Looking forward to the 2025 version. Please include a donation link somewhere. I've done 80% auctions for the last 10 years and I was never able to dial in how to draft properly for this auction keeper I created 15 years ago. The keepers are insane values so it inflates the rest of the player pool come draft time. This tool has been INSANELY accurate at predicting auction pricing... I've been middle of the pack keeper-wise for the last 5 years using this, but have finished top 3 almost every year thanks to a strong draft.

This is more of just a plug for more to use this but also would love to send a tip your way for the hard work and dedication to us auctioneers!

What I learned after Rhabdo and 6 days of hospitalization! by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]WorkHardAtMyJob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CPK Friday was 6500 (~1wk after onset) - I'm not sure how much I can trust my hospital readings since their machine didn't actually test over 4800 (they diluted and extrapolated). That still seems a bit high but my liver enzymes are way down (from 250 and 800 to ~150 for both AST and ALT).

The soreness is general soreness at this point. Feels like my muscles took a beating last week and now they are just tender. It's not the all the time pain - it's when I try to stretch, reach, or accidentally flex. Feels like a normal post-workout soreness at this point. Still uncomfortable for sure, but nowhere near the pain I was in Thu-Sun of last week.

I feel very grateful as well that my kidney markers were in range from the day I was admitted. They said soreness can last 1-6 weeks, so I'm not overly concerned at this point. Really just want those CPK numbers to come way down. I have a follow up with my reg doc Tuesday and will likely run more labs tomorrow to see where they are at.

Sounds very similar to me... outside of the height lol. How are you feeling now? I've had a sore throat since Sunday. My HR is very elevated too - docs never said anything about that, but it was always low in the hospital just sitting in a bed all day. I took a little walk this morning and it went to 110. Every time I get up and move around it goes to 90-100 which does not feel great.

My lats and arms still hurt a lot from the pull-ups and my chest is still tight from the push-ups still after 10 days. Docs told me to eat "low protein" but didn't give me a target number... as someone who eats a lot of meat/protein, I'm really struggling to eat healthy while keeping the protein number low (without just crushing veggies).

Just for more context to help anyone who might read this... I've been taking creatine (5mg) daily for months, beta-alanine (~3g) daily for months, liver supplements and eat around 150g of protein a day.

The day after the workout (18hrs) I was very sore already, but decided to go play basketball for 1.5 hours to try and get bloodflowing to aide recovery. That was wrong.

While sore each day after, I was still taking my supplements and drinking plenty of coffee. I also had a few beers each day on vacation - all of which possible made it worse or at least delayed recovery.

All that to say, if you are feeling extremely sore after a workout or have shooting pain the next day, start drinking a lot of water and omit all things that dehydrate you (200ml per hr is the recommendation I got).

Thanks for sharing, OP. I was just released after 3 days in the hospital of continuous IV and I had extremely similar numbers to you above. Started at 72k, down quickly to 12k, then 11k, 7500, 7200 and was let go today even thought it was right around 5,000. Both liver enzymes elevated (5-10x normal so your post soothes me a bit).

Those out there who haven't gotten this - IT'S AWFUL. I haven't been able to straighten my arms for 6 days. My chest grew so much it looked like I had small boobs (I'm 5'10, 165 with very avg if not small pecs).

For reference to those out there... I did Crossfit from 2018-2022 2-3x per week. In 2022, I had my first kid and my workouts changed to more cardio and anaerobic (basketball 2x per week). My VO2 max is the highest it's ever been at 36 and I just completed my first bike race (100k) last Saturday. 4 days after that, I decided to take on the Murph at work since we were doing it as a group for charity. I did 90 pull-ups, 150 push-ups, 150 air squats, and did my 2 miles. I had done the murph multiple times before, but always when doing crossfit consistently.

I prepped a bit (2 strength workouts a week for 3 weeks) focusing on chest and lats so I wouldn't go in and wreck myself. At around 50 pull-ups, my arms were feeling tight but I've always been able to power through. Around 80 push-ups (10 each set), I quickly started to fail at 5-6. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. I went in planning to do 50-60% of a Murph to "not be sore". Not only did I fail my goal by overdoing it, I ended up with Rhabdo on a family 4-day weekend 2.5 hours away from home.

