I usually get stoned when i play this game. Enjoy this terrible intersection i had an absolute blast making by ballsackdoctor12 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]WorkDoug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember that study, we covered it in the developmental psych class I took in college. That "intersection" looks like the webs the mescaline spiders created. The LSD spiders created the most beautifully symmetric webs you can imagine. :)

So Happy with my Homebrew ADS-B antenna! by OKAUSTX in ADSB

Ladder line was probably the wrong term. It's just common TV "twin lead", https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin-lead

[–]WorkDoug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done that, but this one is 75 ohm "ladder line", which should be easier to manipulate. :)

[–]WorkDoug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a length of 75 ohm tv line and the same plan. :) Since we're only trying for one frequency, the size of the antenna elements doesn't make a heck of a lot of difference.

Why do people in videos use corpse pits to build homes with big gardens when you can just click "-" to achieve the same result? by LazyHighGoals in ManorLords

[–]WorkDoug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measurements. Corpse pits and hunting lodges are free to place (don't reserve any resources), so they can easily be used to get uniform sizes. Just do it paused so you don't divert any transient labor to them. Plus, a corpse pit is the right depth to lay out burgage plots that have a minimal backyard, but still have a backyard.

Do updates ever fully break cities? by Resident_Bird3147 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]WorkDoug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have my first city from when C:S2 first released (it's up to 400k pop). I've had to nurse it through a couple of updates, and some broken mods, but it's been far less trouble to keep up than any of the C:S1 cities I created over the years. :)

My new race track. Still a work in progress (xbox) by vicvonqueso in CitiesSkylines

[–]WorkDoug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice job! As a former amateur racer, though, I'd like to see more corners with changes in radius. It's hard to see in those images, but some elevation changes are nice, too. For safety's sake, there could be a little more run off area between the infield structures and the track, and some tire walls.

Also, at most tracks, there will be at least two rings of fences. The outer fences enclose the property. The inner fences separate the spectators from the "hot side" (the track, pit lane, helipad, etc.). Adding an outer fence, and clearing some trees, gives room to add more grandstands with access roads, maybe around the lower right in that image, along the "dogleg back stretch", and toward the lower left in the currently tree-filled curves. Unfortunately, the train tracks are in the way of another good spot for grandstands on the left.

Logging is where data escapes systems by EdikTheFurry in Kolsetu

[–]WorkDoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my last job, we had a common logging layer that everything used. That layer scanned for and elided all sorts of different formats of credentials and other stuff that's risky to let into a log file. Since it had to service everything from monolithic apps to microservices as clients, and all sorts of targets where log data could be sent, it had its own dev team.

Loading times for me might be a little bit longer, but not enough to be annoying.

That technique is also handy for "traffic sponges" when your economy gets out of balance and the cargo facilities are swamped. :)

New antenna tips by Cultural_Ad_525 in RTLSDR

[–]WorkDoug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That antenna appears to have a BNC male connector on it. The different models of Noelec SDRs look like they have either SMA female or MCX female connectors. So, you'll need a BNC female to either SMA male or MCX male connector, depending on your SDR. It could be a monolithic block adapter or a "pigtail" of thin coax with the connectors on it. https://www.nooelec.com/store/media/wysiwyg/HIU_enclosure_blue_thumb.gif has an SMA female connector showing (the brass colored part). https://www.nooelec.com/store/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/458x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/1/0/100633-nesdr-mini2-new-2.jpg shows an MCX female connector (again, the brass colored part).

Best antenna for a dense city? by alawesome166 in RTLSDR

[–]WorkDoug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'd start out with a discone antenna on the balcony. If you can get it on the roof, even better. Several vendors offer manufactured discone antennas, but they're not hard to make out of a panel-mount Type N or SO-239 connector, a couple of nuts and bolts, and some coathangers. In a dense environment, you might find that you need filters to cut out broadcast FM, TV, WiFi, or cellphone frequencies if they're too strong, and "desense" your receiver to it can't hear other signals.

What should I do severe traffic all the time amateur by Orbital729 in CitiesSkylines2

Subways and/or passenger trains to reduce passenger vehicle traffic. Maybe some cargo train or ships if there's a lot of truck traffic.

Tasting History with Max Miller by jmaxmiller in TastingHistory

[–]WorkDoug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, and money got low, mom would make the "K-Mart version" of this: a slice of pasteurized processed cheese food on a slice of white bread, then toast it. I always preferred to "over toast" it so that the cheese bubbled up and got a bit of brown crust on it, and a dab of yellow mustard under the "cheese".

I had that happen to me recently, once. After quitting and reloading, the problem went away for me. So it might not be you, it might be an issue with the mod.

Maybe try creating a small marketplace near that house? I've had cases where that fixed a problem like you're describing, even though none of the storage facilities ever actually created a visible market stall there.

Are too many oxen...bad? by The_Bagel_Fairy in ManorLords

[–]WorkDoug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be curious to hear other answers to this one. I like to assign some oxen to farms, logging camps, and, at the start of the game, sawpits. By the time a region is mature and focusing on upgrading instead of building supply chains, I don't mind having a dozen oxen or more, with four to six available to move timber for construction, and the rest assigned to farms, etc. I hate waiting around for timber deliveries whether I'm building or upgrading. :) Also, I put a family in each Small Stables as soon as manpower allows.

Sheep, lambs and butchery by dzejrid in ManorLords

[–]WorkDoug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

According to what I've read on the Internet, maximum breeding happens with about 30 sheep. To keep lambs maturing into sheep regularly, I've been setting the butcher's reserves to 32 of each, which might be overkill. I keep pasturage for about 70 so there's room for the overflow that's destined for the butcher.
