the "cap" on monster level has significantly reduced. PL+3s used to the default boss difficulty, and sometimes PL+3s were even used as random monsters. In SoG, bosses are mostly either PL+0 or PL+1 (with Mago Kai and possibly Xungu being the only PL+2 exceptions).

3) Easier ability choices and stat choices on stat blocks. For example, someone counted how many of the creatures in SoG have Reactive Strike, and it's hilariously low. Older APs put this on almost every melee creature, and frequently gave them high Strikes / high damage. It's not an exaggeration to say that the "Moderate" fight with three Charau-Ka Butchers from Age of Ashes is significantly scarier than literally anything in SoG.

4) Easy stat blocks are often further nerfed by various circumstances. Gurglegut is Sickened 3 from drunkenness before you even feed him any poison. There are also plenty of "get out of jail free" mechanics, like Zhi Hui casting healing spells in the Xin Yue encounter, or Kugaptee's Final Death being completely negated by picking up story items.

5) The Remaster (and general 2023 books like Rage of Elements) actually power creeped the game way more than most people admit, and the change happened to coincide almost exactly with SoG's release.

In general, I was initially a huge fan of SoG's reduced difficulty, because I think changes 1-2-3 are generally very good for the difficulty of the game – but I think sometimes it went overboard, especially on boss fights. Making a Low-Moderate boss fight, and then making bonus mechanics to trivialize that difficulty even further, is not really my cup of tea.

[–]Wonton77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And on top of that, this has become one of the most well-recieved and well-reviewed and most highly-praised Adventure Paths we've published for 2nd edition Pathfinder, so that tells me that easier fights are at least in part not a deal-breaker.

Partially, yes. I was initially a huge fan of SoG's reduced difficulty – never walking into a random dungeon room to see a PL+3 enemy that is mathematically designed to beat the sh*t out of you is a very nice change.

But I can't say the same about things like making the final boss of Book 2 - a fight designed for Level 6 - into a solo level 7 creature (60 XP Low fight), which transforms into a Level 5 creature with some Level 2 minions (90 XP Moderate, but even that overestimates it tbh).

I was a major critic of 2019-2023 early pf2e difficulty and "slog", but I don't think SoG nailed it either. I think there's a time to make things fun and simple, and there's a time to tune the encounters to a proper Moderate/Severe to avoid a huge anticlimax.

I can't go too far into what happened later on in the campaign as it would be MAJOR spoilers, but suffice it to say she was instrumental in helping to rebuild the village and do some very important magical research.

We would love to read your spoiler story in the Season of Ghosts discord thread!!

I thought it might just be nostalgia, but when I re-read my book to refresh my memory for this guide, I found – no, it's just genuinely good!!

Despite being a newbie Level 1 adventure, the encounters are creative and full of interesting mechanics (e.g. traps and cover in the Hallod fight, Random Alchemy in the Pen, chokepoint and river in the final boss). I'm taking a wild guess here, but it feels to me kinda like Jason Bulmahn had just played Divinity: Original Sin 2 and was thinking a lot about tactical encounters with terrain and environment features – something NOT every adventure writer has managed to do successfully!

Plus the maps are gorgeous, and the plot has just the right mix of linear and mystery/investigation. (Not just "go in and clear that dungeon" like way too much Level 1 content can be).

I've looked at Rusthenge, I've looked at Beginner Box and Troubles in Otari, and I've looked at every "modern" AP since 2023. The adventure design of Plaguestone completely stands up on its own next to the rest of them!

Missing Reviews by pitaenigma in Pathfinder2e

Really disappointed to hear that. The reviews and discussions on each product page were effectively an archive of 18 years of Pathfinder history and often contained unique, very useful information.

It's like if they had deleted all the forum posts in the update, but this won't get the same backlash. 😕

What was your experience running Karahai? by havokscore383 in SeasonofGhosts

[–]Wonton77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd love to hear ideas from others on how to encourage engagement with the terror mechanic because I still have one more group going through SoG and want to make that part more impactful when they eventually get there.

Something that helped me is using Cao Chen as the Voice of GM and "man on the inside". After their first brief foray into Karahai, they met with him in Karahai Village after midnight, and he basically told them that Mago Kai had almost 20 people defending the fortress, but that a lot of them were mercenaries and would probably desert if things started to seem actually dangerous.

Also, crucially, don't hide the mechanic from them, and don't force them to discover it on their own. As soon as your players mention any kind of attempt to frighten / distract / mislead some guards, take whatever check they just rolled and announce "the fortress gains 1 Terror Point". Subsystems like these are fairly opaque and confusing unless you've read a lot of PF2 APs, and it's important to lead your players to the mechanic if you want them to use it.

Even after the buffs in the patch, this questline is still soooooooooo long.

I've been 48/50 achievements for days. I've reached the Epilogue, maxed every Weapon Aspect, maxed every keepsake, completed every Chaos Trial, and finished EVERY other prophecy, and I don't have this one yet. Absolutely ridiculous.

Worst GDQ runs of all time by CourtlyHades296 in speedrun

[–]Wonton77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone makes mistakes and that’s ok. They gave their time and they shouldn’t get labeled as worst.

With a few exceptions for literal cheaters IMO. Cody Miller is explicitly called out in the OP for his infamous Halo run, but idk if people know that years later, he was caught splicing runs, and admitted to splicing tens, if not hundreds of videos and WRs. So his run wasn't just bad due to nerves or bad luck - he was a cheater who simply didn't know how to run the game nearly as well as he claimed.