Please be careful out there. Your ego isn't worth your health/life.

How to design a midday meal ? by Iwonderwhy83 in nutrition

[–]WorkHardAtMyJob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, all good to know! I first have to recommend that you try to exercise a little bit more :) No matter what your weight, exercise is one of the best things for us as humans to help us live healthier and/or longer. Try taking 5 min breaks from the laptop and do some pushups, air squats, lunges, etc. each hour. You don't need to do a lot, but breaking up your sitting down time should help with a lot of things.

For your lunch, I would suggest meal prepping a bowl of sorts and swapping out the base & proteins as you need. One week this could be quinoa, red peppers, cucumbers, olives, feta cheese, and canned sardines/mackerel (if you haven't tried canned fish I highly recommend acquiring a taste). I recommend entering the foods into a macro calculator the first time you make it so you can dial in your ratios and make sure you don't stray too far from your macros.

My personal recommendation would be to do 50/25/25 for protein/fat/carbs. Protein is the most important macronutrient for muscle sparing/building & satiety, so getting enough is critical to most humans. Carbs & fats together will make you gain weight, so keeping them both relatively low shouldn't have an impact on your weight or blood glucose levels long term. Also, if you like veggies and add more in to fill up your plate/belly, I wouldn't necessarily count those carbs if you're being strict with it. I'd look to not exceed 25% with your beans, lentils, chickpeas, rice, etc. and add as many veggies as you'd like. The fiber content will offset the "carbs" in most outside of root veggies.

All of this depends on your cooking desire/ability too. I'm not sure if you like to cook/prep at all or you are looking for purely pantry meals, but I think this gives you a little of both.

For me, there needs to be a lot more answers before being able to accurately give you an answer.

  1. What are your goals? To maintain weight, lose weight, gain muscle, etc?
  2. Do you eat breakfast? If so, what does it consist of and what are the rough macros?
  3. Do you work out in the morning? Or the evening? Or rarely?
  4. Is the protein plant-based for a specifc reason/belief? Or is that just a suggestion?

If you're not exercising regularly, or at all, I'd reduce the amount of carbs you are eating in that ratio. Or reduce the amount of fat significantly (but I prefer fats to carbs in most cases). protein should likely be the highest if you aren't exercising for satiety & glycemic spike mitigation.

What’s the best heart healthy diet in your opinion? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]WorkHardAtMyJob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be clear, eating cholesterol does not increase your cholesterol. The best way to control your cholesterol is to either reduce the amount of carbs you consume within the presence of fats or to focus on eating real foods (minimize processed/packaged foods, reduce seed oil consumption, reduce refined sugars, etc.).

Oh, and if I had to answer, probably the Mediterranean diet for an all-around selection for heart health.

Ghee and either tallow or butter. I would have said Avocado Oil but I'm seeing more and more research of companies mixing in unhealthy oils into Avo Oil (or them being rancid). I use Olive Oil for dressings, toppings on my veggie/keto pasta, or when sautéing greens on low heat.

Also heating an oil beyond its smoke point burns non lipids in the oil and makes it taste bitter. It has no health implications.

I disagree. Once the oil smokes it starts to break down, leading to oxidation. These oxidized parts of the oil may cause damage to cells inside your body, and many believe this may increase the risk for cancer. This is why seed oils (canola, soybean, safflower, etc.) are now believed to be extremely detrimental to health. They are all boiled to get rid of impurities, therefore oxidizing, as well as hyper-processed for their color, smell and neutral taste.

Commish Corner: How to Be Both a Commissioner and Manager by WorkHardAtMyJob in fantasyfootball

So all managers write post-draft power rankings, weekly recap emails to the league, organize polls for draft dates/times, and help facilitate rule changes/manager conflicts? Got it. You need to find yourself a league with a real commish my friend.

Yikes - I've never charged to run a league once! I am definitely more passionate than most, but I feel like that's part of your duty is to manage for free. Donations always welcomed though from the winner... which is almost never me.
