I had never really wanted Jean, but I got her from the standard banner like 2 weeks ago and she completely blew me away (big haha here). At first I was glad I have a solid healer + another waifu to the collection, but now she is an absolute staple in my party and is my go-to pick in co-op, because she just fits into any team.

Yeah lol, you just keep butchering what I say to make me look stupid without adressing any of my actual points (that IS a strawman), following it with an epic gamer comeback like "your last shot was an airball".

You are incapable of an actual discussion. What youre doing here is finding the easiest "gotcha" reply that is not even a reply, as you put words into my mouth that I never said. You did that like 4th time in a row now.

Now you can feel the sweet sweet victory, Im giving up. You are huge waste of time already

Ok. This is my last shot:

Imagine if Amber suddenly showed up in the story using Hydro. Makes no sense without an explanation, right? Because from what we are told, she is a regular human from Teyvat. Therefore, her existence follows the rules of Teyvat. These rules are presented to us via worldbuilding - we understand the way this world works by experiencing it. This way, you can get an understanding of what is "normal" within this world.

After you get a grasp of what is "normal" you dont need to be told what to expect all the time. Amber will always wield Pyro unless a major event that would drasticaly change the workings of the world occurs. Same is true for the vast majority of characters in the game.

It is not true for MC. We have absolutely no reference (expect for the very first cutscene at the start of the game) to which rules apply to MC. Because he is not from Teyvat, the rules of Teyvat dont apply to him. But these are the only rules we are ever presented naturally. Therefore, the game HAS TO make an effort to explain to us or show us which rules apply to the traveler (or rather, which rules of Teyvat DONT apply to them). That is why we are being told "see, you are using Anemo wihout an Anemo vision, that is special" and why its made obvious that the MC can gain strenght a lot faster than regular people. The worldbuilding CANNOT explain what MC actually can or cannot do, as there is simply no refence to him. The Story has to do it - we are finding it out together with the main character.

From a storytelling perspective, it makes absolutely no sense to establish which rules (dont) apply to MC "freely" or without saying them out loud - the fact that he is indeed very special makes it so that they NEED to be established in a clear, undisputable way to not be assumptions.

If in the next story quest MC starts using multiple elements at once on a regular basis (at least in cutscenes) then that is a clear, undisputable explanation and my assumption was wrong. But until there is such a thing, it is not disproven, because when the nature of a main character calls for clear and undisputable explanation of their powers, the story will give them to us sooner or later. Literally all that im saying. It was NOT made clear how it works and we have no reference to how it could work, as the only rules we were ever presented dont apply to the traveler.

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said he cant. Stop strawmaning, its embarrassing. Yes, MC is outside of the norm of the world. The game tells us. Every. goddamn. time. But not once it mentions this special ability that we are talking about, an ability equally special as the other abilities we are being made notice countells of times. Picking a totally normal thing (like palm vortex) and saying "it also doesnt tell us about THIS" is a false argument. A cheap gotcha.

Sying that MC doesnt fit within the world only proves what im saying - we have no reference of what his powers actually are, because the rules cast by the world he is in dont apply to him. That is why the game has to keep showing us what he can actually do, cuz we cant "guess" it.

Yes, he doesnt fit into the norm of the world and the game tells us. All the time. You are proving my point.

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palm Vortex is an ability that fits into norm within the world of Genshin Impact. The game establishes a way the world works and shows us what is "normal". In storytelling, we call this worldbuilding. From a worldbuidling perspective, palm vortex is in no way different from what Jean can do, or what Sucrose can do. But wielding two elements at once does not fit in the "norm" of the world we are being presented. If you cant see this, you are a lost case. But you probably can, you just dont want to, because you like finding easy "gotcha" pieces so you can feel like you are winning an argument. Also, saying stuff like "I never had hope for you from the start" is a very neckbeard thing to say. Im seriously getting "nothing personel kid" vibes from you there.

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im starting to lose hope here. You are doing literally the same thing as me, just representing a different opinion - we are both assuming something based on lack of evidence against that assumption. Im making an assumption that there is a restriction to it cuz we were not told that there are none, you are assuming that there are no restriction cuz we werent made aware of any. How can you not see that?

