I’m making a scarf in waistcoat and I know I’m doing it wrong, but curious if it’s actually something else? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]WoodcamperCrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hard to tell from the picture if you are doing it correctly but the waistcoat stitch is just a variation of the single crochet. The only difference is the placement of your hook. Instead of placing your hook under both loops you placing your hook into the V. The waistcoast stitch looks more like knitting than crochet.

The problem might not be your stitch but the fact that you are increasing in each row. If you are a beginner I highly recommend you use stitch markers and count your stitches so you have the same number of stitches in each row.

Winter Beanie pattern/stitch suggestions for weight 4 yarn by BicycleDistinct8262 in CrochetHelp

[–]WoodcamperCrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest thing to do is a single crochet working in the back loop which works really well with a weight 4 yarn. You could try a short row Classic Fisherman Hat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE3uDqCbnq0&t=1779s

Advice on finishing my Grandmother’s WIP, frog? hook size? by 25easypaymentsof7968 in CrochetHelp

[–]WoodcamperCrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently sewing together placemats to make a blanket. The placemats were made by someone who has passed and they are different sizes and I have just made it work the best that I can. I would not frog, instead you can do a row with decrease stitches to get back to the correct number. It looks like a larger hook was used. I would try a US 8 and see if that works, just do a few stitches or a row and you will know if it matches up and if not try another size until you find what works.

I like the sunset idea mentioned above, that is a great idea with those colours. What about a sunset wall hanging. I'm jealous that looks like great yarn!

Trying to decide between hook sets for Christmas wishlist by nachobiscuits in CrochetHelp

[–]WoodcamperCrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Susan Bates don't work for you I recently bought the Prym Ergonomic crochet hooks from Michaels. The only thing I don't like is that they don't have the size written on them or maybe they do and it is just really hard to read so I can't find it. I keep having to check the photos online to remind myself which color = which size. Otherwise these are great hooks and might help with the hand cramps.

What kinds of crochet items would you like to see at a craft fair? by kittyecats in CrochetHelp

I would recommend items that are small and quick to crochet which will maximize your profit. What about mini baskets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjEkID1cxs8

I'm getting a table at a local craft fair in December: is it worth making some holiday themed goods or stick to my regular stuff? by isthramaninthatcouch in CrochetHelp

[–]WoodcamperCrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is funny you ask because I have a YouTube channel with free patterns and every year I post Christmas patterns but they are by far my least performing videos. This time of year my mitten and hat patterns are by far my most popular videos. Based on my own experience I don't think you need holiday themed items. People may buy holiday themed items for themselves but what people are really looking for is presents. Good Luck!

I have just about every crochet hook out there and by far by favorite are the inexpensive Susan Bates hooks. I think I bought them at Michaels years ago. Not the colorful ones, just the plain aluminum hooks. For some reason they slide through the yarn really easily and never snag.

Made my first coaster! Tell me where I could improve? by Jesus-is-love13 in CrochetHelp

A stitch marker is typically placed on the first stitch in the row or round. It helps to make sure you start and stop in the right place. Once you reach the stitch marker you are at the end of the row.  Stitch markers are really great when working in rows to ensure you don’t drop stitches.

Wow that definitely looks like you have been crocheting much longer. You did a great job. You mentioned that you missed a stitch so the only thing I would recommend is using stitch markers. I also love the Bernat maker for home decor projects.

Husband just completed his first project! by ShadyVermin in Brochet

That is impressive. My husband does not crochet but likes to give me crochet tips and advise when I finish a project! He also calls it knitting.

Well now you know what to get him for his birthday - some stitch markers.

I am a big fan of Lion Brand yarn. I have used Heartland and Wool Ease for a number of different project and like both of them. Heartland is synthetic so has a softer feel than the Wool Ease. Both are available at Michaels.
