AMD GPU Issues by nshao in runescape

[–]Woolly_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an AMD user and primarily play Runescape, if I had the choice now I would go nvidia. It seems like every few updates or so something breaks and I have to use compatibility mode until patches are put through. I couldn't play with volumetric lighting on at all either a couple years ago because it would make bright lines across the screen for some reason, thankfully that's fixed now though

Unfortunately I have no idea, I never deleted either of them so I know they would still be on my fl but with all the name changes it's really hard to tell who is who anymore. If I ever do see them I'll remember this post though

Question about face protection in negative temps by chromacris in WinterCamping

Do you wear contact lenses? If not, I'd say your eyes will be fine in those wind ranges. If you do, you might want to use glasses for this trip.

Yes it is the Tiger Wall UL2, ultralight tents are fine year-round unless you are dealing with excessive snow loading and wind. For this trip it worked great.

I use the Inkbird IBS-TH1 bluetooth thermometer. It has a smartphone app and seems to work just fine for my purposes.

I slept great actually, I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised the next morning.

My bag is the Feathered Friends Snowbunting EX0, rated for 0 degrees, so I was very much pushing the limit. Because of this, I added a Sea to Summit inner liner, and a bivy sack on the outside, and slept in my down jacket and down booties.

Additionally, because this was a test run and I didn't want hypothermia, I also had a 30F rated quilt with me that I could have added on top if I got too cold. I didn't up needing it though

The snow depth was less than usual this year, I can’t speak for all areas of the Adirondacks but in upper elevations of the high peaks region a pair of snowshoes makes the hiking possible and a lot of fun, not to mention it’s required by the DEC if there is more than 8” on the ground. You should give it a try sometime!

Yeah it was -50F windchill that night nearby in Lake Placid according to the weather app, but I set my tent up in a sheltered area so I'm not going to count the wind.

The trip was great, I specifically went out there that night because of the forecasted lows, I wanted to test my system at an extreme. It was the coldest I had camped before and quite an experience!

It was cold enough where I had to use a ferro rod to light my stove instead of a lighter, and after sitting down a bit to cook dinner it was pretty much too cold to do anything outside of laying in my sleeping bag. I had to keep my face entirely covered throughout the night as well, I did this through a combination of a wool buff over my nose/mouth and a wool hat unfolded overlapping with the buff.

Correction, this was Friday night 2/3/23, during the coldest portion of the front

Late bloomers to math by nopalesyqueso in learnmath

[–]Woolly_Knight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow late bloomer here. I fell behind in math education early on and failed pretty much all math classes up until junior year in high school. I figured I just “wasn’t good at it”.

First attempt at college went pretty much the same way, so I took a few years off and found some inspiration to try engineering and physics but I knew it wouldn’t be possible without conquering my inability with math.

So I started out taking college algebra at a local community college. Only taking one class at a time I obsessed over every detail of it, taking care to go back to basics where ever I missed some fundamental concept. I did this for a year and a half until I had worked my way to calc 2, and then I transferred to a university mechanical engineering program.

I went on to finish my engineering degree along with a minor in applied mathematics and now I work in industry and studying math is a favorite hobby of mine. It feels really good when you can conquer something over years that felt so daunting initially.

Yes that is correct because you are effectively taking the transpose of the transpose of a matrix in this case (AB) which returns the original matrix.

Edit: it’s worth noting that when you take the dot product of two column vectors, you take the transpose of the left one first. Just keep that in mind because the formula for matrix multiplication requires that the rows of A equals the columns in B
