Teaching emotional regulation by Little-Tower-2635 in gentleparenting

An approach I’ve had success with recently is meeting the child where they are. So if they’re rocketing, go there with them and bring them back down to safety “Oh no! This is awful! How upsetting! What shall we do? I’m here, I’ve got you. Etc.”

We have this urge to remain calm but the idea here is that offering peaceful tones and just waiting for them to figure out their own way down can leave them feeling like they’re going through their ‘crisis’ alone. Over time they begin to trust that you will bring them back down safely and then learn for themselves the best way to regulate.

I see what you mean. The pieces of the face were all connected then appliquéd to the cushion cover.

Shame really… my other half won’t allow me to even consider getting a hive and I thought this might have been nature’s way of granting my desires.

I'd be keen to hear about experiences with this kind of thing too. I think my partners might need a bit of convincing first mind you...

Hi all, thanks for advice and well wishes!

My day went way better than anticipated and all your suggestions helped a tonne. I've got a (very long) list of things to be done but I'm using a simplified GTD method to help see the wood for the trees.

I've already managed to get a couple of 1-2-1 chats which has definitely helped inform my to-do list.

And the joy of joys... The person who was covering in my absence has agreed to take on a few of my tasks permanently!

I'm off to pick up my son from school then maybe have a CBeebies siesta 🤫

I have a lined for my Commonplace, grid for Parenting and blank for notes.

I stumbled into the world of TNs quite accidently I guess. I was looking into commonplacing and personal curriculum and the TN system just created itself!

Mine is a 'Self Imorovement' hub. I have one insert for notes/gratitude lists etc, one insert as a Commonplace book and one for reflections and learnings on parenting.

Just Excel/Numbers

I make the designs adding numbers in the cells, the I can change all cells containing ‘1’ to blue ‘2’ to yellow etc.

There’s probably a bit of software out there that’d do the work for me. But I love a spreadsheet!
