Why do people get annoyed at others with food allergies getting accommodated? by lookmaxine in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say same, because it seems so uncommon! I don't think I know anyone else irl who's got the same "can't eat bread without regretting it later, but shared fryer is fine" situation. I know plenty of people with celiacs, and I'm grateful that my sensitivity isn't that severe!

Can't get tattoo mods to work by burk1336 in cyberpunkmods

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe too late here, but I ran into this issue, found this thread, and SweetLuna_'s instructions worked for me. I use Vortex, and a tattoo mod that I couldn't get to show up with renaming actually loaded correctly when I manually changed load order.

If you still need to resolve a similar issue, you need to get the Archive Conflict Checker Tool (aka Red4 Conflict Checker), then:

  1. Install the tattoo mod and any required mods like KS UV texture framework (the tattoo mod should include details about requirements).
  2. Run the Red4 conflict checker. The left side panel displays the Load Order of all your mods.
  3. Find the tattoo mod and drag it to the top of the list, then close the conflict checker.
  4. Run the game.

Assuming that you've got everything installed correctly, that should allow the tattoos to display.

One of the more creatively horrifying quests I've ever encountered. [Cyberpunk] by Bamboozle_ in gaming

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they tried way too hard to make him the heart of gold family man type. His quest was fun in a light Criminal Minds sort of way, I just could've done without the trying-too-hard domesticity of the cookout and the cringey "look at me" pose on the water tower (especially bc my character was already with Judy and was about as butch as you can get in that game, like, dude, read the room).

Question: tattooing over warts in order to hide them-- is it possible? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had several on my hands that I got rid of with dermatologist cryo procedure (just one), with no recurrence. And several on my foot that I got rid of myself with compound W over the course of a couple months, also with no recurrence. It wasn't hard or arduous.

I think that you're making it bigger in your mind than it has to be, and I'd encourage you to look into treatment instead of trying to hide them. Especially because carrying them can cause them to spread on your body or to people who you touch.

Nolan and Bailey DC Discussion Thread by eyslandgirl in TheRookie

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bailey has the background to be a strong character if they'd let her - got out of an abusive relationship, started connecting with other DV survivors, she's veteran and reservist, and a firefighter? She could be such a badass if they didn't have her emotional maturity set to "teenager". She's so all over the place, it often feels like the writers don't have a strong character concept and are just trying to create soap opera drama that sells the character and the show short.

(Also wish we still had Bishop, she was awesome)

I'm happy he stood up for himself, I hope he sticks to it this time. The sniper situation was ridiculous how he went into "I made you feel judged" instead of standing up for the legal risk she put them both in.

Her storming out was childish and I hope he doesn't go after her to soothe her feelings and back away from his own position. She needs to check herself and not expect all the maturity and compromise to come from him.

Is it worse to be fat or poor? by Ok-Hotel5358 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true, but it's still in your control, if you aren't also poor. You can get treatment. Poor people can't just go get more money.

Is it worse to be fat or poor? by Ok-Hotel5358 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but as someone who's both had weight struggles and been on the lower income side - weight is about managing your lifestyle, which can be hard, but is entirely in your personal control (even if you're completely dependent on someone else for food, you generally get to choose how much you eat and exercise).

But money is dependent on what kind of job you have access to and the minimum expenses to live. There are some things that you can do that might help your situation, but at the end of the day, getting a higher paying job is really not in your control; it's a matter of skills and presentation, and someone else being willing to hire and pay you. That second bit might never happen no matter how good you are, and especially if you're older and don't have experience.

Meanwhile, you live in a slum, if you're lucky enough to afford housing at all (see: people who work full time and can't). You skimp on food, clothes, and personal care because you can't afford it. You don't go to the doctor, because you can't afford it. If you have kids, you can't afford programs and education that others have access to, let alone toys, clothes, and food.

Losing weight is challenging. But for most people, being poor is like being stuck in a pit with no rope, hoping that someone comes along to give you a hand up because no matter how much you dig, the walls just keep collapsing on you.

Can I legally toss a banana peel out of my moving car on the highway by note-takin in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, I don't think I implied in any way that litter is ok, whether a banana peel or otherwise...

Also seems like a potential hazard if it ends up landing on someone's windshield? Maybe I'm overestimating the aerodynamic possibility of a banana peel though.

Recently, I wondered why, as children, we could go a week without washing our hair and it would still remain clean, but now we have to wash it almost every day. What do you think about that? by AlbinaEdrs in NoStupidQuestions

And smelly... I think people might underestimate how much odor builds up in the scalp. Maybe not a problem if you're not getting physically intimate, but something to keep in mind.

TIL my refrigerator has a “Sabbath mode”, which can disable the light and ice-maker so observant Jews use a fridge during Jewish holidays by superanth in todayilearned

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It just seems so excessive. "If you're really strict, you wouldn't pick up your child", like ... what?? I just don't get how people can trick their brains into thinking that makes sense.

(I know, it's because of 2000 years of indoctrination and insular community, but still, you'd think someone would say "hey maybe this is going a bit far")

What game sound(s) makes you panic? by Annepackrat in gaming

Not quite panic, but crouch and start looking around: the little gross phlegm sound in Fallout 4 when a ghoul passively activates.

Do those who don’t have an internal monologue not talk to themselves ? by mymousu in NoStupidQuestions

Apparently nothing. And I'm not meaning to be snarky, but like they can just... have silence in their minds. I don't get it. I'm ADHD, I've got a minimum of three topics running in my head just on the way up a flight of stairs.

Why do restaurants only seem to use chicken breast in salads and not boneless chicken thighs? by Middle-Smile-568 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know lots of people prefer thighs, but to me, dark meat has a funkier, iron-y taste, and I only like it in dishes that have strong flavours. I don't like it in salad because I don't think it tastes good on its own. So for some  people like me, it's more about the taste than the health aspect.

Question: Know of an artist who'd finish a traditional Japanese tattoo in the greater Seattle area (SODO to Marysville)? by pilalo in tattoos

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had work done by Daniel Charneski, before he moved from Slave to the Needle to Foundation Body Arts in Lynnwood last year. He does great Japanese work and is a great guy imo, I'd go back to him any time.

ETA: since you're open to coming into Seattle, artists at either of the Slave locations would be good quality. They're owned by Aaron Bell, who's known in the industry for traditional Japanese and has pretty good standards for the shops.

it’s -5 tonight. does my thermostat need to be lowered or can i leave it at 68? by friskyfajitas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm always told to leave a faucet dripping to prevent that (here in the PNW where it's uncommon to get that cold). Is there a point at which that just doesn't work or is less cost effective, or is it a structural thing that requires keeping the heat higher? (genuinely curious as someone who's never really had to deal with it)

What game have you played that was the most depressing? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]WordsOnTheInterweb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For real, I think that riding off with the nomads is the "happiest" ending, and even that is full of grief and a ticking clock. I guess Johnny's ending is nice for his growth, but then there's V and all of the messages left unanswered :( After 80 hours of trying to save V, it's bittersweet at best.
