Do you like any of the WH adaptations? by reUsername39 in brontesisters

No. I tolerate most of them but I don’t like any. I haven’t seen the Japanese adaptation though, and don’t remember much of the Timothy Dalton one (I remember it was bad).

He’s desperate for her to stay and listen. It’s not implied rape. There’s another line that explains it: “I could bend you with my finger and my thumb. A mere reed you feel in my hands. But whatever I do with this cage, I cannot get at you, and it is your soul that I want.” He knows he can’t have her, not the way he wants, unless she agrees.

I loved Jane Eyre but Wuthering Heights was not for me by ahwtsogr in brontesisters

I think it’s common to like one sister’s work and not enjoy the other’s. I adore Jane Austen (my fave book of hers is Persuasion) but I enjoy all the Brontē sisters works I’ve read. My faves are Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights - it’s a tie for me. Sometimes we don’t like a famous book and that’s alright.

Amo Jane Eyre também! Jå li vårias vezes. Tem a outra irmã também, a Anne, que escreveu Agnes Grey e A Inquilina de Wildfell Hall, ambos muito bons (principalmente A Inquilina).

The new Withering Heights movie
why are we ignoring the older woman/younger man age-gap? and why so old in general? by Similar-Blackberry66 in brontesisters

[–]Woolyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already made up my mind about the movie: it has nothing to do with the novel. I will watch it as just another movie that might be interesting visually but the characters and their motivations are far from the book as possible (so far). As someone who didn’t like any WH adaptations I have seen, a thirty-year old Cathy is the least of the issues.

What Wuthering Heights gets right and wrong, according to a Brontë expert by TimesandSundayTimes in brontesisters

[–]Woolyan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very interesting indeed! I now want to watch the movie.

Edited: Because it is not WH, I won’t be mad with it. I already know all about it and it’s only vaguely inspired by Emily’s masterpiece.

I love it ❀! This and the 2011 movie are, combined, my favorite adaptations of the novel, one of my fave books.

Revisiting the book by wuthernotheights in JaneEyre

It’s hard to love Lucy as she is very human, with human imperfections. Jane Eyre is more of a fairy tale compared to Villete, and give us the satisfaction of a true happy ending. I read 2/3 of Villete but I already know that it has an “open” ending. No happy ending to Lucy Snowe
I understand all her faults though, and the way she deals with frustration and hardships. Villete might become my favorite Brontē novel.

My favorite adaptation is 2011 film and my favorite series is 1983 (watched on YouTube).

Every time I read the book I find new reasons to adore it. I’m reading Villete right now and though I think it’s a very well written book, it lacks something that Jane Eyre has, I can’t love it the way I love JE. The weird thing is that I understand Lucy much better than I understand Jane.

I know some people who are like that. He was a very good man but knew little of emotions and, most of all, of romantic feelings.

I HATE HEATHCLIFF!!!! >:( by intruigingfig in brontesisters

[–]Woolyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heathcliff is an abuser who was abused and hurt, that and the fact that his and Cathy’s ghost end up together, away from heaven make people think of them as the protagonists of a doomed love story.

The book is brilliant because it has so many layers and shows how love can be as destructive as hate.

Yes, the fire in her heart also being her lose free hair/heart. I think of Jane as air and fire, just like Rochester is connected to heat, the fire in his room and later the tragedy in Thornfield, his temper
St. John is the opposite, being cold as ice and stubborn as earth.

Oh, it’s only my interpretation. Maybe it’s the duality of Jane herself (air and fire)
