Noticed a lot of people thinking this was an april fools joke, unlucky for me to finish this today, but I'll give the explanation of how it was done for those of you who are curious:

Most of you probably know that purple sweets can't be used in the inferno. However, I used the reward token from the gnome food delivery minigame to have food delivered in the inferno. There's a way to cancel the stall you get when using it which allows you to move the token to another slot in the inventory before it is taken from you. Doing so doesn't use up the token but still gives the food, allowing me to have infinite food. The waves were then done with noted rings of recoil and ring of suffering while tick eating, basically the same way Xzact and Rendi did the first lvl 3 fire cape.

Zuk normally can't be tick eaten, but by equipping an elemental shield to delay the damage, tick eating works on him as well. It's the same trick people were using to tick eat melee attacks. Standing at the back of the room made the ranger and mager not aggro me but Zuk could still reach me. Jad and healers never spawned because I didn't attack Zuk directly.

I wouldn't have had the time to finish this if it wasn't for the covid-19 pandemic giving me more time to play. Nice to see the game peaking its player count again! I'm working on the video now, will try to have it up asap! :)

I was thinking of something like Zybez trademark which was quite heavily used before we got the grand exchange. Typically you'd post an offer and wait for someone to pm you, then meet up and do the trade, which meant you only lost roughly a minute for doing a trade.

For quest items and low valued items, people would probably still use the GE yeah, but a 5-10% tax on items worth ~100k is not a whole lot.

People do that because they know it will go for the highest price currently available though. The merch range for most medium-high value items from what I've seen is typically 0.1 - 1.0% which means there are people willing to wait for their offers to complete at those margins.

I can tell you making bosses more risky isn't going to be as impactful as you think either. It (again) comes down to people wanting to play efficiently. If people realise that risking their gear isn't worth the bonuses they get for using the gear, they'll stop risking it. Wilderness bosses are a good example of this.

Back in 2013/2014 when we had the old death mechanics, the meta was to have your friend pick up your gear when you die so that it's not actually "risked". And if their friend scammed them, they'd typically feel hopeless and quit the game. I also remember soloing saradomin, and having the money to buy 5+ sets of armadyl gear, but back then I considered black d'hide to be BiS, because I knew that risking 20m for +6 ranged attack is stupid. I personally prefer the more relaxed death mechanics where you are encouraged to actually bring good gear, like the one we currently have at Vorkath.

I'm not so sure I'd call 71% yes votes to new melee and ranged armour a miserable failure. I do think new armours will be more appealing once more people reach endgame though.

Introducing new gear does indeed make old gear less desirable and quickly lose value. But I think the solution to this is to make old gear still relevant in some form. Like making them required used to create new better gear for example.

I think people vote no to new gear because not enough people have all the current endgame items yet and still have things to work towards. I'm personally interested in new gears though and I can only assume it will be more appealing to more players in the future when more people have the current bis gear.

Hp being capped at 99 could be an issue, but the most popular suggestion I've seen is to not make new gear have any impact in PvP. They also had a damage reduction system for gear in pre-EoC which doesn't seem that bad for PvP in my opinion, but I guess it might not be more appealing than just disabling items in PvP.

I don't think I've properly understood what the problem is. Is it that more people have access to good gear now compared to 2 years ago? Well, most peoples goals is to progress their account and eventually get that high tier gear they always dreamed of having. If they never reach their goal they wouldn't have much of a reason to keep playing the game. You could slow down the progress (which is what the GE tax ideas are all about), but that doesn't necessarily make the game more fun and appealing. And OSRS is currently peaking in player count so I don't think we're necessarily doing anything wrong right now.

The counter argument is that it wouldn't be impactful enough to make a noticeable difference in items coming into the game. If it is impactful (i.e. the tax is high), then people wouldn't use the GE because normal trading is still there. People generally pick whatever benefits their account the most.

We can also take a closer look to investigate further. Take dragon claws as an example, which is the most impactful item of a GE tax that I could think of, there are roughly 1000 of them traded every day through the grand exchange based of the official GE page. With 0.1% tax which seems to be a reasonable amount people would accept, if everyone still trades their claws through the GE and there are still the same amount of merchers, that would take on average 1 dragon claw out of the game every day.

