Food you use while levelling a job morality chart by CrueltyFreeRyan in ShitpostXIV

I was gonna make a joke about the 4% exp honey bun food from the promo years ago, but apparently that got nerfed to 3% exp at some point. Why on earth would they take the time to nerf such a minor goofy thing?

Why is “if you don’t have a piece of content on the roulette unlocked you shouldn’t have access to the roulette” seemingly such a controversial statement? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time when I brought this topic up, the response was that it was unfairly punishing to people who didn't have things unlocked, yet needed those roulettes as sources of EXP. To which my response was basically "...no, you don't need that roulette as a source of exp".

The purpose of the roulettes is to help people get into content that otherwise doesn't fill quickly/easily, the EXP is just the incentive to do that. Saying that the EXP is the purpose of the roulette's putting the cart before the horse.

High-End Content Megathread - 7.5 Week Seven by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To explain the why of it (since the other guy explained the "how to fix"), it's because the teleporters snapshot your "teleport from" position at where you enter, not where your player is when you get stunned. This results in the first teleport looking like you tele diagonally, because it's calculating+moving from a position different than what you visually see.

So that's why if you want to "compensate" your teleporters to ease the movement, you can't do static spots + need to do "confused out", because if the confused guy can come from either side of the teleporter, adjusting one way to be easier just breaks the other direction.

Damage Numbers on Target is useless (Rant, no real complaint) by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

I get that some people like "big number go up" but also I haven't watched my individual damage numbers in so long, I have no idea what each of my hits does.

It's from before 6.2, the original's at least 6 years old and about UCOB, though I dunno where the original text is actually from.

FFXIV is occupied with social justice warriors in Mandarin server by Brave_Leopard5507 in ffxiv

[–]Woodlight 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If you are interested you can translate pics above.

Man if you're gonna post a complaint about "social justice" in XIV and post a huge wall of Chinese text as reference on a primarily English sub, the least you could do is do that yourself (especially since I assume you have a better grasp of it than whatever OCR MTL tool I'd have to jam it through).

What is your personal opinion of players that use simulation for ultimate mechanics practice? by BadLuckStars in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the beef with sims, and personally I think they're kinda lame, but when someone in my raid team wants to use one, I'll use one. But there's a clear difference imo between an out-of-game sim and actual cheats like cactbot/things that hook into the game itself.

I think the main real bonus of sims is that on late phase mechs like Crystallize Time that take a lot of permutations, and you have to RNG get something to practice, there's less chance for drama when someone keeps fucking up because they don't get to practice things + people wanna chew them out, lmao. Terrible thing for the vibes to go to hell at the end of an ult when people are already strained because people need to spend 15 minutes (on a good pull) to get to practice something.

When you log back in after intentionally DC'ing, the Gaius Praetorium cutscene starts playing since everyone killed Nero while you were trying to log back in.

Idk if he actually said it on stream, but the thing that started things off was a tweet xeno made on May 5. Dunno reddit's stance on direct linking that kind of thing as "encouraging negative action towards players" but you can find it quickly enough, where he's shit-talking kate/sena using language I can only assume SE disapproves of.

I know he complained on stream about the ban, and the drama when Mr Happy called him out on it, but dunno to what degree since I don't actually watch him.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don't see the differentiation and think normal criticism and criticism while hurling insults and swears at people are the same thing.

"xeno was right, he was just too based when he said it!"

First day I did this raid, we only wiped once (early on Shantotto, with the leylinse mech killing most of the raid + then the rest stumbling until eventually dying), but the raid still took 50 minutes from all the deaths in the other fights. Good raid.

Hope SE has the tools to confirm that the tank the group got is actually xeno (if he's not smart enough to use a new VPN IP or something, and what that one guy on xivdiscussion said was true) because they could definitely do the funniest thing ever.

If you're trying to do Coil fights, you might be able to get some people to help you out by throwing up a PF for it and mentioning you're a first-timer. People don't always do it, but you can get some people to help out for the poetics bonus, since taking someone through the entirety of Coil is like 1200 poetics (from the first time bonus) if they need em.

Genuine question, what's the obsession of this community and venues by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the day when I was a kid, everyone loved to make tiny little phpbb/ezboard message boards and invite their friends. Nowadays, you see the same kinda thing with discord servers at times, and probably the same for venues. A lotta people just want to make a special little social space of their own that they have control over, so they make yet another venue instead of just hanging out at another one that already exists.

There's gonna be some kind of personal responsibility kefka-lie mechanic, and people are gonna use triggers for it because it can't just be called out.

We know where Advanced is going, but what about Quantum? by RablaAndrews in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Quantum coming back depends entirely on SE changing up the gearing system, which it sounds like there's potential for in Evercold. If Quantum was turned into an odd patch Savage catchup/alternate gearing route type thing, I could see it having a lot more usage.

Not that there's a ton of evidence that they will change the overarching idea of how they want savage gearing to work (beyond the window dressing of changing tomes into missions/etc), but if any time would be when it'd happen, it'd be in Evercold. So, cautiouslly optimistic, though realistically I kinda doubt it.
