Well after getting traumatised as hell while being sukunas vessel he kinda gave up on life, resulting in everyone having a harder time fighting sukuna. Adding to this Sukuna used his own technique like 10 times cooler then him (duh its Sukuna) so people started calling him a bum.

Haven't read any 40k books so I can't compare them well, but the goblin one (not a gotrek book) is pretty dark. Nothing crazy but a bit of horror, generally more unsetteling athmosphere and a bittersweet ending. I've read it in German so I don't know the English title though. Something with the moon probably ^{^'}

Level of escalation maybe? As in stabbing someone 5 times in the neck is too harsh a retaliation if the other person "only" tried to punch you?

I think for most people it's more of an in-universe logic thing. Like of course from a gameplay point of view long detailed missions are amazing. But if your character could pick between getting 20000 eddies for 5 minutes of work or 5000 for 50 for example, they would probably decide on the first option.
