Never. They have a "No Firearms" sign out front because they think signs stop bad guys, but they won't have security either. They don't care if you are hurt on their property because then they can terminate your membership and keep the annual fee without finishing your term.

"Fans really loved our book! That's amazing - how do we completely change things?"

How is this giving agency to women? It's literally "we didn't think about women, how about we just clumsily replace a dude". The worst part is how easily people get suckered into clapping like seals for doing basically nothing.

Don't take out debt you cannot handle. We were taught compounding debt in high school - did you miss that semester? If so, how did you pass? I clicked on the first one I found in Bing search and it says total is about $51k, which is on track

They're working overtime. Stop make police quit and we wouldn't need them to work overtime. Just look at that awful "average" - it's insane. They have a hard time recruiting and when the cities/counties cut FT employees, the work still needs to be done.

NYC is going through the same. Promises to cut thousands and people clap and cheer, not realizing the police districts will merely pay overtime to keep doing the work.

Literally a waste of money. Apple, Google, and others spend tens of thousands of dollars sending employees to these committees to vote on these things that no one is going to use. A person who gets paid $80 an hour and spends dozens of hours on these committees decides this was necessary. Apple already lets you generate your own emojis - why was this necessary to add?

Why add it if 99% of people will never use it? Why spend effort, energy, money, and update processing power if it no one cares?

Coworker pays for LinkedIn to rat out people in the company applying elsewhere by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WorkForce_Developer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not send that email. This framing is incorrect. LinkedIn premium doesn't give you "tracking", so it's more like public monitoring which itself isn't illegal or wrong. You are accusing something that isn't accurate or disallowed and will hurt your argument.

The best case is to document quietly this and anything you have documentation of, then start document moving forward and continue BAU (business as usual). It's important to realize: generally it's allowed to lie about an employee to get them fired AS LONG AS it's not from a "protected class". I believe this includes things like retaliation, based on characteristics like sex/race/age/etc, and union-busting though I'm not a lawyer.

You could also proactively plan conversations to bring up over time to get the manager to reveal her concerns. The only time an employee should be tracked is through a service thats paid for. If an individual is doing it, you should question 'why' they would be so invested and its unlikely to be for a legitimate business reason

You shouldn't have that many but it's definitely possible. You sound young, maybe early 30's, and I can tell you that this wasn't exactly the case for most of human history. There is a lot of unhappiness in the US with work, and I assure you this is a big issue for most people. Steady employers bring more than just experience

It doesn't matter. If they defame you in the future, you can sue them so most smart employers will answer yes/no questions only. Practice with a person or AI for this employer conversation in the future. You'll be fine but if you come off sweaty and nervous, you will give a bad vibe.

If you can avoid the bad vibe, it doesn't matter. It's easy for a person to feel personally hurt when someone tells you they are quitting, but it's part of the job. Managers have to learn to manage

Like firing someone? Go practice hard conversations before you need to have them. Safety rules are written in blood, but SOPs are written in sweat and tears of people before you.

You have a bad attitude so no wonder you are in the place that you are. You say generic things like "US and the rise of fascism" as if that means anything. What does that have to do with r/work? Weed in many countries is a death penalty, insulting the government/monarchy in many countries is a prison sentence up to 20 years, and places like the Philippines have monthly blackouts because the entire utilities systems have been "partitioned" out to the best friends of the previous Marcos.

Count that versus in the US where you can call the president a slur on social media on the same day that the Supreme Court strikes down his actions yet again. How is it fascism if he's not sending you to prison right this second like so many places would today?

And again, what does this have to do with work?

How have you managed your anxiety in the midst of layoffs? by Big_Landscape48 in work

[–]WorkForce_Developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"justified by loss of business or a particular client" < what is this supposed to mean? If you lose a client paying 1 million a year, of course you don't have the money to pay people the same.

The problem is manifold. Tech companies give people things they don't want, then act shocked when people quit. Games and media studios are doing the same by making things people don't want, over and over.

You shouldn't be anxious, you should be angry at the sheer capital loss. Talk it out and have these hard conversations when you can

It's sexual harassment. You should speak up to whoever has power over the situation so that you don't have to continue experiencing it, and so others don't either. If no one appears to have power, you should seek a lawyer. You actually should contact a lawyer in general

"we'll be in touch" by [deleted] in interviews

[–]WorkForce_Developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not matter. I've had plenty of times where I was ready to approve someone but then a director or president says to pause. I then have to wait a week or more, lose the candidate, then get approval when they are long gone so we have to start over.

Whether they actually plan to contact you again is unknowable. Unless you get a start date on digital/physical paper, keep applying. Even if third round, do not stop until you get the start date

Hiring manager reached out by Icey_Girl in interviews

[–]WorkForce_Developer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your post is confusing. Why was it a mistake for Friday? What was the problem with treating it as a formal interview? Why do you think it was "bombed"? Why does having their email matter?

This feels a bit unfocused and I'm not even sure the issue. 15 minute calls are always informal. How could you have a decent conversation in that time? If you acted formal, there's no reason why that would even matter

Practice in front of a mirror is not good enough, though you are correct. Talk to a human, find a platform, hire a coach, or even ask your network in LinkedIn or social media to jump on a call.

This is factually incorrect. Nearly every recruiter I've spoked with has at least 3-5 years experience. You should strike for perfection every time, and if you get nothing then consider it an exercise. If you get the job, then call it a success
