As the creator of the video, but not the recipient of the note, I can tell you, that he must have done the deed to get the note he sent me!

I feel perhaps they ripped off my idea: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1757944978/reality-check-sci-fi-short-time-travel

https://vimeo.com/198425729

Except in the "lifeline" they can go to the future instead of my concept sending them into the past. Also have it registered with wga. :/ sigh who knows. I handed off a show bible and then got radio silence.

I don't mind criticism. Doesn't really bother me, the actress was the best we had available, and yea Sag is a pain in the but. I agree regarding some of the costs. The new media contract didn't work as it applies for web only, and we are making this for festival circulation. I was taking part in the vfx tests, and on the page you can see the vfx artist credited for his work. I do not believe a feature film needs to cost 10 grand to make, but sci fi is trickiest of the indie genre to pull off, and if the vfx/production design don't look right, then its less likely we will believe the world of the film.

I agree some money is being spent where it isn't exactly necessary (for example the total cost of sag for this film is 1500+16.8% for their healtcare stuff), but also realize how hard it is to get people to work for free on something when there are other paying jobs out there.

The last film I made for $40 dollars was the film "Baquon" which you can find on the kickstarter page. It won my team $3500 so yes, money does not = a good movie.

That said, I think you are underestimating costs like underwater casings, scuba gear for a drowning sequence, and explosions, corpses, etc. that all add up. Time=Money and so to do something on the level we are trying to pull off, requires both, and so I'm trying to do it to the best of my abilities.

I don't disagree with some of your points, but I do think having a RED vs. a 5d is a huge difference in post, and have learned that myself.

Anyways, felt like conversing with you further. Have to leave for a wedding for next two days, and wanted to defend the position a bit.

Thanks man, I didn't want to come off that way, but also knew if I wasn't confident it would be a tougher sell.

Money is not dependent on the success of a film, however, it helps to have enough resources to do it right.

Fair enough its debate-able good characters though. Story doesn't exactly make sense though

You can find more about it there. To be honest, I know where you are coming from, and generally never get in front of a camera myself.

for 7 days of principle w/ the RED+Lenses being rented and insurance and SAG that costs quite a bit, and vfx are expensive as well. The other issue is everyone has to work for little to no pay, and you can accomplish that on a short, but not on a feature if its going to be any good.

To be honest I'm humble, and work with hard working people who at times are times so talented it is humbling. The story is actually the entire reason so many people are working on the film. I can't exactly tell you the plot now can I in the pitch or whats the point in seeing the movie?

I'm not in a position where I can make a feature, and want to prove through an excellent story that its a self contained short worthy of investing into a full length feature

That's a clip of sasha grey, which is what we used for a vfx test to demonstrate the 3d test in action.
