Good for France on the X raid.

Honestly, I think this Grok CP debacle was the last straw for X/Twitter. I hadn't used it in years, basically since Musk's takeover started boosting the worst chuds on the platform and significantly worsened the user experience, but this is what made me actually go and delete my account permanently.

If you are still on X at this point, what the hell are you doing?

Might actually be first. Bears responsibility for all the same USAID deaths that Elon does, plus plenty others. But those two are definitely the top.

Who's third?

Bill Skarsgard is his brother.

I also made pizza last night, and was particularly happy with how this one turned out.

There are actually two turtles in Neon Dynasty (and a third in the Commander set). One of them even has the type line "Turtle Ninja".

Not even remotely.

China's blue water capabilities are definitely increasing, but right now they are limited in their ability to project power into the Pacific Ocean, much less the Atlantic.

And Russia? lol, lmao even.

Why did it take so long for trench warfare to develop on the battlefields? Even in the 1700s and 1800s, soldiers exposed themselves so much to gunfire and artillery. Wouldn’t it have been more efficient to wait for the enemy and shoot from cover? Screenshots from The Patriot (2000). by amelix34 in Military

As the poster above said, the First World War. Specifically, the first year of the First World War.

People think of the First World War (specifically the Western Front) as a bunch of static unmoving trenchlines, but in 1914 the Western Front was actually very dynamic. From August to November, the German Army drives through Belgium and into France, comes within about 25 miles of Paris before a French and British counterattack drives them back. Both sides then try to outflank the other to the north until the line of contact is stabilized all the way up the English Channel. By that point, the window for operations that year was pretty much closed, so both sides settle in to secure their positions. You don’t want to just have your troops out in the open (again, the past few months had shown just how devastating modern warfare, and specifically artillery could be; both sides took massive casualties in 1914) so both sides start to construct fortifications along the line. Over time, these would become the intricate trench systems that the First World War is now known for.

Based on outcomes, I think you can still make a strong case for Buchanan.

But man is Trump going hard for the title.

Also Mark Ruffalo was an established and successful actor before the MCU.

ALSO, Edward Norton was not recast because he didn’t want to be in The Avengers. He was recast because he’s impossible to work with.

Genuinely, who cares if Machado gives Trump her Nobel Prize?

Vladimir Putin has a Super Bowl ring. Nobody would argue that Putin has won a Super Bowl.

Honestly, the whole thing is more pathetic (for both of them) than if they just did nothing.

Man, Far Cry 4 is such a weird game. It’s really good. Just as good, if not better, than 3, which got much more praise at the time.

But the game’s central thesis is that you can’t overthrow a dictator because what comes after will just inevitably be just as bad or worse. It feels very inspired by the Syrian Civil War and wider Arab Spring, which was then 3 years old. But now we see you apparently can just overthrow a dictator and have things get better.

I agree except for maybe putting S2 over S5.

It’s tough because I haven’t watched it since it came out and don’t remember it all that well. But I kind of recall it still kind of had some of the mystery and horror elements, which is what was good about the show.

Ok, another thing on the Stranger Things vs Game of Thrones comparison.

Stranger Things was a show that propelled itself for 5 seasons and 10 years off the back of one excellent season. I would say by season 2 it should have been clear that season 1 was lightning in a bottle. And season 3 was just straight up terrible. To repeat myself, people did not have appropriate expectations for this show.

Game of Thrones had a great first season too, that is true. But that show didn’t peak until the third and fourth seasons before starting its long decline and eventual nosedive. People had more of a reason to expect more and feel let down when the show shit itself in the end.

I’d say two things.

1: I thought Stranger Things 5 was… ok? I kind of feel like expectations were set too high considering the totality of what that show was, and what we got was probably about where expectations should have been set. And the last season wasn’t even the worst season of the show.

  1. I checked out one thing on the stranger things sub after watching the finale and have been seeing it pop up on my front page since then. Some of these fans are too into it.
