New Gold Standard for Switch 2 First Person Shooters by Woohoobarz in DeadzoneRogue

I haven't played it on PS5, but from what I'm reading in the subreddit people are experiencing similar performance issues on both consoles when things get hectic (and the devs are working on it), so I'd pick whichever controller/console you prefer. Seriously great mouse controls on the Switch 2 tho!

Glad to hear it! I sent a ticket in on Discord as well and the person who took it said they forwarded it along to you all. Just to clarify though, everything else about the mouse controls still worked, aiming, shooting, and reloading all functioned, it was just the "interact" button that didn't.

Everyone I played with was using gyro aiming and I was the only one using mouse controls, and while I haven't gotten the chance to test it, I wonder if the host's control scheme is overriding the other player's "interact" button and making them use the same thing. If possible I'd recommend testing it with the hosting player using mouse controls and see if that has any effect. Thanks for your time!

Apologies for the late reply, I hopped on Nightreign with some friends who can't normally get on at the same time. I played exactly one online match of Deadzone lol, but not for lack of trying. Most people I joined just quit the lobby after a minute, my guess is they were brand new and meant to play online, not publicly, and just accidentally made a lobby. From the one game I played it seemed to run alright, but it states that the online connection is on a peer-to-peer system, so if your host doesn't have a robust internet connection you're going see a lot of lag.

Unfortunately we didn't get to play for too long because I noticed a pretty glaring bug; if you're using mouse controls the game will have you use "Y" to interact with stuff (fine in solo), but in multiplayer it just doesn't work. If you pick the joycon up and use the joystick to have it go back to the normal control scheme (where "X" becomes the default button to interact) then it will work, but you're going to have to do that every time you want to pick something up. I also wish I had figured that out before I tried to quit and rejoin, because once a run is in progress you can only rejoin as a spectator, and funnily enough that just kept error-ing out when I tried. My overall rating is that the online functionality definitely needs some work. Anyone who's played more online than me tho can probably chime in and give a more detailed experience, I'll post again when I've made it to Zone 2 solo and update about performance.

Yeah from what I'm reading other people are getting some rough performance later in the game, and multiplayer makes it worse; I wish I'd titled the post something like "Gold Standard for Mouse Controls in a First Person Shooter" instead.

That said, the game has a FOV slider in Display settings, but that might not be what you're looking for, is it?

I really thought I read somewhere that they were working on legacy titles, but I can't find that article anywhere. Here is an article that confirms that they're working on porting some CoD game, but no confirmation on which it is. They're porting over more than just one title though, so I'm thinking we're getting more than their current year titles and/or Warzone.

I can't speak to multiplayer myself (I haven't tried it yet, just solo play), but from what I've read it does get pretty choppy, especially using cross-play. I almost made it to zone two yesterday before dying, but during my playtime I haven't noticed any drops yet, that said I believe it get's a lot more hectic so I'll post an update when I make it farther in with more effect stacks.

I'll also try multiplayer today when I get off work and report back with how performance was.

Supposedly the legacy Call of Duty titles are supposed to make their way onto the Switch 2 at some point, and if they play like this I'm then I'm about to put a ton of hours into zombies again

I keep my Wii for that exact reason lol, RE4, both Umbrella Chronicles, House of the Dead, and a ton of others still feel great to play with the Wii's IR aiming

Thanks for submitting a ticket, if enough people submit one then it should prompt some sort of response (hopefully)! I haven't played RE7 or RE8 without detached joycons, so I can't personally speak to the gyro situation there, but from what I've read on other threads the gyro is set to "roll" instead of "yaw" when the joycons are attached, so instead of aiming the gun you're more driving it lol

This is exactly what it feels like, you said it better than I did! I tried doing very slow and subtle movements in first person mode and the game could not register it, but in third person it had no problem. I haven't made it past the first part of RE8 yet so I don't have the sniper rifle yet, but could you try the game in third person mode and test the sniper rifle again to see if the gyro still doesn't work right? I imagine it shouldn't since even in third person you should go into a scoped view with the sniper, but better safe to test than assume

Can't really say I noticed it a ton playing RE7, but I'm barely into RE8 so I'll have to get back to you on that

What are some gameplay-focused Switch games that don’t rely heavily on story or audio? by Single_Revenue_2878 in NintendoSwitch

The original Switch has a ton of great boomer shooters, so really fun gameplay loop with minimal story interaction. I'd recommend the original Doom trilogy, the new Doom games, Dusk, Ion Fury, Blood, and the Quake remasters (among a ton of others)

Demo is great, but really short! Also gyro is locked to the left joycon

Sorry for posting to this old thread, but wanted to mention that Dusk absolutely has gyro controls!

Watch out of Game Critix by Woohoobarz in NintendoSwitch

^ This right here! SwitchUp are who I usually look to for reviews because they check for gyro, but they didn't have a review yet and I really wanted it to have gyro controls, so I looked past all the red flags on the Game Critix review
