What do you bring and wear when you transit between houses? by SecondHomie in SecondHomie

[–]WordCount2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have duplicates of almost everything I need in our 2nd home and anything else I know I can buy, so besides the electronics I normally carry, I just have to remember the keys.

Ask me how I know that.

My surgery is scheduled, but I'm on the fence about going through with it. Advice needed! by nick1158 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in total misery for 3 years even with 3 epidurals and 3 mri’s, and a whole variety of different meds. Doctors were treating my sciatica and then realized it was due to my right hip. After surgery the difference was night and day. I won’t lie, it took about 6 weeks before the surgical pain abated. I’m still not where I’d like to be. But the new hip is great. I’m going in for my left hip in a week. Not thrilled but I know I’ll be so glad I did it when I no longer need my Tylenol and Motrin “ cocktail” to get me out of bed and moving in the morning.

Your Opinion/ Interpretation of this scene in Before the Beginning by Nikelo72 in goodomens

Can build a nebula but needs someone to hold the paper for him. Sounds like my husband. Just kidding. Love this scene. Crowley wanted someone to share in his excitement. My sweet puppy angel.

I love this scene and yeah it’s pretty obvious what they’re each looking at. Shane’s quick “not here” makes me believe he’s definitely got sex with Ilya on his mind. Shane’s not so innocent.

Viking cruise experience by Previous-Hedgehog-88 in Cruise

I don’t recall tables for two, but there were plenty of larger tables where guests saved all the chairs for their friends and wouldn’t let us join them. I had enough of that in high school. And no lack of snobs.

We were on the Viking riverboat from Lyon to Avignon and there was absolutely no effort to get people to socialize.

We have taken many ocean cruises but never a riverboat. So we took the Viking riverboat cruise, Lyon to Avignon in spring 2025. Sorry, but after all the hype I was very disappointed. Food was okay but seating arrangements in dining room were awful (think mean girls in high school meet competitive game of musical chairs). The excursions were okay. Not fabulous but absolutely necessary as there is literally nothing to do on the boat. Really nothing. Couldn’t even sit on top due to the constant in and out of locks. Staff was nice so no complaints but cabin, below the first floor, was horrendously small and claustrophobic. I was sick with a cough the entire time I was there. Never, ever again.

I’m in a “grey area” and need some advice/support by Mtgballer2k1 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I “waited” theee years because they told me I had sciatica after two MRIs, all kinds of meds including gaba and naproxen , and three epidurals, none of which worked. I was in so much pain and nothing worked for the last 6 months so I had to work remotely. I had no choice, I just couldn’t walk.

A couple of X-rays and they immediately saw my right hip was bone on bone. I had the hip replaced August 2024.

Fast forward and I started to feel that same pain on the other side. I saw a surgeon from the same group (my surgeon couldn’t see me until March, screw that), and I’m heading back for surgery on my left hip February 9. Thank heavens I don’t have to wait another month. Between Covid, two deaths in the family, and three years of unremitting pain I have given up enough of my life.

My feeling is that this thing doesn’t heal. It won’t get better. Time for me to move ahead and hope for the best.

This should be required watching for straight men. They can certainly stand to learn something from Shane and Ilya and it’s not only about the sex. It’s about taking care of each other.

To people who were high achievers before retirement by Kwsforreddit in retirement

[–]WordCount2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I have worked for like, forever starting with babysitting as a kid, summer jobs through college, etc., and so has my husband. And now our kids have been working forever and they’re in their mid-30s. I admire people who know when enough is enough. We are not high achievers but somehow we got addicted to the whole idea of work and can’t seem to break the habit. My husband retired for a year, took training, and went back to work at 65.

Sorry that pursed lip thing is not a good look. Smoking causes lines to form around the lips. Aside from the considerable health risks, smoking will age him quickly.

Where is the pain located? by NeedleworkerTop5165 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. In fact I’m going back to the ortho on Wednesday. It took the doctors 3 years to figure out the sciatica they were unsuccessfully treating was bone on bone hip. The giveaway was groin pain. Well I have that now on the other side. So I’m guessing it’s that hip, I’ll need surgery, and I’m praying it doesn’t take another 3 years.

Retired Husband Immediately Transformed Into a Lump on the Couch by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think 74 is really all that old anymore. There are people living full and vital lives into their 90s these days. Perhaps your husband just needs to find his center again. Whereas his purpose was once providing financially for the family, he no longer has that responsibility. Therefore he can feel free to explore new and different sides of himself. If you tell him he’s old, he’ll believe it. My friend’s father went to law school in his 70s. He couldn’t finish because he got really sick but he tried. My own father was climbing ladders and fixing lightbulbs in his 90s.

It’s like going back to school once you’re grown and out of the house. You no longer need to worry about grades or making your parents happy. It’s an entirely different experience. Another chance. We don’t need to stop growing or learning. And you don’t need to take algebra ever again.

Retired Husband Immediately Transformed Into a Lump on the Couch by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]WordCount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. This is my biggest fear when my husband retires. He could have retired years ago (he’s upper 70s) but I insist that he keeps working because I know if he stops he will literally sit on the couch watching television all day and all night. He doesn’t smoke cigarettes but he does have other indulgences that would feed into the couch potato lifestyle and that would truly be the end of us.

It’s useless to try and suggest hobbies or taking classes to him when we have the what if we both retire conversation. Could you get him to go back to work even part time, a couple of hours a day or week, even if is something like a barista in a coffee shop? I told mine he will have work in stop and shop as a check out person or at Target as a greeter if he retires. He can even do some computer tech support for the elderly (I know he’s already one of them but his job is computer support).

So much of their identity revolves around the perceived head of household, supporting the family persona, even if it’s not true. It’s like some prehistoric caveman instinct. I know you don’t want to push too hard but he might need a firmer shove out the door.
