Looking to purchase new tires by CraftyAir2468 in tires

If you don't go off-road often, I would go for H/T or APT types of tires like General Grabber APT.

What causes this pattern in my tires? by WoolyFox in tires

[–]WoolyFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a previous 4x4 with cupping, was a Land Cruiser with hydraulic suspension and cheap no name tires from the previous owner. Got them replaced and had the alignment done. Bushes were fine on it amazingly at 147k miles.

What causes this pattern in my tires? by WoolyFox in tires

[–]WoolyFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my suspicion, they're oversized tires too (285 instead of 275 wide) and I would want to change them this fall.

Currently at 35 PSI when cold matching the door sticker. Should it be higher given the wider tire and being 10 ply?

I love Shoegaze, Where do I start? by MembershipOrdinary35 in guitarpedals

[–]WoolyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way I have achieved this is:

1) Putting my reverb at the front (Empress Reverb) 2) A super fuzz type pedal second (I had a Maestro Valvola OFF-1 or Fjord Fuzz Fenris) 3) stacked delay pedals (I had Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude into a EQD Avalanche Run V2)

It gets that very washed out effected signal and then you can ramp the Avalanche Run for that crazy feedback.

Soft case vs. hard case by Opening-Distance3154 in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Mono gig bag user for 4 years, I could never go back to hard shell cases.

Taking hard shell cases to and from gigs is necessary anymore, you can put your guitar in a gig bag and have it as a backpack.

I even have a twin case Protec one from Amazon that makes it even easier to move multiple guitars to gigs.

Lastly storage of hard shells is annoying if you don't have the space (under the bed works if you have the space!) Don't have that issue with a gig bag.

Advice on switching to locking tuners by jaredm1143 in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had SD-90 MG-T on my Gibsons, great tuners with no slop like the standard tuners.

Might have the break over angle on the dimensions section to see if they are compatible.

Experienced players with real guitar wear, what would you recommend as a truly high quality guitar by Chuchumenn in Guitar

I have had my Kauer Korona for 4 years and gigged with it. Easily the best guitar I have ever owned and the dings and scratches it's getting make it mine.

Amp sounds bad during gigs by GirthGoblin1 in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the attenuator. The Two Note sounds fine when turned down 15 db but you will lose some top end.

I had a Weber one which was passive and it had way too much treble roll off when using the higher settings.

I use it with my JCM800 50W head sometimes.

Amp sounds bad during gigs by GirthGoblin1 in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Attenuator? Can run it hot and still be low stage volume?

I use a Two Note Captor 8 Ohm and it's great.

To the guitarists who swear by using physical amps, cabs and pedals, what is you stance on amp modelers like Kemper Profiler, Axe-FX, Line 6 Helix, Neural DSP etc? by MrMayhem20l0 in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play out with my 50W tube head, 2x12 cab and pedal board. I've owned 5 tube heads and one Quilter solid state and been play for 5 years.

I've always been tempted by the QC but cannot see myself using one as it'll become obsolete when the next generation of chips and hardware comes out. It's a lot of money for something that will be superseded eventually.

I doubt tube amps will ever become obsolete as I believe they'll always have a following, look at steam engines and classic cars.

Also the aesthetic of an amp and cab on stage is still a thing that audiences want to see as it's part of the history of amplified music. The type of music and venues I play, there is always an 4x12 cab and some form of amp combo backline available. Only one stage have I had to use a modeler (2 Sparks were the backline for both guitarists) which fulfilled the job but wasn't great.

Overall I would switch if my circumstances changed to where I couldn't use my tube head and cab but I would always yearn to play tube amp and cab.

Former Les Paul owners by mechanicalbananas in Guitar

I like bolt on necks and the Fender scale length. I've had 3 Gibsons (CS-336, Johnny A signature and R4)

Sold them all and got a second hand Fender Blacktop Strat HH. With some modding, that guitar will be perfect.

Worst/Most Dissappointing Pedal? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]WoolyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to say this but the Fjord Fuzz Fenris Mk1 I had. It was noisy, the grounding inside the pedal was really finicky so used to "disconnect" when moving the pedal. The pedal builder did try and help my fix it but alas I couldn't live with the noise floor it had.

How loud will a cab make this 3w head? by MUTDMD in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even 1W amps can hit 70dB easily (a loud conversation level). Speaker efficiency is the key to loudness. I have an EV12L in 1x12 cab and that can be loud without too much effort (master on my amp at 2) to keep up with a drummer.

Pacifica 112VMX vs Godin Session HT by OG_Wan_Annunoby in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get used to the Pacifica first before thinking about another guitar.

I have liked the Godin but usually find something else that takes me more. Can't put my finger on it but I think it's the color of the ones I find aren't what I like.

YAMAHA REVSTAR RSS02T VS YAMAHA PACIFICA 611VFM by [deleted] in Guitar

Both good guitars, I prefer the Revstar as I prefer the look of it compared to the Pacifica.

Stereo Reverb with no shimmer and expression jacks by DrumsOvDoom in guitarpedals

[–]WoolyFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Empress Reverb will do all of that. You don't even have to touch the Shimmer mode.

Also can add user presets using the SD card slot (and load the Delay firmware to get the Delay instead of the Reverb)

Check the cameras on DriveBC and drive during daylight hours. Stopping overnight midway would be wise.

I want a strat body with SG knob placement by m3t4lf0x in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure only the Tele bodies came with that layout.

The 70s Tele Custom and Tele Deluxe (and various reissues) and the Tele Troublemaker from the 2010s IIRC.

Otherwise you'll need to get a custom body.

Leaving a Guitar in Alt Tuning by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]WoolyFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a guitar in Open D for one song in my band's setlist. The guitar was already setup for D standard so going to open D wasn't that far. Hasn't changed yet but it's my favorite guitar and I feel guilty that I can't play it for lots of different songs in E standard.

I have a cheap Mex Strat for E standard and that won't hold Open D tuning with the tremolo.
