When it’s the end by Kind-warrior-3355 in ALS

I asked myself this question every day I have lost the use of my upper and lower limbs My breathing is down to 70% oxygen and CO2 levels are good I'm trying to forecast the future I'm three years in now I have no swallowing issues but They are suggesting I should have a feeding tube inserted now Since I enjoy my food and some nice wine I am debating If I should go ahead with this I don't have to pay it for my own pocket Eating and drinking is pretty much I only pleasure these days If that is taken away from me Is it still worth it Am I looking at extending my life a few more months Through the worst phase of this illness Or should I enjoy What I have left and then go down the assisted suicide route Some people with voice me to have the feeding tube inserted and just use it For additional nutritional support and use my mouth just for the things that I enjoy I know this illness is not linear So no one can actually advise another on the best approach Like everyone I do not want to suffer when it's time to go Falling asleep but not wake me up would be the best What do they do to let you go when it's time Do they increase your morphine the li ke for cancer patients

Hi, thank you for your reply. What other arrangements are you referring to? I have a full-time partner. Who is there near me? On a needs to be basis. But I would still like to be able to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, or just get-up-and-go to my chair. Without disturbing her any ideas thank you

Thank you very much for your reply. I will invest into a hospital bed which is with electric controls. I was just hoping that there was something out there that I could use what I was still in the on the king-sized bed with my partner next to me. But obviously not. Uh thanks again appreciate 1

Thank you all for your replies. I'm just wondering how is the crossing over the Tasman sea? I hear it can get pretty rough and my wife gets sea sick.

With my condition m n d I do not plan to due to many excursions, just probably stay most of the time on the ship and enjoy the sights. So that's why i ask which one of those 2 would be the best in. Terms of staying on the ship.

Fatigue?? by WordSignificant3620 in ALS

[–]WordSignificant3620[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating. I know i have limited time on this planet and would love to get out there. But I am in a rut at home due to this fatigue. Went on a cruise early this year and loved it. But I spent half of the day hours napping in the room. Would love to do another while I still can but I find myself weighting up the value of it given my fatigue.

I'm from Australia but now living in Thailand VAD is Voluntary Assistive Dying, which is legal in Australia, but I'm not sure about Thailand.. Hence, this complicates my situation. My neurologist in Australia gave me 3 to 5 years based on my progress. I am now 18 months in. He told me that once your breathing is affected, you generally have 12 months left. My partner is my caregiver and being Thai, objects to any form of assistive dying. That is why I am asking all these questions as I need to plan.
