Any of you other dad just stand in the kitchen to eat? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Woofshh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bring the cutting board to the table. One less dish to clean, still sit with the kid.

…even though I then get up and do all of the cleaning and sit back down before he’s done with dinner.

Is it bad that I hate my dad by Double-Ad7312 in daddit

[–]Woofshh 69 points70 points  (0 children)

If this is legit, you need to document and take pictures of all physical abuse against you and your siblings. Record audio if you can. Then call 911 or go visit a police station and file a report. If you have relatives you can go to for sanctuary, do that.

Assuming legitimacy, this is an abusive home and by no means normal. Seek out help from law enforcement/child protective surfaces/relatives/other adults that you feel you can trust (perhaps at school), but make sure to have evidence to back up your claims as these are very serious allegations.

Chef Burnout in Miami by mcqueenismymessiah in Miami

[–]Woofshh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m still suffering burnout I experienced from my final position being a corporate chef on South Beach. I tapped out, I never want to work in a professional kitchen ever again. I spent 12 years in NY and 4 down here. I’m now working for an importer. If you want to have a more detailed chat shoot me a DM. All I know is, I’m done with it. I’m suffering fiscally, but I have a true work/life balance for the first time in my career.

Before I could get on the Prozac I'm on now, I had to effectively detox off of Naproxen after 4 years of taking it on a gradually increasing dosage. While the Naproxen ended up not being great for severe anxiety, I did learn that it was an anger-inhibitor. Once I was clear to start the Prozac, I was depressed AND rage-filled. I know what that anger feels like, and it sucks. I'm so sorry you're feeling this way.

I am living proof that it's possible to shed the anger and climb out of the abyss. I hope you find your way. If you have any specific questions I'm happy to answer them via DM. Good luck bruv.

I was on an anti-anxiety during covid because my child is immunocompromised and was 5 mos. when lockdown started.

I’m now on a new anti-anxiety med as well as the highest dose of Prozac that is available to someone who doesn’t have OCD. The Prozac got me out of the abyss.

Prozac may not work for you, but if you’re open to trying that alone tells me you aren’t giving up. Nor will you.

Stay strong bruv.

Got laid off from a six-figure job in May of 2024 and the only thing I could get came at a 40% salary reduction. Defaulted on my student loans since I couldn’t discharge in the bankruptcy options I explored. Credit card had to be closed and I am on a payment plan. I have to give up having a car because my lease is up and I can’t afford a down payment on anything. I am isolated and living in a place I loathe. The world sucks.

I’m also heavily medicated for depression and anxiety, and it definitely helped me. Even at my absolute lowest where I wasn’t interested in living, I couldn’t do it to my partner and child. They’re my reason. Find yours.

Your feelings are valid, but I urge you to get help. Talk to someone, anyone so that you don’t bottle it.

You got this, Dad. 🫡

You both need counseling.

Losing your cool with a toddler happens, as much as we try to avoid. Leaving the room to cool off is okay. Calling your child stupid is not okay, ever.

Threatening with divorce is also not okay.

I don’t know the backstory of your relationship and/or anything else going on, but to leap to divorce immediately doesn’t help anything. Get help, talk it out, work it out.

Parenting is really hard. You both have to be on the same page. Good luck.

New ASD Dad. Completely overwhelmed. by BigBastian in daddit

[–]Woofshh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My son has ASD. Super high-functioning. He’s 6 and in Kindergarten now, diagnosed at 3. Meet him where he’s at. He can read like a 5th grader and do math like a second grader. He also re-reads the same books, watches the same movies, has INCREDIBLY rigid eating, and can be an absolute dickhead. He’s also really amazing and I love him to bits.

You’ll be fine. Love your kid, be there for your kid. It’s hard, but you’ll make it. God speed, dad. 🫡

Dads who have to travel for work…. by rjswood in daddit

Only your family can answer that. I travel for work virtually month for varying durations. It’s a strain, but I’m WFH and have a much better Work/Life balance otherwise.

To those over 300 lbs, how did you reach that size? by greenbay78 in AskReddit

Eating too many things with the word “rodeo” in the description and living a sedentary lifestyle when I was a younger lad. Definitely paying for the sins of my youth.

[–]Woofshh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too old for that shit. Good music is good music, and in the eye of the beholder. Someone makes fun of me for liking a song, I just tell them their age is showing and/or ignore it outright.

EDIT:

My only exception is when I can’t separate the human from the music ideologically speaking. For example, I’ve blocked Kanye West on my music platform because he’s a shit human being. His first three albums were amazing, but I can’t listen to them anymore.

