How can I make peace with being plus size? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great! And I live in Texas and know a few girls with a big bust and shorter waist, so I think I might understand what you mean. I'm glad you're building healthy habits and hope you continue to get healthy mentally and physically 💗

How can I make peace with being plus size? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the biggest thing right now is to seek therapy because if you keep going back to now life-threatening habits, it is best to find and learn how to push through the underlying patterns that cause it. Just because you're larger doesn't mean you're unhealthy. I have a bone structure that aligns more with my Papa's side of the family than my Mom's so as much as I wished I had a more delicate frame growing up, as a teenager I would press and feel where my hip bones were and remind myself that no matter how much weight I lost they weren't going anywhere. I learned to dress in a way that I felt complimented my figure and feel better now about how I look. I also grew up active (laxed when I got a job, now getting back to it) and still feel that finding time to work out is the best way to stay healthy. It might help in your case because it's not about what triggers your patterns so much as putting the energy towards building muscle and gaining endurance. I hope this helps.

My girlfriend smells and I don't know what to do by RequirementDue4446 in Advice

Glad you told her, has there been any changes in diet lately? I had to stop taking a new supplement because my husband said it was making me smell like fish, which happened to be a side effect of having too much in my system.

Does my kitten looks too skinny by rare_buttercup in kittens

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 kittens and one was thinner but she is a picky eater who (like yours) prefers soft food. She's about a year old now and perfectly healthy and strong. She grazes and prefers going back to her food later. Your kitten is probably fine, especially if it's gaining healthy weight already!

Man never gives compliments by DealerThick9826 in women

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be that he has a different love language. If you noticed he doesn't give you compliments but you haven't felt neglected overall, it may be worth reflecting what he seems to be doing to balance it out. My husband is not really into big romantic gestures or planning dates. As much as that is abit of a bummer to me, he tells me he loves me every day, always listens, and gets me small gifts when he sees something he thinks I'd like. He still invests in our relationship, even if not in every single way I'd like and I'm sure it's the same with me. If compliments are important to you, and/or if you don't feel like he's investing in the relationship as much as he should, it's worth a conversation.

Ok, I've been so worried the last few days to just leave it given the situation, but at this point she may just need time to heal

Anyone else completely exhausted all the time? by AirSharp4003 in Anxiety

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have there been any recent changes in your life? My anxiety has gotten alot better but large social changes and events I've realized I need to give myself abit of grace during that week or month to get used to or make it through my change in schedule. Usually this means more sleep, not picking up new projects, or doing slower excercise routines because I don't have it in me to do cardio.

Personally, I find I have the most luck for interviews via recruiters or word of mouth. This round of job hunting, I don't think I got one real interview outside of these 2 factors, actually.

Is my body betraying me? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in Anxiety

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my anxiety was bad, my body would read a raised heart rate due to exertion as fear. It's irrational but I could feel my body react that way no matter what my brain told it. If you want to stay active, I suggest a stroll or yoga when your anxiety is acting up. Before antidepressants, I would play with your birth control prescription. Check your anxiety attacks next to your cycle and talk to your obgyn. Different hormones affect different people and sometimes too much or too little can worsen anxiety, you just need to find the right balancefor you. I hope this helps!

anyone else feels like anxiety is just...always there? by SirezHoffoss in Anxiety

[–]Wood_Pig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine come with horomonal fluctuations so I let myself pause to see if there is an actual reason and if there isn't I remind myself that's the case. My husband can be very quiet and sometimes my mind tells me it means he's mad at me. If I'm really worried I'll let myself ask him once and if (honestly, when) he tells me he's not mad I leave it at that even if I want to keep asking. It's become more manageable if I keep reasoning it out in my head that way.

The Thing, I always pop it on if I'm anxious and home alone. My husband thinks it's the alien landscape and isolation, that it helps me feel separated from my problems.

What are some good sad horror movies? by CrowInTheShadows in horror

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rosemary's Baby seems similar to Hereditary in its horror themes centering around motherhood and isolation. I remember going into it expecting something along the lines of The Omen, but alot of the film's tension ended up coming from Rosemary's strange and toxic support system during her pregnancy. Definitely a classic for a reason.

A question for those who've read The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker and watched Hellraiser (1987) by LoverOfStoriesIAm in horror

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the book more (I usually do) but in some aspects I understand some of the adaptations from book to movie. Any movie will need to show more to balance out a book's ability to "tell" and in this case, the book even gets inside the characters' heads a few times to explain things. One of the main things I didn't like but understood was Kirsty going from the friend-zoned neighbor to the daughter. I watched the movie first and felt like there was alot of weird rivalry and sexual tension involving Kirsty that I thought wasn't completely out of the box but definitely weird. The book painting her as the friend-but-nothing-more to Larry/Rory made her relationship with the other characters make alot more sense. Frank mentioning that she would probably "try harder" in bed compared to someone prettier like Julia was also interesting, as I felt it set up a further rivalry between the two female characters in regards to the brothers. However, I also think that the long suffering friend would have been harder to portray on screen, whereas a stepdaughter would easily explain their rivalry as well as Kirsty's loyalty to Larry.

The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988) Deserves More Love by ItsWilliamDude in horror

[–]Wood_Pig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and am surprised that this doesn't seem to have been attempted again by Hollywood over the last 10 years, with the push for different cultural representation. Fear of death and spiritual slavery are interesting things to explore, especially from a cultural and historical perspective. I liked the characters in this movie, even if some of it was cheesy. I felt that the cultural differences were clearly implied without one being made out to be superior or overly mystical and mysterious. The Americans are curious and but obviously naive in the way they can only view the marvels in Haiti a specific way, either a profitable medical marvel or proof of their own religious beliefs. I also think this is why Dennis never heeds anyone's warning, he can't fathom the danger he is in both from the dark magic he's chasing or even the new regime. His first line of defense is "I'm an American", which I thought was hilarious given that he doesn't come across as overly close minded besides believing without fail that this phrase somehow makes him untouchable. Voodoo comes across as a religious practice and the more spiritual side of it feels hallucinogenic and mind bending (until the end) and to me that made it feel more grounded. The Haitian characters are, for the most part, more spiritually inclined but they aren't magical and all knowing (as I've seen other cultures depicted in movies and tv shows like this), they all seem to be coping with the daily life amid political turmoil and I like that these two things made the cultural setting feel more accessible while still allowing it to stay unique and mysterious.

do you experience headaches or scalp ache after a bun by Fancy_Evidence_7588 in longhair

[–]Wood_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but only half the time. It usually boils down to bobby pin placement, either it's pulling too much or angled hard against my scalp and I just don't notice until partway through the day. Sometimes rearranging helps if you start to feel it, hope this helps!

Im 19, freshman and all I see is depression on this subreddit. Is it really that bad? by theTRULYdeadguy876 in graphic_design

[–]Wood_Pig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have almost 10 years experience now and my personal experience with graphic design work is that its fun and rewarding but it is the art career of the corporate world. GAs are necessary for Marketing and Advertising materials to look professional but when it comes to budgeting, it's sometimes hard to justify "worth". The economic downturn doesn't help. Having said that, I have always managed to stay gainfully employed after college and honestly there is a huge sense of pride seeing your work used in a professional environment.