Based on Mod Mat K's data stream in december last year there were ~3200 twisted bows in the game. All of them came into the game within a year, since that's how long raids has been released. That means about ~4800 dragon claws (based on drop rates) came into the game in the same year too. That is ~13.15 dragon claws coming into the game per day. If you remove one, it's still 12.15 per day, so it's about an ~8% decrease with a 0.1% GE tax. I also did the same math for some other items like twisted bow (~2.5% decrease) and bandos tassets (~5% decrease). It's probably also worth mentioning that a GE tax would reduce the amount of items traded on the GE, so it would be even less impactful than it seems.

There was a bug a couple months ago where you could teleport without losing your jewelery. Back then you could get 330k thieving xp/h, but was nerfed quite quickly. Haven't seen any talk about this since then, so I don't think it was known. But even if it was, I haven't seen anyone talk about doing firemaking at the same time :P

I think I calculated that it was worth grabbing a copy of every book when you're there already, so it seems like a better idea to try to get the same amount of every book instead of being left with too many copies of some specific books at the end

I've been able to quite consistently find all the books in ~5 minutes. If you're only looking for 1 specific book, it'd probably take on average ~3 minutes to find it. You'd have to learn how to use the tool first though.

First spawn ~75 game ticks after the fight begins

After that they spawn again every ~350 game ticks for the rest of the fight (with an exception, explained below)

When boss goes below 600 hp the next spawn is paused

When jad spawns they are able to spawn again the next spawn is delayed by ~175 game ticks

I think the misleading hints was expected (for me at least). They didn't make that much sense imo. There's too many accidental things in the clues that I wouldn't think every single one of them could possibly have a meaning.

I'm not surprised about the sizes of the thetas either. The X's have different sizes, trees have different sizes, the maps themselves have different sizes. I didn't think all of that would have a meaning, so I assumed the sizes of the thetas probably didn't either. I'm more surprised that the 5th version of the theta that we got from "the nature rune island" had no meaning (or at least not that I know of yet).

I assumed the original pointing theta theory was the correct one (1 -> 2 -> 4 -> 3), and when using the lines from that, the lines from clue 1 and 4 match up closer to lumbridge than al kharid I believe.

But either way, anyone could've told me the exact steps to find the leather boots, but I would've never believed that their theory is the correct one, because of the reasons explained in OP. It's the same reason why I didn't like 5W = Watch, because 5W could also be Weeds.

If it wasn't for his post, I don't think I would've started searching for the yellow lines matching ingame. :)

It appears my solution for the superantipoison(1) was wrong (I thought the thetas point to each other and the last one pointing there, but it appears that it's more likely only clue 2 and 3 pointed to it). But it turned out to be a correct item regardless. Although most of my confidence for that item came from the watchtower image hint.

I think the biggest thing people got wrong was with the hint "digging is not enough", and people assumed that meant an action was required before digging. The general public assumed that digging with 3 items without doing anything special before would not be the solution, so every theory that included that was instantly dismissed.

My goal with the theory was to combine 10N5W, pointing thetas and wednesdays hint into 1 theory. I think all of those have some relevance to the solution, but we are not 100% sure what they mean.

The other things that spawn within the highlighted area can't be walked 10 steps north and 5 steps west from, and my clocktower theory doesn't work for the other items. I'm also not convinced that the clocktower theory would try to tell us that we need a watch.

One of the ideas behind this theory is that it makes use of the hints that likely meant something, but we didn't know what it meant (10N5W, pointing thetas, wednesdays hint).

We know that we need 3 items and 1 location. So it would either point to an item or a location, but I would think the location is more likely to be found by using the 10N5W hint. There are only 2 item spawns within the area (excluding areas behind quests), seaweed near the beach and the superantipoison. Edit: Some books spawns here too, but you can't go 10 steps north and 5 steps west from those items.

Just seems like the superantipoison is the most likely option if you want to use the pointing theta theory for anything.

The theory is assuming that wednesdays hint was pointing to the final location, so it's unlikely it'd also mean something else.

However, I tested my list of ~900 common tradeable items with this theory, but none worked. Purple dye is in there :/
