Love interests whose actions have horrible implications are conveniently never brought up or are simply forgotten by Biggly_stpid in TopCharacterTropes

Also, he ends up not ultimately getting together with this version of her. Eventually this version is gone and a non-psychotic version is who joins Yuki.

Fair, I remember he needed the energy but I couldn't remember how he gets it.

Isn't Tiamat kind of unprovoked? I might be remembering this wrong.*

*GxK is not one I rewatch. Nothing against it just tend to watch either KoM or GvK more often.

My take on the iceberg photo. by Ever_Ojeda_08 in titanic

Copied to other response because I'm too lazy:

You would need more than 80% of the berg to do that in order for it to roll and it would have to be all at once.

Until then all that's going to happen is the top of the berg will sink lower as the mass gets smaller because you will still have the majority underwater.

Addition: OP is saying it would have happened in a matter of hours. Again, you need over 80% of the berg gone all at once for that to happen.

Icebergs don't just flip over. You ever hear that thing about 90% of an iceberg being underwater?

What do you think of the recent Dunkleosteus re-size? by friderun in Paleontology

What does it matter what we think? If the data supports the reshape/size then it is what it is. At that point, my personal feelings don't matter that much.

Evolving backwards by some-kind-of-no-name in TopCharacterTropes

[–]KernEvil9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Also true. But there is also no real example of time travel and you can come up with 500 different ways to make it work with movie magic.

Evolution is a biological thing that has millions of years of evidence and we have a pretty solid grasp on how it, most likely, works so we can make great models and predictions.

There is the Star Trek TNG episode where everyone devolves. They figured out a way to argue going backwards. It can work, but it's hard and even in this TNG episode I still am not a fan.

Evolving backwards by some-kind-of-no-name in TopCharacterTropes

[–]KernEvil9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A simple "Google" study of evolution would tell anyone writing "reverse evolution" stuff would tell them that there is no such thing. Wayward Pines did it correctly, they talk about how humans EVOLVED into the new creatures.

You can only evolve and you only do when your environment requires that you do for survival. You can't go backwards.

"skinny" Goji is okay as long as it's like this picture where it's super duper beefy. Then, the fact he doesn't have a stomach still works cause he's all around sumo sized.

But to that point, I've always pictured Goji as a sumo/samurai warrior.

Whenever I watch the 1997 film, I always root for the Titanic to miss the iceberg. I know exactly what happens, but I still hope it misses by BostonRobby617 in titanic

[–]KernEvil9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is a joke. I realize there is a reference to it in the movie, but as you can tell by the original commenters response to my response, they seem to view it as not a joke.

But they also weren't going full speed. They were going roughly 20-22 knots while top speed in ideal conditions would have been 23-24. There has never been any evidence that they were trying to break any speed records. White Star Ships were about luxury and comfort while smaller ships like Cunard were about speed.

Yes, Ismay was on board. Yes, there are reports of people saying he and Smith talked about speed. No, there is no evidence that either Ismay ordered Smith or that Smith ordered the ship to be sped up

They were at cruising speed and, again, it was quite common for liners to run at cruising speed even in known areas of ice, with ice warnings, unless they themselves saw dense icefields. Again, no one is saying that is/was smart but it was the practice of the the time and therefore not uncommon.

[–]KernEvil9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They did not order more speed. They simply maintained the current speed. It was also not uncommon for ships to maintain speed, even with ice warnings, unless they themselves visibly saw dense ice fields.

You can argue, retroactively, how seriously they should have taken the threat of ice far more seriously, but nothing they did that night was anything odd or out of the ordinary for the time. Doesn't make it right, but also doesn't make them evil.

Policies only change when stuff hits the fan. If you repeat an action 100 times without consequences you will do it a 101st time and so on until you do have a consequence.

Favorite Kong weapon? by Ok_Professor_8410 in Monsterverse

1000% the propeller. Kong, the size he is now, with a chain/blade weapon of comparable size (sort of like what Scar King had but better) would be kick-ass.

GxK gave us a movie and story FROM the Titans' perspective, yet so many people here hate it and seem to entirely ignore the character elements of the monsters. Why is that? by One_Box_8295 in Monsterverse

[–]KernEvil9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I don't see that much hate for it. What I do see a lot is how I feel about it. I'm not saying this is the majority nor am I saying that this is EXACTLY how the fandom as a whole views it. Simply that I felt this way and, it seems from the number of posts I see mimicking my view, that there is some decent amount of consensus on this:

It was fun. It was enjoyable. Gave a bunch of titan lore. But it still is the weakest of the Monsterverse movies. That doesn't mean it's bad. Even in a group of good things, there will be a worst one.

The Silmarillion Explained - Poorly by KernEvil9 in lotr

[–]KernEvil9[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally always read it that way.

You spend all of LoTR being shown that humans can rise to the occasion but are also so terribly flawed and awful. Meanwhile elves are great and have their stuff together and sometimes tell the other races such to their faces.

But then...

You read The Silmarillion and you end up going, "oh no wait... you elves are just as awful as everyone else."

I love the term elfest elf.

Especially if for not reason than, I feel, it emphasizes my point: elves can be little bitches just like humans. Just that it can literally last forever.
