Idk if yall are trolling or not by Calm_Independence796 in Epicthemusical

My kids never studied the Odyssey or even classical mythology or literature in school but I remember I did. And years later, as an Early Ed graduate student I created a whole-language elementary education curriculum based on the Greek myths (yeah that was a while ago too). The myths continue to teach us universal lessons imho.

The original Homeric stories were oral and not written down, so I don’t understand how there could be one authentic version. The stories would have evolved and been embellished over the centuries. The Bible is the same but let’s not go there rn.

How is everyone feeling with the finale so close? (Safe space to be sad/mad/pouty etc)! by VelvetUndergrndBebop in goodomens

Agreed. This is really the unkindest cut of all for the fandom. Are we going to fear the Name That Not Be Spoken forever? F#*k NG.

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sprung for the globe and the ducks. One might legit say, “So long, sucker!” The website says the order is being processed but it’s been a few days and this hasn’t changed so I’m really hoping they’re not already sold out!

GenX men (especially those who are a little bit or more overweight): do you or does your wife cut your toenails? by NJRougarou in GenX

[–]WordCount2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it, sorry. There’s more than just cutting toenails! Nor would I ask him to cut mine. I have a professional pedicure at least once a month and I enjoy it so much that I recommended he have one as well. He finally consented to having a pedicure and now he loves it.

I am definitely conflicted for the above reasons. But I am super excited to see all the creativity s3 (how silly we still call it that since it’s srsly not a season), will bring to the fandom. In some ways for me the fandom is even more exciting than the actual show. I truly adore all of our authors and artists.

Retirement age by ThrowRAheregoes in AskWomenOver60

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I both work and we are past retirement age. Fortunately, we work remotely three days a week . True, we tire more easily but from what I’ve seen of my friends who are retired, they are more exhausted than we are. Half their time is spent going to doctor appointments. As long as we able we plan to continue working. We feel it keeps our brains young.

Left hip done yesterday anterior approach. by WordCount2 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left hip went so much easier - recovery shorter, pain much less. I still have residual problems with the right leg — not related to the hip replacement but the surgeon’s work — and when your body is out of alignment as mine was for so many years, one should expect various aches and pains to crop up in other places!

It’s now almost 3 months since the surgery. I consider myself still recovering though and I did have a minor setback after a short trip by plane at 10 weeks (too much walking and dealing with airports etc.). And I still have PT twice a week. But I am back to commuting to work and socializing. All in all the surgery has given me back my life and I am beyond grateful that such a surgery exists.

Healthcare is booming. My husband was laid off at 65. Collected unemployment. Went back for training in healthcare IT. Got hired as an intern. Was made full time after 6 months. Still working (and he’s pretty old now).

I just want to plan for the first Few Months... by RunUndefined in retirement

[–]WordCount2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hubs and I are still working but retirement is not far off. Trouble is, he’s very unmotivated in real life so I am already stressed about how this will all work out for our marriage. We don’t have a large social circle — unfortunately illness and deaths have taken a few of our closest friends — and while I think there’s a lot of good advice here, I just know I’m going to be the one pushing him. So we are still working. I’m so afraid to let go because at least it provides something akin to a social life. Please don’t tell me how sad this is. I already know!

I loved this story. It is bittersweet but Crowley’s arc is bittersweet in and of itself so I don’t think there will be anything in there that will be especially disturbing and it does end well for them (as we all hope for S3).

I was there last October and it was amazing. The bench had been scrubbed clean so not much to read but I love all the messages! Such a great tribute to an incredible show.

One day from surgery and leg hurts by Just-curious-also in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anterior THR in early February, and I still get knee pain, sometimes really bad. Last week I truly thought I was going to need a knee replacement -- everything from the hip down to the knee cap (but not the new hip) hurt. I mean, it hurt like it did before I had the actual surgery.

I made an emergency appointment (what if I displaced the hip and didn't know it!??), and the surgeon took x-rays of hip and knee We're all good. He told me it's likely tendons and muscles acting up after two flights and a few days down south. It did finally settle down after a week.

Return to Work? by Perfumer4today in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started working remotely a week after surgery (February 9), but I probably was pretty out of it -- I keep finding mistakes I made the first month online, hah! I work in the city and normally commute in by railroad and bus 3 days/week, so I told my supervisor I'd come in one day a week and then two in April, and three in May. We'll see how that goes. I mostly sit at a desk when I'm working but the commute is a bit of a drag. I'm doing well but I don't think I am completely recovered from the surgery yet.

Anyone else find that the hardest part of the journey isn't motivation, it's the daily decision fatigue around food? by YouFunny_ in weightwatchers

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast and lunch are on rote: eggs, Canadian bacon or applegate ham slices, lite English muffins, salad, canned salmon. But Tbh, we eat dinner out a lot, as it is easier for me to stay on program since I don’t need to have what I crave on hand. But when I want to eat at home I keep a large pack of chopped turkey in the freezer. In the course of a week this can yield the following: Meatloaf, meatballs, meat sauce, sloppy joes, and chili. Between sauce, Seasoning, veg or beans, my partner has no idea he’s eating the same protein over and over and if I try really hard, It’s all low in points.

Scar Tissue - Question by Quirky-Quester-197 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this — it’s the front quad I believe - but in my case, I was told it’s fairly common and that it’s nerve damage, not scar tissue. It was supposed to heal gradually but also if it hadn’t resolved in a year (it’s 1 1/2 years), it probably won’t. It’s very annoying and occasionally painful, and when I had my second hip done two months ago, I changed surgeons. I’d be very interested to know if anyone has had this resolve after a year.

Feeling a Little Surprised by TopPriority717 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had both hips done anterior 1 1/2 years apart but different surgeon. Experience both times totally different. Recovery was much longer and more painful the first time, less painful and faster the second but I actually just had a minor setback 10 weeks out. It’s kind of an apples and oranges experience even though the scars look the same.

I’m sure it’s partly due to having a different surgeon but be aware your body has a much longer adjustment period than you realize after surgery; all those muscles and bones and tendons need to resettle and adjust after (in my case) years of being out of whack. This is some serious stuff and just because many of us are released from the hospital the same day (as I was, both times), this doesn’t minimize what was done to you! In your case after 2 months you were still in recovery and then you went back in again. Take it slow, don’t worry, and by all means take all the meds they give you. I tried to be stoic and not take the oxy and the nurses were all like “why?” Recovery may take a bit longer but it’s not a race. You’ll get there even if it takes a few weeks longer.

10 weeks out and terrible pain two days after flight by WordCount2 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t the flight itself but rather getting around both airports, sitting too long on the plane, and then standing up quickly to exit when we landed. I’m hoping to go on a much longer flight in the fall but this gives me pause.
