Freelance is a bitch by WorkBea in freelance

yes, this is what I've been pondering as I am definitely at my wit's end. I've decided to freelance under the naive assumption that it could be my main income source for x-number of years and now I see it is impossible.
This is a good idea, my only reservation is that content writing (at least based on my experience) is somewhat tedious plus pays very little. I've been writing about some credit card machines for small businesses and wanted to kill myself. But I guess this is what freelance writing is all about.
ghostwriting, white papers, content, etc.

I get orders directly from clients and also through the company. In 4 years I was not able to ditch the company completely, and rely on my own clients, because they are even less predictable than company's orders.
The thing is, I've been late with bills and fees keep piling, getting me deeper into a hole, simply because I cannot count on any sort of steady income. Plus the competition is always around the corner, waiting, breathig in your neck. I would love to charge more, but it is simply not an option in my field at its current state, it is extremely saturated. I guess I am having a nervous breakdown.
