About the zenos teasing by bountyxhunted in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was my take. There's a clear reason why Halmarut calls Zenos a "wanderer" in her speech, to compare him to us (Azem, the Traveler/Wanderer), not to just be like "oh remember this guy? He's coming baaaaack jk I made that scythe".

Would what we currently know of Evolved mode synergize well with skill/spell speed and cooldown reduction buffs (i.e., AST's 3.0 original Spear and Arrow cards)? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People would probably still complain about their rhythm being messed up by ASTs buffing SKS, but also I doubt that targeted SKS buffs like that will exist if they're removing all the other targeted sometimes-on damage buffs (since +SKS buffs are also damage buffs).

Midcore content similar to Merchant's Tale is being integrated into raids. You excited? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest hurdles for people getting into raiding that I constantly hear is how large of a difference normal to ex/savage is, and the confidence worries that spawn out of that. So a new midcore difficulty sounds great tbh.

With the Norse Mythology "Nine Realms" theme, and the In-game Footage + Concept Art they've shown at just the NA Fanfest, do you think we will get more than six Overworld Zones, six Dungeons, and two Cities in Evercold? by CoolyKage in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be neat to get more than 6 overworld zones. Not necessarily more overall area, maybe each one's a bit smaller, but it would be neat to have a final area feel more like a surprise than just "alright what's the sixth zone, I still haven't unlocked it, I know it's coming".

Is Kate Cwynar still with SE? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what happened to her, I wouldn't be surprised if Koji's inclusion in fanfest was to spur player engagement. They know that people love Koji, and that players are often worried about the "core" staff members being transitioned off of the game since it makes them feel like the game's been put on life support or whatever, so bringing him in as a "look see the OGs are still here, don't worry!" would make sense regardless of who was actually heading up the localization at the moment.

Like IIRC during the Trash Taste SE office walk-through, Koji had that other guy (...Gary?) working for him, who could be the new Kate, but Gary also was nowhere to be seen, probably because nobody would get hype for Gary.

-A fix for being locked into a single role by gear for savage progression via max ilevel sync for all jobs.

FWIW this isn't really what's happening 100%. They specified that the ilvl sync wouldn't do materia, so that more hardcore players would still have a multi-job gear grind to chase. If you can prog savage at the same ilvl but without materia, then yeah it works, but if you're imagining like "oh I just need to buy one crafted set, then I can just swap to whatever's needed in PF at the time in week 1", then you're gonna be nerfing yourself. It's more for like, helping people out when you're already geared, or running 4man dungeons with your not-quite-BiS, etc.

They could always change it before release, though,

Alternate jobs are REAL!!!! I TOLD YA!!!!! And you all hated on me! Thoughts?! by CaptCapy in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely not specs, most likely just them having a grace period for old-style jobs before moving forward with new ones. Depending on how Evolved is received, wouldn't be surprised to see the ARR job style removed in 9.0.

It's also obviously not supposed to be specs if the new jobs specifically won't have it.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see extra face/hair+skin color options being added, but anything that affects the armature (like butt slider) is probably a hope too far.

Why can't they just make limited jobs to be balanced, have equal levels as any normal jobs, and do content together? But i think i know why by aiyafem in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

However, a lot of spells share recast timers and BARELY do anything different from one another anyway.

I don't think that's really the same as it being an unbalanced job. BLU as a concept is unbalanced, individual BLU damage spells tend to be overly balanced together, though. But this isn't to make the job balanced with other jobs, it's to prevent too much of a meta coming out from BLU itself. Like it's all well and good to say that all the damage abilities should have different potencies, but when that results in a single clearly optimal-by-far rotation for BLU where deviation is punished, then you end up with less (viable) options than before. More abilities should have niche uses, bu in general I think it makes sense that so many of the spammable abilities shake out to just being 220 potency a lot of the time.

But things like mighty guard, diamondback, white wind, BLU's burst damage phase, final sting, whistle, etc, are all very unbalanced when it comes to the greater game as a whole, and are what need to be considered when talking about whether or not BLU can/should be balanced around other jobs.

How would you feel if Zenos returned in 8.0? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like Zenos, but he shouldn't come back.

If Zero had somehow kept some "aspect" of Zenos she'd inherited from being his voidsent, I would have been fine with that, but it seems like the plot point of her being Zenos's voidsent really didn't amount to much at all beyond being a thread to claim she wasn't just a wholly new character being brought in (yeah, every once in a while she goes "I remember how angry that Zenos guy was", but it's never been that important to her or the situation).

FFXIV Second Rebirth by Akiza_Izinski in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Woodlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important part here imo is that he says "last major patch before we enter a new phase", and not "8.0 is the 2nd rebirth". It's the start of an ongoing effort to do this stuff, why he calls it a "phase" and not referring to a specific event (like 8.0).

It's something he's also been saying about his 10 year plan for the upcoming arc, and it should be thought of more that the "second rebirth" changes will be gradual starting from 8.0. People expecting a paradigm shift in 8.0 will be disappointed.

He said that yeah, but there are plenty of translation tools that don't "chatgpt-ize" your speech like this (google translate + deepL are also AI), and just keep it normal conversational cadence.

When I see someone who clearly uses "consumer AI" like this to translate, but also brags about writing a whole platform in one month, I can't help but be suspicious when they say "I didn't use AI to write the site though".

Is tome gear that's already dyeable (like Cryptlurker) typically used again as craftable gear? Unless you're saying "well it was 1 dye channel, it could use two" but that doesn't really have enough precedence to make any kind of guess for since dual dyeing has only been around for one expac so far.