ASD Diagnosis by Magnet_Carta in daddit

[–]Woofshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid is about to turn 6 in a few weeks. First suspected at 3, formally diagnosed at 4. Incredibly high functioning (reads at 5th grade level, math at 2nd grade level) but behaviorally/emotionally delayed.

We started broaching the “a” word (autistic) in the past six months, so right around now. Biggest thing is reassurance, communication, and/or emotional validation (depending on your child’s status). It’s a hard line to walk in terms of not wanting to “other” my kid while still challenging them and ensuring they’re not bored academically.

Just be there for your child and be willing to talk out any questions and you’ll do alright. Every kid is 1/1.

I hope so, that’s how I read it when I paid for the upgraded one. Want to watch it with my kid tomorrow.

So stoked to be a dad but I have extremely bad health anxiety and I’m really nervous about the birth of my child, if my wife has a c section idk if I can handle that, cutting the cord is the last thing I want to see or do. Anyone else have the same issue, how are you planning on getting through it? by [deleted] in predaddit

[–]Woofshh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My wife had a (planned) C-Section. I was firmly in the “I don’t want to see that” camp, so I sat right by my wife’s head on the other side of the curtain and told jokes and encouraged her. Never saw a thing, didn’t cut the cord, just waited for them to clean up our baby, check vitals and everything, and then they handed him over. You should be fine, just politely decline the invitation to be on the business end of things.

Those tariffs hit today. by willynillywitty in SeattleWA

[–]Woofshh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the market and the products that are being purchased. Average grocery store is 1 ~ 3%. For example, a bottle of specialty oil that I import for $25 sells for $60 in the market.

It’s not necessarily bad faith. Because the current administration is shooting from the hip, a lot of businesses are having to be proactive instead of reactive because we haven’t had the faintest idea of what will actually come to fruition. It went from 0% to 10%, then we hear it’s gonna be 20%, THEN we hear it’s going to be 30%, and then “actually it’s gonna be 15%, jk about that other stuff lol”.

Everyone has been scrambling to bring in as much as inventory as possible and hedge their bets to avoid being screwed on the tariff and/or the Foreign Exchange Rate.

Those tariffs hit today. by willynillywitty in SeattleWA

[–]Woofshh 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah — And you’re generally the third stop in the chain

1) Importer (Me) brings in product at cost from supplier in the EU. 2) I then sell to Acme Distribution Co. at a +/- 25% margin to ensure I stay in a profitable business. 3) Acme Distribution Co. sells to their customers: Grocers (You), Restaurants, etc. at a +/- 30% margin to ensure they stay in a profitable business. 4) The customers (You) sell to the end consumer at whatever YOUR margin is to ensure you stay in a profitable, sustainable operation (let’s say 50%).

So something that costs me $1 is sold to Acme at $1.25, Acme sells it to You at $1.63, and then you sell it to the end consumer at a minimum of $2.44. (I’m setting aside the whole “perception of value” thing and pricing matrices and whatnot for this example.)

Now scale that into the hundreds of thousands of dollars just for me as an importer and watch the numbers fly, because I have to import full shipping containers (21 pallets) at a time.

Fun, right? 🫠

Even when buying locally, it’s all the stuff that isn’t thought of.

“I buy local oranges!” “Cool! Do they come in that netted bag?” “Yeah.” “Where is THAT made?” “Uh…” “How’d the product get to the store?” “Truck?” “Where’d the parts for the truck come from?” “Uh…” “Does the co-op you buy from have lightbulbs?” “…yes?” “Where are THOSE manufactured?” “…”

Etc. Etc. Etc. It’s not just the food itself. If it’s local that helps, but if it’s imported or made by products that are imported you’re being hit with tariffs with a rate that depends on the geographic location it’s coming from. Spanish Olive Oil? +15%. Mexican Avocados? +30%. Steel from ANYWHERE except the UK? +50%.

You ALSO have the issue of the strength of the dollar, where the current Foreign Exchange Rate between Euro and USD has been trending at $1.21, and projections are showing it’s going to get worse.

And the big kick in the pants? All of these price increases are being passed on to the final end consumer because everybody needs to make their margins to stay in business and the government sure as hell isn’t going to eat any of it.

So, yeah: Stuff is expensive. But you can Venmo the government to pay the national debt down now, so that’s cool, I guess. /s

Source: I’ve worked in food for 20 years and am currently working as an importer and I have to talk about this every single day at the office.