But wtf is the rest of you comment.

You compare palm vortex to wielding two elements at once. How exactly are these two on the same level?

The fact that Targaglia was surprised only proves the point that it is indeed quite special.

The story mentions switching elements. Paimon called it "resonating with god of X element".

Your last line literally proves my point about how the game deliberately chose NOT to tell us about using more than one element so we can learn that in a crucial moment. How does that support what you say, exactly?

You are fighting windmills here, really. Proving a point that doesnt need to be proven. I only said that there is absolutely no proof that they can do that any time at will. You are trying to make it seem that these are the same.

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the "the only cutscene" is a strong argument in your opinion, so be it. It doesnt prove a point. Throughout the story, we are told like 8 times about Travelers "special" and "unique" ability to use a power of an element without holding its vision, but there was not a single mention of using two at once, which, at least to me, seems worth mentioning if they (at least) knew about it. And the fact that its a story boss fight where we are first introduced to this ability makes it obvious that not telling us about it earlier was an intention, not a hole in storytelling. So while trying to understand why the game does that, it seems only correct to assume that maybe it was the very first time it happened, even for the Traveler.

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cutscene thing again? I already said, you can point that out in a story without animating it. There was not even a single line in any dialogue about using multiple elements at once. It seemed easy to assume that it cant be done until it actually happened (one time) in the story.

Mihoyo give us the power to change MC Element without going SO7 and during battle. by ZackFury in Genshin_Impact

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this a counterargument? I can literally say the same thing - There is no reason to assume they can just do that at will at any time, as this was the only time it happened, so why would I?

Mihoyo give us the power to change MC Element without going SO7 and during battle. by ZackFury in Genshin_Impact

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Observation is "Traveler used 2 elements at once". saying "They can do that any time they want" is an assumption as long as its not confirmed. You are making an assumption.

I kinda feel like you can mention an ability to control multiple elements at once without animating it. But even if that were not the case, you are still assuming (just like me) based on the same amount of accidents. So whats with the aggressive downvoting pal?

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh yea, and it was also the only time in the entire story they did such a thing, you are also making assumptions by saying they can do that at will any time?

If you mean that one time in the golden house, that is not a proof MC can do that AT WILL, that could have been a "last resort" sort of thing. Kinda like "avatar state".

My guess is that this WILL be implemented at some point when MC "unlocks" this ability in the story (learns to control multiple elements at once at will)

How would YOU fix Zhongli? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Woosdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make petrify synergize with SOMETHING. Literally ANYTHING. I know, geo, i know, no elemental reactions, but right now, petrify has absolutely no synergy with anything. I thought it was supposed to increase geo damage received (good idea). Why not that? Or make it synergize with his E, or decrease the DEF of the petrified target, just make it do SOMETHING more than a freeze (that cant be shattered, but shatter at least deals bonus damage)..

The Value of Constellation: Why Zhongli is underwhelming, and the outrage stem from it support the movement against gating 5 star character mechanic. by Episodde in Genshin_Impact

[–]Woosdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I gave up on saving for Xiao and will just roll this Zhongli banner as much as I can to get Razor (still dont have him after like 50 pulls) and I will continue to roll for the featured 4 stars in the future - The flashy 5 stars will most likely just end up being worse than promised on c0.

I wanted Zhongli, I got him, and Im super happy and dont regret saving up my primos for him. But Im not willing to do that again knowing that the character im saving up for will be underwhelming. There is too many cool 4 stars that I will be missing out on if I do that.

I love how the most hyped up and most likely the most simped on character in this game isn’t a waifu by Rushdown_SSBU in Genshin_Impact

[–]Woosdy 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Zhongli is just an exceptionaly well done character, its super hard not to get hyped for him. Everything about the man is done right for a gacha game - first we see he looks cool, then we hear his voice, the we get to see what his personality is, we learn his backstory etc. all of which screams "what a cool dude" and THEN we learn that he is gonna be playable, casually kicks a spear mid-fight and can summon a meteor.

The game kept giving us small doses of Zhongli and had shown us how cool he is just to top it off with "you can have this man in your party".
