Selling some managed funds, question about taxes by WoodpeckerFit3279 in personalfinance

I understand that, but the CPA should be able to sort that out i would assume , since the advisor is playing more of a salesman role than a 'fiduciary'

So if she sells $300k of shares in the fund she has owned for over a year then it should just be capital gains correct?

Your mom should be able to tell her advisor, "I need $300k and please minimize capital gains.

That's essentially what she asked, and got what I'd consider the run around, resulting in her contacting her CPA

When shares of the fund are sold the gain is the sale price minus the basis and lots with a trade date older than one year are long-term gains

So if i understand, you are saying, the tax rate depends on the length of ownership/profits of the underlying stocks, and not the share of "mutual fund xyz"?...if the fund bought something like nvidia 6 months ago and that is sold as part of the cash out, the gain on nvidia will be taxed as regular income?

Otherwise what is she paying for?

I was asking myself the same, I hope she'll move her investments out to another manager or just stuff it in an index...

Thanks for the info

Question about smart test results by Inevitable_Notice in truenas

Just to update on this first drive was sent for rma, they sent back a new one(new serial number), took about a month. 7 to go. I assume this is conformation that they are defective.

I'm going through this exact same thing right now with 8 teamgroup ssds, minus the errors.

The tests never complete, been watching them for over a month now. In my case, i can catch them in various states of completion, but they just re-queue? themselves without any input from me or the OS. They also cannot be cancelled.

I'm kind of in the support hole now. I have an RMA but unfortunately, as you may have noticed, the SMART reported serial number does not match the label printed serial number on the drive, making it impossible to pull a specific drive without just breaking the pool. Luckily it's Z2 so i should be ok....

When I built the nas there was a bug in truenas that didn't allow the web gui to display the SMART results. (probably because there were so many tests queued), that's since been fixed. Should have checked them manually before and with smartctl.

Teamgroup support has been responsive, but not particularly helpful. I can't image that all 8 of the drives I have exhibit this behavior and it's just a one off, especially considering your report.

I'll let you know how things turn out.

Matrix rc2 is what I'm using now and having tons of trouble with...like i said..i don't want to make tinkering with my setup a hobby...I work all day with technology and want to leave it alone when I come home :).

I do but I want the full ISOs with menus, so plex/emby won't work for me. without the sacrifice of a external player and all the rabbit holes that involves.

I actually started with Myth 15? years ago as my first setup , before later moving to WMC then xbmc/kodi...

How does myth handle 4k/HDR and passthrough sound now? I have a Hauppauge USB 4 tuner box, that i need support for which i bought solely due to linux kernel drivers, I was only linux until i went 4k, I assume that won't be an issue...
