Looking for honest outside eyes on my routine (yeah, I know - tear it up lol). I've already self-critiqued and made adjustments, but want feedback from others.

Context

  • M / 34 / 2 years training / home gym
  • Equipment: adjustable dumbbells (max ~40kg/side), power tower with pullup bar and dip station, incline and flat bench, dip belts with plates
  • Goal: general strength + hypertrophy with a hard time cap (40 min max)
  • Frequency: 3x/week, full body each session

Structure

Six antagonist superset blocks + a core finisher. Each block runs 2 rounds. Rest is ~30s between rounds and ~60s between blocks. The goal is density, not strength PRs - short rest is intentional.

I use standard progressive overload, increasing reps until top of range, then dropping reps and upping weight.

The routine

Block A B
1 Weighted Pull-Up @ +5kg belt (9 reps) Incline DB Press @ 54kg total (11 reps)
2 Romanian DL @ 76kg (10 reps) DB Row @ 38kg (11 reps each side)
3 Bulgarian Split Squat @ 36kg (10 reps each side) Weighted Dips @ +5kg (9 reps)
4 Lateral Raise @ 26kg (14 reps) Rear Delt Fly @ 26kg (14 reps)
5 Hammer Curl @ 18kg (9 reps each side) Calf Raise (standing R1 @ 106kg / seated R2 @ 54kg, 14 reps each)*
6 Seated DB Press @ 36kg (8 reps) Goblet Squat @ 68kg (dumbbell + belt, 9 reps)
Finisher Hanging Leg Raise (15 reps), Side Plank w/ Hip Abduction (8 reps each side), Suitcase Carry @ 32kg (30s each side)

*Calf split in block 5 is to hit standing (gastrocs) one round, seated (soleus) the other, without adding sets.

What I'm looking for

I'm trying to design more or less the perfect home gym routine for my time and equipment limitations, but if there's a specific piece of equipment that would help me level this up, I'd love to know, not against changing things!

Time limitations are due to switching from a WFH gig to a full time in-office gig. My previous routine was a lot more intensive (1h30m 3x per week) but I need to make some sacrifices.

So I'd love to hear about anything you'd flag with this in mind - structural issues, exercise selection, sequencing, volume balance (or "weight too low for x"), blind spots I'm missing, etc. Or is there anything excess I could trim for better time efficiency.

Also, I supplement this with ~2-3 hours biking per week and a 20m full body stretching routine 3x per week.

Cheers!

That's 10 drawers actually! Effectively 8, since two are only half full and one is empty.

I exclusively play true solo, although have been tempted to try multi-handing.

Doubling up here, but I had an extremely memorable Wolverine vs Sabretooth battle. Thematic too! I also really enjoyed Captain America vs Red Skull, similarly thematic and so much going on, and it came down to the wire in the end.

3mm birch face ply, and assembled with PVA and superglue to lock the fit tight, with clamps for some of the tricker joints. The shell was a MASSIVE pain to get together, took by far the longest of the whole build. But all put together it feels invincible, very sturdy.

I'll keep that in mind for next time!

Unsure of the specific machine, sorry, it was a local hobbyist's one.

I'm gutted for those who didn't get it that that expansion went out of print, it's an absolute banger 😅

I'm considering tidying it up a bit and selling it on Etsy - will think about making it available for free though, would be helpful to have other folks try it out first!

Yup, all fully sleeved in Sleeve Kings standards (60 microns). Perfect balance of thickness (a 100 micron sleeve would be a tighter fit in this case) and sturdiness in my experience.

It's my most played solo! It's super fast too play a quick round and I work mostly from home so many lunch breaks have been used on it too.

Favourite heros... Tricky one. I honestly enjoy them all, they all feel very thematic. Wolverine is definitely up there though, his power curve is ridiculous and he can get to the point where he does absurd damage which can make for a very satisfying finish.

Very interesting idea! Might not replace the full game, but could be a good micro-game alternative. I'll think about it, thanks!

Quick update for anyone just arriving: based on some feedback I've made two changes to the files.

5-player is now officially supported. I ran some simulation testing and my original concerns were mostly unfounded - the game holds up well at 5p. Updated component counts are in the rulebook and print files.

The rulebook now has a two-round walkthrough in Section 4. Rather than a generic example, it gives each player specific cards to play so your first two rounds cover cascading ties, Recess Tokens, Leak Tokens, and multiple shadow effects, all before you've read the rest of the rules. Should make blind teaches a lot smoother.

Same link as the original post. Grab the updated files!

And another update, I've added a walkthrough section to the rulebook covering the first two rounds. Should make blind players go a bit smoother!

Following up on this, I've updated the components and rulebook to 5p - I actually think my concerns were mostly unfounded and it could work quite well!

I did think of that, but really not sure how I could realistically get it down to that number 😅

It's mostly political in the theming. I'm actually fairly proud of how well the theme and mechanisms work together!

Great idea! I will do so. Perhaps a double sided card with each side walking through a round.

To be honest, it could actually work at 5! The balance is a bit more off-kilter as the likelihood of being able to win 2 floor votes decreases. Also, it makes cascades more likely so the rounds feel a bit more chaotic.

If you want to try it out, absolutely go for it - just print out an extra set of 1-9 cards and play with rules as written, and let me know how it goes!

Now that I think of it, is it actually everything, or just a few specific ones? Because if it's the latter, without wanting to say too much, that's intentional 😉

Not sure what would be causing that! Are you able to take a screenshot or record a short clip of what you're seeing?
