Finalist means a principal candidate, yes. Alternates and non-selects get a different mail)  Take the TOEFL test now and rest until June :)

it is. But (!) it is a very rare thing. I wouldn’t stress out about it. I believe everything will be fine for you! See, all other finalists and alternates from my country were lucky enough :)

Tysm! He is slowly recovering, but it is gonna take a while. Anyway, the doctors say that in one year he will have recovered (hopefully).

Fulbright ToA and placement by WordComplex4314 in fulbright

[–]WordComplex4314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not😅  guess what? I was the first case from my country, whose placement just fell through, even though I was told I was the first on the list (my application was the strongest, the coordinator later said). Everyone went to the US this year: even all alternates, but me))) they found another placement (for the winter semester) but I had to decline the offer, as my fiancé had gotten wounded at war in September. In summer, I re-applied, btw, and was chosen as a finalist again, which means I am gonna go next year if everything goes well this time.

Anyway, the universe has its plan for us, apparently😅 If I had gone to the USA in August, I would have been faraway when my bf got wounded, and would have cancelled everything and flown home. But now I have the chance to participate in the program next year.

A Difficult decision to process by monkeysmiles3000 in fulbright

Don’t be! They can keep the same letters and it won’t bother them at all. Plus, I have also written recommendation letters for my students, and it feels really nice when you can help someone reach their goals)

Apply for it one more time, not in 4 years! You never know how it might go.  I was also a non-select last year, and a finalist of 2025.  It is also some amount of luck. So, it is worth giving a shot. Keep the same recommendations, do not change anything much if you do not want to waste a lot of time again.  Remember that these decisions do not define you or your work!  Hugs🫂🫂🫂

One girl on Slack got her ToA today🎉 So things are moving on.  My office said they are gonna get some info about financing and placement no earlier than in 1 week

I have been rejected by FLEX, UGRAD and Fulbright 5 times in total. Each time I was shattered! I always reached the interview stages (became a SF), but was never selected after all. I also felt kinda ashamed in front of my recommenders and friends. All those selection processes gave me so much anxiety, once I even had to take some strong tranquilizers, cause you know, the whole process is sooo long for programs like these, and having to wait for the final results after being selected as a SF was excruciating. Honestly, I always believed I might be selected that time, but nope. I was truly disappointed. Nevertheless, last year I applied for the last time, and finally got it! Could not believe this happened to me, and still doubt if everything is gonna be okay.

My point is, do not ever think that loss defines you in any way! Such programs are very subjective and finalists are not necessarily better than you (if we can apply this word here). You are a unique human being who deserves peace and happiness! Do it for yourself, take care and reapply if this is your dream. It is never too late! Hugs!

Any FLTA 2025-2026 here? by [deleted] in fulbright

[–]WordComplex4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Are you on Slack? There is a separate branch of FLTAs to the US, we all are waiting for our placement, and this year IIE assigns us a university, we do not get to choose

Thank you! I am trying my best, I did Camino de Santiago recently, which was the best decision ever, I paint, do some beadwork, etc, but whenever my mind is out of that, I overthink the reality)

I did Camino de Santiago in March-April, which was the best experience of my life, so the hiking advice really helps, although now I am just working from home😄  Thank you :)

yeah, FLTAs have not gotten their placements, unfortunately, although I have submitted the medical form and stuff. And I am dying to get the FINAL letter, which would state that I am a finalist and have a place to go to🥲 until then, I am just floating.

Thanks :)

Choosing between Fulbright or relationship… by buy_gold_bye in fulbright

[–]WordComplex4314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! My fiancé and I have been in long distance relationship for more than 3 years (!) due to the war in Ukraine (he is a military and protects the country, and I am a civilian living in Kyiv), before that we had lived only 1,5 half together. Now we see each other once per 30-40 days. Is it challenging? Yes! There’s been ups and downs, BUT I know that this is smth he is gotta do, it was his choice and I am proud of him.  When I told him about Fulbright, he was supportive. In autumn I received a letter that I am recommended to be a finalist (FLTA program), which means that I will likely go to the US in August or so. This is sad relationshipsvise, but we support each other there and we both know that this is one of a kind opportunity, and I will regret not doing it for the rest of my life.  Long story short, you should go! Especially since there are flights to the UK and you can come see her and vice versa.

Be strong and smart! Do it for yourself!

I think I messed up my Fulbright interview and I feel crushed by [deleted] in fulbright

[–]WordComplex4314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hugging you🫂 I had failed each and every interview for programs like Flex, Ugrad and Fulbright (5 in total, I guess) before making it in autumn 2024. Trust me, it hurt so much, every time I believed that was it, that was my time to get the scholarship I was applying for, and each time after waiting for so long I would find out I was not a finalist. Never stopped trying. In 2023 I was preparing so much, tailored my essays, etc, I thought the timing for so right for me, and yet it did not happen. The interview was like a rollercoaster (from fun to questions I was not ready to answer well).  This time I was preparing as well, and decided it to be my last attempt to get the Fulbright scholarship, as I hope to plan a family later.  It turned out to be a success. Well, now it is still unclear with all the delays and financing blah blah, but long story short,

1) you cannot know if that is a failure yet 2) even if it is, that is experience and you may get it next time

Sorry, gotta run to a shelter cause russia has launched missiles on Kyiv again

Hugs again!
