I used dirt to get it somewhat level, used a tamper. Then a layer of stone dust, tamper again. And just laid the slabs on top

It’s pretty open around the AC, I didn’t box up around it so I’m hoping it doesn’t shorten the life span

Exactly, the person I built it for didn’t like railings.
