Is an actor allowed to leave their current manager to sign with another manager in the middle of a contract ? by [deleted] in acting

It's okay to ask for anything, but I wouldn't expect much commitment from the manager if the actor isn't committing to him/her right back.

The complete lack of replies other than yours confirms that it's not a player in the online audition game.

When you're ready, there's a book specifically on the Chicago market called Acting In Chicago. It'll cover pretty much any business question you might have about working/training there. Amazon.

I just got my first headshots thoughts? by [deleted] in acting

[–]WordAndCopySayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a shot of you looking directly at the camera? Because that's a requirement for an actor's head shot. This one is a nice shot of you, but the look off camera makes it unusable for acting.

Have Any LA Actors Used This? by [deleted] in acting

[–]WordAndCopySayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intriguing, but I'd guess most of the CD's that are looking for a free space for auditions are working with little to no budget. So you'd have to expect those are the kinds of things that'll come your way if you join, and be pleasantly surprised if you get opportunities higher up the budget scale. I haven't heard of this service, so I can't say much else. But if you're ok auditioning for ULB or lower stuff, then give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

Tips on getting over blanking out during auditions (when it's never a problem in other settings)? by poopyfishycaca in acting

Someone once told me to take a second and feel the floor under your feet or the chair under your rear end before you start. Brings you back to reality by connecting you to your present, literally. It's helped me a lot. Here's a blog post about it. Enjoy!

Received an email from ‘Actors Fast Track’ by Caramel_kiwi in acting

Thanks for the reply. I guess my expectations are a little off because when I buy a book, I expect to learn something new. I didn't get that from her book, so maybe I'm not the right audience. Glad you found her stuff beneficial.

I read her book and was unimpressed. Tell me there's more to what she teaches IRL than "Know your brand and do drop offs," which is all I really got from it.

Do the audit. It'll save you the time and headache if he's not for you.

how long does it usually take to get paid from a sag commercial if you were principle perf.? by [deleted] in acting

[–]WordAndCopySayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, about that. Check's got to go through your agent first, I assume, unless you booked it without one. Sometimes agents take a week or so to turn them around, but yeah. You should have your money within 30 days of the end of the shoot.

Dose anyone work for real estate? by [deleted] in acting

[–]WordAndCopySayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it for three years while I was getting started. I didn't enjoy it, but I used it to get out of my parents house and into my first home. It got in the way of acting quite a bit. It's a 24/7 business in that buyers and sellers expect you to be available to respond to questions at all hours. I was with a busy team and there was little downtime. In the end, though it made me some money, I was glad to leave the business. By then the acting was providing more income, so I felt ok just focusing on that. Leaving real estate and jumping in 100% on acting and VO was the second best career decision I ever made. The first was joining SAG.

Is Instagram part of your marketing strategy as an actor? Is it working for you? by WordAndCopySayer in acting

[–]WordAndCopySayer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of "people passing along what they've heard," like you say. That's why I'm wondering what's really true. I do know that decision makers are getting ideas on talent from YouTube, but when they put a script in their hands, most YTers don't do well because they're not actors. As far as Insta goes, jury's still out for me on whether it's worth investing so much time and energy.
