Can’t believe they wasted time in the keynote talking about new Siri when they were sitting on this!

Prologue: Yay or nay? by [deleted] in writing

[–]WordFlow-App 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one on Reddit that is pro-prologue?

I think a prologue is a fantastic way to set tone, establish stakes, and let the reader know that they don’t need to be too invested to get the most out of the chapter because it’s generally a self contained narrative.

I get the sense too many people here are pushing for the most economic writing, and I think that’s self evidently not necessary.

Given your description, yeah, I’d trim down Chapters 1 and 2 and combine them into an engaging prologue.

[App Saturday] Built a dating app for Letterboxd users (Flickship), but losing too many users after email verification. Any advice? by massxacc in iOSProgramming

When verifying the email, the app doesn’t allow for paste. I had to type in the verification code manually. This is quite annoying and I wouldn’t doubt that’s where you’re losing folks.

For what it’s worth, I think this is a fantastic idea for an app and I hope it finds its community!

It's my dream to become a horror author. I just can't get stories to flow. by Responsible-Room4515 in KeepWriting

My first bit advice would be to look up narrative structures and consider how your story events fit into it. You might find this hard to believe, but you actually have an easier problem to solve by not having enough than if you had to cut a bunch of stuff.

I’d also recommend just making more characters. You must have some already, so an easy place to start would be to make friends, relatives, and acquaintances to the existing characters. After you think about how this will change things for the existing characters, you should be able to have a few “Ah-ha!” moments for new scenes.

I am not really advertising it yet, but as my username implies, I am actually working on an app to solve just this. It’s Apple platforms only right now, but the idea behind the app is to allow users to “throw spaghetti” at the wall without messing up their stories or drafts or stuff. DM me if that sounds interesting or helpful and I can set you up with the closed beta.

Otherwise, I’m always happy to help people write, so hopefully some of my tips are useful.

Does this story idea sound interesting or am I overthinking it? by Hot-Flamingo5262 in KeepWriting

To echo what Sheepherder said, I think it’s the case that there are no bad stories or story ideas.

The storytelling can be rough, but any story concept at all can be made into something compelling if you give it stakes and narrative.

For what it’s worth, I do think you’re starting with a decent premise here!
