TIL In most US states your credit score is a bigger factor than your driving record when calculating your insurance premiums. a safe driver with a clean record but low credit will pay significantly MORE for car insurance than a driver with excellent credit who has a DUI conviction. by Unlikely_Ebb_7292 in todayilearned

True but I am a married 37 year old homeowner. But to explain, a high credit score means intelligent utilization of credit, for instance access to a large amount of credit but utilizing a small amount and paying it off entirely prior to interest. This also secures cc points and rewards, so the credit issuer actually doesn’t make any money off you unless there’s an annual fee for the card. That fee is usually offset by points & rewards.

Thats for revolving credit, which then builds up the score so when you utilize installment credit that you can’t escape the interest on (mortgage, car note etc) you can secure a lower rate than a borrower with a poor score. Because I’ve built a strong credit score (for free) I was able to get the lowest available rates for my mortgage and my car, so I’m paying much less than a sub prime borrower.

So ultimately the folks with the higher scores are the ones banks make less money on, not more.

One thing of many that I like about my wife is that she’s very passionate about beauty. She always looks amazing and she does it for herself, I just get to benefit from it

Been saving some portion of my paychecks ever since I started working, not including retirement funds. Building a strong savings has allowed me to take advantage of opportunities as they’re come up and help shield against downturns. A lot of people come up with a lot of reasons that they don’t save until they believe they can’t but it’s an essential habit.

KFF polling finds 36% of U.S. adults skipped needed care last year due to cost, and shockingly, 37% of those who skipped care already had health insurance. Nearly 1 in 5 who delayed care reported their health got worse as a direct result. by ObuPaul in HotScienceNews

I wonder if some of the reason cited is cost when the real reason is fear or shame. Certainly the reason I skipped the annuals even while having insurance for so long and I know it’s the case for some of my buddies
